Adventurers' HQ (don't forget to put your name in your challenge title)

Recommended Posts

Welcome aspiring heroes of the rebellion!

You've chosen the best of all guilds, the home of those bravely starting out on their quests. But you don't have to walk the path alone!

Before you go any further, please make sure you read this article on the changes that have taken place from this challenge going forward.  It is very important that you read it.  We are available to answer any questions you have, so please ask by either popping one of us a DM or by posting the question in the general chat thread.

If you're a newbie to NF challenges, we recommend that you sign up in the First Time challenge sub forum, in order to learn the ropes this challenge and the mini's and info is geared more to your level.

To some it up:

  1. Sign up for the challenge on the sign up sheet
  2. Pick a mission. Your mission could be something that will take as long as you need (it doesn't have to only be one challenge focussed).
  3. Pick 2 - 3 SMART quests that will help you achieve the mission you've selected.  These are only 6 week specific and need to be a combo of fitness/diet goals.
  4. Choose a life quest if you'd like to do one.
  5. If this is your 4th+ challenge you may pick an additional side quest, but these should not detract from your main quests.
  6. Create a thread, with your name in the title, and post your goals in there. You can put a link to your challenge thread in your signature.
  7. You don't have to but it would be great to allocate attributes points to your goals, so that you're rewarded at the end of 6 weeks.
  8. Pop in at least 3 times a week and post on your thread.  We want to know how you're doing, for inspiration, to/for support and sometimes to offer /ask advice.
  9. Keep an eye out for the mini challenges posted each week and try to participate in at least one of them (there will be a mix of fitness/nutrition/life so don't feel like you can't participate)
  10. At the end of the challenge post a final summary in your post and the report in thread and level up.
  11. Finally, give any of your Guild Leaders a shout if you need anything, whether it's support, advice, a pep talk or to offer a suggestion.  We're here to help you succeed! :)

** If you'd like examples on how to set up your threads, why not click on any of the guildleaders' names below to view their threads**

If you're new to NF (or the challenges), welcome.  Here are a few more links that might assist you in making goals, choosing your race/class, allocating attributes to yourself and your goals (you don't have to do this, but we're nerds so it's a little fun).

These are small groups of 6 or 7 Rebels who share the same goals, the same values or are just looking for a "band" who encourage one another. You can find out what the groups are about here and you can sign up for those groups here once you've decided on a group.  You should also be able to find a mentor on this sign up sheet. See also the list of Adventurer-relevant support groups for this challenge.

Mini Challenges:

Mini challenges are great fun to participate in and the Guild Leaders try and centre these around the majority of challenge goals in the thread.  They generally run from the Tuesday (roughly) until 23.59 on the Sunday and you can score extra attribute points. They're not compulsory but we encourage you to try at least one.

Your Guild Leaders

If you get into difficulties, or have suggestions on how to make our awesome guild even better, you can chat with one of your friendly guild leaders. So without further ado, and in no particular order, let us introduce you to:

Between July 2009 and July 2012, I lost 157lbs. I have kept that weight (+/- 10lbs) off since then, though I gained around 20lbs back while eating above maintenance while improving my deadlift, overhead, and bench press last year. I do best when I have a goal to work towards, so I've had past challenge goals like 300 miles on my bike, 60 workouts in ~10 weeks, etc. I've set up training plans for my first 5k (back in 2010), Warrior Dash (Fall of 2011), and a sub-30 minute 5k (completed on a treadmill). With the 2/25 challenge, I've decided to do the Insanity 60-day workout, so that will reach into the next challenge.

I like being outside - hiking, trail running, and biking are my favorite ways to burn calories.

I have a lot of graphic novels, I play games on my PC (as opposed to a console system - you can find me on Steam under 67alecto). At one point I collected medieval and fantasy weapons, which means I know have a closet and boxes full of axes, polearms, swords, etc. I'm very much into DIY stuff, and I try to avoid paying people to do things I should be able to do myself. I am a decent photographer, a voracious reader, and pick up new activities and skills very quickly.

My current obsession is my Jeep Wrangler - I've had it for 2 years now, and I belong to a very active jeep club. I'm a firm believer of the idea that if you want to meet new and interesting people, you need to do new and interesting things. I originally joined them to get wrenching help, and I've gone to a lot of meet and greets, participated in volunteer activities, and even went camping for the first time (people are amazed that I was a boy scout for several years and we never went camping).

I'm a 30 year old female South African with a passion for lifting. I am excited about exercising and it feels effortless and FUN - I honestly am not sure that i would have said that this time last year - it's just getting out of bed in the morning that takes a little effort.

I'm an overqualified book nerd and gadget girl who loves comics - superheroes, TinTin, Charlie Brown, Asterix & Obelix, etc; sci-fi and fantasy books and movies; lego; zombies and other supernatural beings and finally classical history and mythology (love Egyptian and Asian mythology too).

