Substix' Round III: FIGHT!

No. I had to wait on the squatrack as well as fell over squatting.

Friday workout was great though

bahaha I have no idea how I missed that LOL.

I think it's awesome that you are changing up your paleo percentage to work better with your life.  There is no point striving for a goal that is unrealistic for the life you live.

WTG on the run!  It feels so good to finish strong, doesn't it?!

Challenge Update #3

So I usually update fridays but that didn't quite work out. Had a lot of things to take care of over the weekend. Lots of things to do, people to meet, and that stuff. Lot's of alcohol to drink aswell. I've decided to down my paleo percentage for weekly meals down to about 90-95%.

IAMSTRONG!

Deadlifts going strong. I'm super excited for monday where I'll go for 80kg for the first time. Squats have gotten a lot better, I think in the meantime I've managed to go up to 40kg as well as drastically improve my form. thanks to starting strength! :)

IAMBALANCED!

I had to take it down a notch here. Instead of doing freestandings I went for wall handstands with trying to stand freely at the end. I think the 10 second thing is gonna work out by the end.

IMALEAFONTHEWIND!

Today I went running for 20 minutes without stopping. Haven't done that since I was 12. Felt really good, especially when the time was up and I still had some more laps in me. Sadly I couldnt measure the distance but based on approximation it shouldbe about 3-3.5km.

IAMSMART!

Doing 2 hours of studying maths daily at the moment! Going really awesome :)

I was going to say the I AM STRONG goal sounds like some awesome progress. But, then I re-thought it a bit and realized this whole post is full of awesome! Sounds like it was a great week 1!

Good luck on the 80 kg DL!

Well done!!

You seem like you've got a really good hang of it! Brilliant!

Keep going and good luck for tomorrow's 80kg!!

Thanks a lot! I totally destroyed that 80k :)

Sadly the percentage went down. I had to adjust it even further because I am crazy busy at the moment. When there's not enough time to prepare a decent meal you just know the load you've taken is not doable.

I wish I had pushed more for further mileage to be honest. When I finish with energy left there's always that bitter sweet 'I could have done better'

I was going to say the I AM STRONG goal sounds like some awesome progress. But, then I re-thought it a bit and realized this whole post is full of awesome! Sounds like it was a great week 1!

Good luck on the 80 kg DL!

Yeah it was! Thanks a lot for your encouraging words :)

I am still doing quite well, not as good as I'd like, but gotta make due with what I've got.

80kg went awesome! I'm already looking forward to 85 next monday :)

definitely full of awesome! :) good luck with the DL!!

Thank you!

2 hours of studying math every day?! I'd go crazy! I also just realized that you're logging weights in kg, and am even more impressed than I was before

I love me some maths! Took a while to get my head wrapped around that, but I realized that 2 hours might be to little. So I upped the amount of time to 3 hours :) More maths more fun, am I right? :D

Alright so I missed an update on monday. That is mostly because my schedule became a bit overloaded this week, but that's gonna get resolved next week. I should be able to go back to standard updates.

In the meantime: I am doing okay. Could be better, gonna be better! I'll be back for a bit more of a real update soon!

NO! No, you're not! ...says the History/Culture Studies student

No, as a CS/Physics person I have to say you're wrong! I love me some maths :)

Quick inbetween update again:

Deadlifts are progressing good, although I'm thinking about lowering my low weigth/high reps day repetitions. 12 Deadlifts per set is a lot.

Doing good with the handstands. So far I've been doing them at the end of my routine but I sense some mixing up in the future. Handstands and pullups at the end are fine for my deadlift and squat but the number of pullups I've been doing is stagnating a bit. I'll play around with this next week. Oh yeah, I managed a 9 second handstand (freestanding that is) today, but it's more of a statistical outlier than anything. Gotta do a bit better here in the next couple of weeks.

Running is progressing awesome. I've adapted a slightly increased pace on my last inclined for every workout (I run laps around a park which has a slight slope on the two longer sides. Last lap, I try to go about 80-85% of my capable maximum effort to get the sweat and exhaustion going before taking an easy jogging pace home. I LOVE running ever since I managed to learn how to correctly strike my feet.

