Just made the best shake!!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok.. so I was just wanting something.. umm... something, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

So I thought.. a shake!! Pulled out my blender and started throwing stuff in it.

When I tasted this shake it was like my brain and body were like, "THANK YOU!! This is exactly what we wanted!!!

So here is 1 serving:

1 cup blueberries

2 tbsp baking cocoa (unsweetened powder stuff)

1 cup ice cubes

1 tbsp honey

1/2 cup milk (I used organic whole milk, but you could probably use almond or coconut)

Drink!

It is not mighty mighty sweet, but I think the cocoa really adds to the fullness of flavor (which removes the need for sooo much sweet).

nom nom

that sounds tasty!!!

I've been really upping my smoothie intake- partly because I gave up sugar and the fruit/honey go a long way.  I hate use ice cubes (I used to only use ice cream and yogurt!) but it's going to be ice cubes now for sure....

thanks for sharing.  :)

Bags of frozen fruit/berries are a better alternative to ice cream and ice cubes. Make sure there isnt any added sugar.

Today I added a frozen banana to my frozen fruit, almond milk, protein powder, ground flax seeds & almonds and frozen spinach. It made it much creamier and sweeter!

LOL that was in ADDITION to my frozen fruit ;)  I've given up both yogurt and ice cream- so it's back to ice cubes.

I really detest banana in my smoothies- it makes it gel like- the texture is awful.  BUT I had some banana's past the point I like to eat them- so I tossed them in the freezer- I use them to thicken my smoothies without the gel factor.

Might have to try that. Never would have thought of Cocoa powder.

I personally love adding a bit of banana to smoothies if I want to up the sweetness a bit, but only frozen. I freeze all my fruit for smoothies to keep from having to add ice. One of my go to is.

do you do canned mango?  I have two cans of it and it came out so fiber-y it was disgusting- it was like someone blended half a carpet in my smoothie- I threw it out.

Never done canned, only fresh. I slice them up when they are just ripe, but not too ripe, without the skin. I then freeze the pieces. I have had the fiber-y feeling too, but not when I freeze them. Since mangoes are fiber-y, I think freezing them helps the fibers blend better.

mine had actual- like hair fibers almost- it was literally like eating carpet. It was SO disgusting.

I'll have to try that when I see the mangos in season.

My frozen fruit mix has mangos in it. Made by Dole. I get it at Wallmart and Sam's Club.

I have some canned Pumpkin but im scared to try it in a smoothie. Its ok in greek yogurt, disgusting in oatmeal.

I don't care for pumpkin- I think they have a version of that on that greenthickies website or something like that LOL But I would be afraid to try it too!!!

I don't shop at wal-mart very much- I'll check it out next time I'm there. when I'm at the gym and I have to eat something to get me through the nexet X hours- I'll induldge and get a smoothie (god it's hard to get a good smoothie w/o crap in it) anyway- they have mango's and I like them.

Oh. wait. I totally lied.

Those are peaches.  Regardless- I'll still check wallyworld out- the mixed fruit at Shop Rite is usually Strawberries- blue berries and something else.  I always mix and get blue berries- black berries and rasberries- I have mixed feelings about frozen strawberries- in that I don't like strawberry flavored ANYTHING.

I just want my strawberries... you know- FRESH!   ;)

So this experiment went pretty well:

1/4 cup (about 10?) hazelnuts

1 cup milk

1 tsp cocoa (maybe could have used a bit more, but I'm not a big chocolate fan)

1 banana

2 ice cubes (frozen banana may have eliminated the need for this)

It was pretty tasty.

Stop and Shop has a bag of frozen mixed veggies that contains, mango, peaches, strawberries, and pineapple... that combined with a scoop of chocolate/vanilla protein powder and some water is amazing!  Their other mixed berried bag has blackberries and raspberries but you end up with so many seeds in your smoothie if you don't have one of those $500 blenders that it just isn't fun to drink.

If I want to thicken it up so that I can eat it with a spoon, then I throw in some chopped up frozen bananas... and now I want a smoothie...

I also buy both of those bags of fruit. I enjoy the mango, peach, pineapple, strawberry blend more. Ive also found that adding a small handful of almond slices adds a nice texture.

It is good!  I usually do frozen raspberries, chocolate protein powder, cocoa baking powder, spinach, plain greek yogurt, and if i need to thin it out a bit i just use some water.

though i went through an experimental phase using dates, prunes, or figs for added sweetness.

I have a bag of frozen mango chunks in my freezer right now. The brand is Simple Truth Organic. I don't remember if it is from Publix or Kroger but it's worth looking into.