I'm Athena, an at-home nerdy mother of two young kids. I live in Australia, home of many interestingly deadly animals. I'm in the Warriors, but am a guild leader for the Adventurers because that's where I started out, and I'd love to help people along in their weight loss and get fit journeys.

I joined NF in May '12, when I got sick of listening to my own excuses about what I "couldn't" do. Progress was slow and steady, as I dieted strictly, and did the Beginner Bodyweight Workout 2-3 times a week. As I leaned out and got fitter, I started lifting weights; I wanted to be strong, not just "toned". I reached my goal weight in December '12, having lost 18kgs (40lbs). You can read an NF article about my weight loss journey, if you want to hear more (or see some somewhat embarrassing photos). I love powerlifting (and chin-ups), and I've gone in two powerlifting competitions; one women's-only competition (squat, bench press and deadlift - didn't win a prize), and one deadlift comp (2nd place trophy for women). :)  I lift weights usually three times a week, and am trying to tweak my diet just right to build muscle without regaining fat, which I'm finding a difficult balancing act.

My nerdy side focuses on roleplaying. I play in a superhero RPG every Sunday, and occasionally playtest 5th ed D&D modules (it looks very promising!). I love superhero cartoons and movies, I read comics (Fables is a current fave), and I read a heck of a lot of fantasy books and stories, and some classics. I'm a qualified librarian, and I love researching stuff for people.

Hello! I'm chammy! I first joined Nerd Fitness in October 2011 and have been having and on-again/off-again love affair ever since. Within the first few months of joining I managed to lose a total of 30 pounds! Sadly, life and work were my enemies in 2012, and I lost that battle, gaining about 20 pounds back. :(

Fortunately, with the help of friends and family, I was able to recently quit said job that was a major force of stress in my life, and have returned to school as a full time student! This has vastly changed my quality of life, and while I've caused a critical hit to our household income, I haven't been happier in a long time. For the record, I will be studying Photography and Graphic Design - though I am currently taking core-curriculum classes.

I'm very much looking forward to re-booting my body-transformation with the Adventurers, and I'm super stoked to be working with everyone!

Hi. I'm Hiraedd, a 32 year old determined survivor of many troubles. I started my fitness journey almost 11 months ago at 363 pounds, and am now sliding in at just under 305.

I used to hate exercise because I could never do it and I always felt like a failure. When I joined NF I needed some goals quickly, and snagged the idea of a pushup goal. Turns out I LOVE them! Planks are now a close second (weird, right?), and I enjoy the capeable feeling it gives me having control and power over my own body. Bodyweight exercises FTW, which is why I'm now an Assassin.

I’m an information nerd, mostly. I am constantly driven to learn, understand, and absorb new material. I read incessantly, mostly non-fiction, although when I do read ficition it is sci-fi/fantasy.I am a big fan of LOTR, Narnia, and recently the Ranger's Apprentice series which I have been reading to my daughter. I read just about any information I can get my hands on. I don’t take much time for other media, although I have some favourite shows like Firefly, Star Trek: Next Generation & DS9, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars (originals only), Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog, and The Big Bang Theory (which I follow occasionally).

Kim Taura

My name is Kim and I'm the mother to Sorcha, a red eared slider. You may know him as Accountability Turtle. I'm 30 and live near Cleveland, OH, USA. I have bounced between fat and athletic my whole life and fat has been the winner. I love hiking and walking outside. I used to study Isshinryu karate and have begun to study again- slowly. It was the beginning of my competitive nature. . I'm not big into "Lets do exercises A, B, and C" work outs, but I like doing activities that work me out or to "work out" as part of the activity.

I love learning for the sake of learning and educational Youtube channels can make me lose hours in a day. I read sci/fi fantasy, love LOTR, and am a Trekkie (TNG!). I do play MMORPGs occasionally with my husband, Keba. He's a much bigger gamer than I am. I love memes, lolcats, and baby animals.

How to contact your guild leaders

Perhaps you're worried about inappropriate behaviour on the forum, something breaching the NF Code of Honour, or an irritating spammer. As a reminder, "Mocking, harassing, or belittling another forum member or another forum member's form of training, diet, or lifestyle is not allowed. Suggestions, advice, tips are more than welcome - there's a difference."

If you see one of our posts, you can hover your mouse over a username, and then when the pop up box appears, select "Send Message". Or, click on our avatars (little pictures) to go to our profile page, then select "Send me a message". To search for a mod (or any other member, for that matter) by username, you can go to the search box at the top right of the screen, and click the little grey button (it probably says "Forums"), and change it to "Members". Then put in someone's username (or as much as you remember), and away you go!

If you have a technical fault/issue with the forums, please instead visit the Feeback/Help section, and see if your issue has been reported and/or addressed. If it hasn't, you might like to lodge a ticket.