Studying maths has been working pretty well so far. I'm doing 2 hours a day, which will increase once I get nearer to my exams. I've missed one study session since I began so far, but I'll make up for it on the weekend. Studying in the sun is doubly awesome! :)

So far for my goals. I hope my schedule clears up a little bit this next week, since a slightly bigger part of my weekly commitments will drop off now. Expect me to check in on your thread on the weekend, I hope to read a lot of awesome! On the other hand my eating habits and the daily yoga have suffered a little bit. I'm still about 80/20 on the paleo, but I'd like to get closer to 100 again. I've stopped doing the daily stretches after my weightlifting sessions which is bad, and will be remedied as soon as possible.

Thanks for reading this, you're a wonderful person and I hope you have a great day! :)

And yes, 12 reps/set is a lot! If you cut it down to around 5, you'll work on power rather than endurance so you'll be able to up the weight more often. How many sets do you actually complete?

No, I was thinking more about going down to 3/8/5 from 5/12/8 I'm at now. Only on deadlifts of course. But I think I'll just keep doing the 12, endurance is really important aswell.

Maths + Sun = Happy Nerds! I even got a bit tan. Just a little bit.

Yay for maths! It's just something about an arbitrary set of rules that is so intertwined in itself that intrigues me. As well as the certainty that there is a direct proportionality between time invested and maths learned.

Got even better this week, 100kg Is definately in reach. Combined with the Virtual Weigthlifting Meet I migth go even higher.

I'm with the rest on "bleh to the maths"... but I sure am glad there's some folks that can do them. :) good for you!

I have to disagree, math is elegant, beautiful and concise. It is truly man's biggest accomplishment. After I put in a couple hundred hours I really managed to appreciate (most of) it! :)

We can be Mathbuddies :) Sadly I'm nowhere near good enough to tutor anything but school maths. Which really is more calculation than actual math. But it would be awesome to have a stable income through that.

Alright! So I am offically 'back' although I haven't really 'gone anywhere' in a stricter sense. Last week I was crazy busy with priority 1 obligations. I manage to get all my scheduled workouts in, but my eating habits have suffered a bit. Now that I've got a little more time on my hands, I'm deifnately going back to eating all healthy all the time. 100% Paleo here I come. I also had a minor slip involving a pack of cigarettes and some bottles of wine. Suffice to say that my quit smoking timer has been reset.

As far as my goals go, I upped my Deadlift by another 5kg this week. Still perfectly on target for 100x5 on 20th of may. 85k went quite easily for 5 times. Really looking forward to next monday. Form still seems good fro ma first person prespective! :)

Handstands are currently at about 5-10 secounds. Freestanding that is. I only hit 10s once so far and it seems to be more a statistical outlier, but if I manage to hit it again, I'm definately counting it as completed goal

Running is going AWESOME! :) I've moved from walking/running intervalls to straigth up running 22-30 minutes. Getting closer towards running 5k every week.

Math is still fun! I'm currently doing 2hours 5 out of 7 days of the week. Currently trying to up it to 3h 7/7.

Why don't you take it to 10 so you end up with 5/10/8? Would be a nice way to keep some endurance without it being too much :)

Cool for the tan! Lucky you!!

I didn't find your thread when I went looking for it during week 1 :( Thanks for stopping by though! I hope to accomplish all my goals rather easily this challenge :)

Maths and a tan? Awesome! By the way, math will always you treat you right!

Yes and definately YES to that! I might even be able to get a visible tan this summer if I can keep this up!

I'm so glad to finally study some solid math again. It's simple and follows a clear set of rules. When I read my script the world feels right and in order. It's one of the best feelings in the world. (If you haven't gatherer it from the available information yet, I'm a HUUUGE Math nerd :D)

Today I went to the gym to test out my 2RMs on the big3 for my upcoming participation in the SSS meet. And Holy Moly did I ever do well. I completely smashed my established PRs (from monday) by 35kg overall. 15kg improvement on Deadlifts aswell as Squats, and an increase of 5kg on the Bench. Bench would've been an even 10k, but I didn't hit my last try on 70kg. Had to roll out under the bar once more, but nothing hurt other than my pride.

