I found nerd fitness last week after starting a body weight strength training plan at home.  After reading through some of the articles and resources here I found the forums and the stuff about the real-life RPG.  I'm a software engineer for an ISP/Hosting/Cloud/CDN company.  I'm definitely a geek with extremely varied interests, mostly about nerdy things.  I'm also somewhat outdoorsy, though not as much as when I was younger.  I'm married with a super awesome wife and an even more super awesome 19 month old baby girl.

 

I've been doing low-carb(basically atkins, but I started on this after reading some of Gary Taubes stuff) on and off for about a year and lost about 15 lbs.  I wasn't taking it very seriously, but I also didn't go crazy with carbs afterwards so I didn't pack the weight back on.  My loss just kind of plateaued / I was eating about a maintenance level of carbs.  I haven't really been involved in a exercise program since I stopped doing Krav Maga like 2 years ago.

 

 

 

Stats:

Age: 30

Height: 6' 3" 

Weight: 214 lbs

Body Fat %(using the Accu-Measure Caliper): 21%


 

Goals:

 

Activate Hard(er) Mode(+1 STA, +.5 CON):

Park further away and take the stairs.  At least 4 days a week park in the upper levels of the parking garage (6-8) and take the stairs instead of the elevator in the garage.  Take stairs up to office(14th floor) at least once per week.

 

Eat Real Food(+1 CON):

Eat paleo(+dairy) at least 20 meals per week, and drink no more than 3 diet sodas per week.

 

Work Out(+1 STR, +1 DEX):

Complete and log a workout 3 times per week.  Work on progressing each week to more reps/sets/circuits.

 

Knock Out the Fat! (+.5 CHA):

Decrease Body fat percentage by at least .5%, this goal should really be the result of the previous goals being taken seriously, so maybe it's not really a SMART goal, maybe a SMR goal instead?

 

 

Also I need to go and determine my base attributes for the RPG aspects, I'm thinking Ogre-Mage, would Half-Ogre-Mage be too ridiculous.  :)

First off, welcome to the Assassins!  As a half-Ogre-Mage, you'll fit right in. :)

 

Your goals all seem totally doable and really well thought out.

 

Normally, when you complete a six week challenge you receive 15 attribute points and a level.  As you are jumping in with about 2 weeks to go, you've got 5 attribute points to award yourself (no level jump up, though!) and it looks like you're only using 4.5.  You've got another 1/2 point there if you care to use it. :)

I updated my post to equal up to 5 total now.  I wasn't really sure how the late comer stats and level stuff would work(or if they worked at all) that was why I kept it low.

4 Pullups (1 2nd set)

20 Squats

20 Walking Lunges

1 Chin-ups (3 negatives on 2nd set)

5 Push-Ups (Close grip)(0 2nd set, I may have pulled/tweaked something in right pec)

 

 

Other updates:

Diet Soda consumption: 1 (actually tasted weird, probably won't have another)

Paelo: So far so good

Stairs: Monday parked on 6, tuesday worked from home.

BF%: If I used the caliper properly it says I'm now down to 19.6%,( it may not have quite been 21% since the chart for the caliper goes by 2 mm at a time, and going from 21% to 19.6% is between 4 mm (20-21) vs (18-19) and I went from 20 to 19, so It's almost certainly down .5 percentage points but not necessarily 1.4 points.

Amazing workout. I like the idea of iincorporating fitness into your everyday life,climbing 14 stories is a great workout in itself.

Worked From Home on Friday so no stairs.

Saturday night we went for Korean Tacos, so that makes my 1 meal out of the week eating bread :)

Amazing workout. I like the idea of iincorporating fitness into your everyday life,climbing 14 stories is a great workout in itself.

Thanks! I've done it before but I think it's a little too dusty in there which makes me wheeze for an hour or so afterwards(or maybe workout induced asthma?) I'm going to try to do it a lot more often so maybe I'll get used to it.
