Background:
 
Well....so.... *shameful* hello! :) It's been awhile. Disappeared for a bit with occasionally lurking in the forums from time to time. Yeah...so, I kinda fell of the world for awhile, but I'm back for this challenge. Got myself a new job (still in DC), new kick ass gym with 2 power racks, 2 squat racks, and tons of those pain in the ass hex plates....but a 45lb plate is a 45 lb plate. Had a lot going on in the thing called life since last fall, so I felt stepping back from challenges was the way to focus a bit. Now that we are well into a new year, it's time for me to step it up. I let BigM pass me by and win some Steaks and Cakes (haven't forgot buddy...need to get a hold of Corey and make some arrangements), I spend some time out of the gym and have had to back down my weights a small amount, put on about 10+lbs over the holidays, but it'll come back off, and overall just need to get back into a routine.
 
This challenge is to get me back into it, slow and steady....nothing earth shattering here.
 
Without further ado,

Fitness Goals:

Deadlift, 500lb 1RM - STR +3
 - BigM, you got ahead and won, but I'm not at all gonna let that stop me from my 500lb goal. I've had to drop some weights on my return, but not by much. I haven't tested a 1RM since the fall, but would guess it is around 465-475, so I need to add 25-35lbs on to it. It's a reach, but I'm feeling confident.

Pull-ups, 8-9 Reps - STR +2 STA +1
 - Like everything when you fall out of a routine...when you return, you tend to start lower. I was previously aiming for 10+ pull-ups in previous challenges last year....this time around, I'm just aiming for what my max was back then.

Gym Time: 2-3/week - STR +1, STA +1, DEX +1
 - Keeping it simple. New job, new gym, new routine. This one should be a cake walk.

Diet Goals:

Drop 10lbs - CON +3
 - Gained over the past few months, gonna lose it over the next 6 weeks.

Life Goal:

Pay off credit line - WIS +3
 - This one will require certain things to fall in place....namely sequestration and how my income is changed. Either way....there is a plan. If this is paid in full by the end of this challenge, then my original plan was successful, but if my income suffers a hit of any kind, this goal will have to be modified, fitting of the income change.

Yeah what Seth said. only 495 for me so S&C comp is still on. I don't plan to try again for a bit (haha I say that now but I love DLing so I may go try it). Although i don't know how much those bands weighed that I used to hold the plates on. So it may be well be like 497.5lbs :D

 

But anyways. Glad you're back buddy!

And I don't think BigM has actually proven that he hit 500 yet. Just the 495. The bars at his gym may not hold 500+

And, good point....didn't know if we were gonna give it to him or not due to his gym's lack of 500lb bar holding abilities....but I'm all about seeing him strap more weights on with bands!

I may hit it this challenge as well. If I can add 40 lb onto my working weight (not likley) calculators say I should hit 503 for 1RM.

I'm close(ish) to you now, so if we can convince BigM to fly up for the Spring Strength Showdown, we can actually cook him his steaks at my place.

Sometime later this week, I should be able to see if I can get my working set back up to where it was, but I have to have chalk for 5 reps of anything over 400, and I'm not sure about this gym just yet. This week I'll be "testing" out the gym. And I agree....let's get him to fly up, I'll hop in my car and we can have steaks at your place....count me in!

Earlier Today:

Knowing I'm starting a new challenge and haven't had fast food in a very long time, I decided to indulge in some fast food burgers and fries today. Not exactly how I should have started this challenge for my weight loss goal, but wanted to go ahead and get it out of my system.

 

Today's Plan:

So, I've been trying out Wendler's 5/3/1 (Boring but BIG) for the past 1-2 weeks slowing creeping my weights back up. Today is squat day. Time to test out the new gym.

 

Squats:

185x5

215x5

Later Tonight:

1+ hours of volleyball

 

Goal Tracking:

I'm gonna try and do some proper goal tracking this time around. It'll give me an easier time when I go to add things up at the end. Let's hope this sticks.

 

Deadlift - +0 = 0

 - Other than core and leg strengthening, no direct DL progress.

Pull-ups - +0 = 0

 - I would do pullups tonight if I weren't playing volleyball, but since I'm just getting back started with everything, gonna take it easy.

Gym Time - +1 = 1

 - Well, I'm going to the gym, and this is week 1

Weight Loss - +2, -1 = 1

 - Hitting the gym for a good solid workout, +1. An hour or more of volleyball, +1. Eating poorly for the day, -1.

Anyway welcome back. I haven't really been around either. I've been sort of half-assedly participating in challenges, but I haven't had any time to be on the forums...all my free time has gone to Skyrim...

 

Anyway maybe we can keep each other motivated this challenge!

I'm pretty sure with no training from here on out and the use of your belt I could hit 500. I am pretty sure belts are magical.

We're doing them every 4 months now to make the spacing even for the 3, so it will be the first 2 weeks of May for this one. You guys pick the weekend you want in there that's best for you and wifey and I will plan on it.

Love the +/- system!  One of my buddies scores his golf that way.  Feel good about the hole? -1.  Feel bad about the hole? +1.  Meh? 0.  It can be nice because a snowman is just +1, and doesn't ruin your round.  A lot less stressful that way. :)

 

Also, one of these days I'm going to have to dip into the miles stash and come out for one of these showdowns - that sounds like a blast.

I appreciate your concern for my mysteriousness. The snow's been fun. I got out in it a few times and built some mini-igloos with the nieces and nephews. Other than that, I haven't done anything fun like it sounds like your brother did, though! Fail?

Yeah, I figured it's be a good way to track things in easily understandable and measurable increments. In my wrap-ups, I typically do the -20%, +30%, etc to get my scores, so this will play into it nicely.

 

And YES! More people for the showdowns!

If you are easily addicted to things, but you have stuff to do, I do not recommend Skyrim. However, the graphics are pretty good..some of the vistas are stunning. And lots of quests to do and skills to learn and shit...it's good times.