IAMSTRONG

So I deadlifted 100kg today for the first time. As part of aforementioned 2RM tests. And I completely hit it, with great form aswell. I was soo proud of myself. There were 4 big plates on the bar and I easily lifted it twice.

IAMBALANCED

Handstands are not really progressing at the moment. I'm thinking about shifting my order of exercises for one or two days a week to focus on handstands. Or maybe implement some form of offday handstand practice.

IAMALEAFONTHEWIND

My current record on running without stopping or slowing down to a walk is 25 minutes, but if I really pushed myself I probably could go 30minutes, which at 6m/km would equal 5km. I'll stick to my plan though and have an intermission step of 28 minutes of running next week. All in all I'm doing well here aswell, running is awesome!

WhateverInamedmyMathgoal

I've increased studying time from 2x50 to 2x55 this week. Slow increase I know, but slow and steady wins the race. I'm a bit concerned about this one as I'll probably onle be able to go over the material for one of the three exams. Maybe I can further increase my studying time to get a shot at a second exam aswell.

OHMYGOD I COMPLETELY SMASHED ALL MY PRs TODAY I AM SO HAPPY! :)

I love the sun, I hate Maths. Make me do Maths when it is sunny outside and you might as well kill me

I like beeing in the sun, but I often get bored when I'm alone. That's why it goes so well with maths. Always something to do when you got a mathbook and some paper with you! :)

:D

this is the BEST feeling!!

*over-the-internet-high-five*

Felt amazing. I'm so glad I tried going for 2RMs. Thanks for the fives! :)

Well done on smashing your PRs

Thank you! It was awesome :)

Congrats on your feast of PRs, and look at that 100kg deadlift!!  Quality!!  You must be (rightly) proud of yourself!! :):)

I think I coulda gone higher, but I wanted to stay with linear progression. going over 100 was too risky in this situation! Thanks for your kind words :)

Alright so I may have entered a bet that I could increase my Squat from 60x2 to100kgx5 in 4 weeks. That is one ill begotten wager as it requires me to weekly increase the weigth by 10kg to actually get there. Bets with my brother who just this week benched 100kg 3 times.

end of the week as decent. I had one aweseome day with the food, but I'm hanging in there.

as far as my goals are concerned everything is going well. Handstands still not all that easy, but with reversed order of my exercises it should be easily doable!

I've further increased my math time to 2x70minutes. a day, with a deserved off day today. I'm worried that I won't be able to attend my exams during this running challenge. I might change my grading criteria to measure invesdted time instead of attendance. Still thinking about that.

Hope you had a nice week! Onwards to week 4 :)

Challenge Update #10

Had a great monday workout today! As usual monday easily my favourite day of the week :)
I increased my squat by 10kg in accordance with my running bet. Might be able to actually do it! :)

On the other hand I'm logging slow progress on the bench. 2 Weeks ago I did 60x5 easily, today I only managed 60x2, and that was with bench being the first exercise in my rotation. Might be a form problem or something. I'll consult rip on that when I have time.

DEADLIFTGOAL

Today I did 90x5, which went quite well, had a little trouble with form on the 4th rep, but 5th was clean and awesome again!

Looking good for a strong 100x5 finish in 2 weeks. That is if I manage to time my SSS lifts well enough.

HANDSTANDGOAL

Progress here is slower than I'd like it to be. Still haven't managed to break 7 seconds for a 2nd time (did once, got to ten, definately want to repeat) Hopefully I'll manage to get there again. Was an awesome feeling standing on my hands for that long.

RUNNINGGOAL

I'm now on week 8 of c25k, haven't missed a workout yet. In 20 days I'll be competeing in a 5k obstacle race, and I'm really looking forward to it. So far I haven't been able to do a benchmark of how fast/if at all I can run 5k, and my legs are really eager to try. Might try going for a treadmill run sometime this week, to get some accurate numbers.
