aranona
This is my second challenge. Woohoo! I learned a lot about myself and my habits during the first challenge. I plan to continue eating primal breakfasts most days per week, going to bed by 11pm on weeknights, and will track my food & activities using a spreadsheet. I’m still exploring how fitness fits into my everyday life (hence the adventurer classification), but I’m thrilled to have found healthy activities that I truly enjoy. EDIT: After reflecting on my goals (mini challenge #1 -- thanks Hira!), I've realized that my goals for this challenge are far too ambitious for my life & work schedule right now. Thus, I'm going to eliminate one goal and complete the rest of this challenge with only 3 goals. I've decided to eliminate my snacking goal as that is the goal I'm least passionate about right now. It's definitely something I plan to revisit in the future. Goal #1: Walk to/from the metro stop (1 mile) at least 6 times per weekIt doesn’t add very much time to my commute (only slightly longer than taking the bus) and it’s great exercise. Now that it’s finally warmer, I have no excuse for not walking at least some of the time. Attributes: +3 STA; +1 WIS Grading:A = Walk 6 timesB = Walk 5 timesC = Walk 3-4 timesD = Walk 1-2 timesF = Walk 0 timesGoal #2: Healthy snacks (90% of snacks each week will be primal)Through tracking in the last challenge, I learned that the days where I exceed my RDI generally were the result of eating junky snacks. I don’t generally have problems eating well at meals, but snacks are my downfall. I want to change that by focusing on my snack habits and switching to fruits and veggies. I will track this using my GoogleDocs spreadsheet (to be linked later).Attributes: +3 CON; +1 STAGrading:A = At least 90% of snacks are primalB = At least 80% of snacks are primalC = At least 70% of snacks are primalD = At least 50% of snacks are primalF = Less than 50% of snacks are primalGoal #3: Run 3x per week in preparation for June 8th 5K (using C25K)Running a 5K is on my bucket list. This goal will be a challenge because I haven’t enjoyed running in the past. I’m in much better shape now than I was the last time I started Couch-to-5K, so hopefully it will be a more positive experience.Attributes: +3 DEX; +1 STRGrading:A = Run 3 timesB = Run 2 timesC = Run 1 timeF = Run 0 timesGoal #4: Quilting projectsLearning to quilt is one of my 2013 goals and I’ve made great progress on this goal through joining a guild and taking workshops. Now this issue is that I have a long list of projects for myself and other people (mostly others). I need to spend more time on this new found hobby to improve my skills and get some of the projects finished!Attributes: +2 CHA; +1 WISGrading:A = Complete 3 projectsB = Complete 2 projectsC = Complete 1 projectF = Complete 0 projects**Note: Ultimately I want to do the grading based on project completion of the entire challenge, but I’ll probably set-up a effort-based grading system using time goals each week. Muryanp
Hello there fellow squader!! Pretty neat goals o/ I'm not at all a runner, but i tried out C25K a while ago, and maybe my experience can end up helping you out. First time i couldnt get one workout session to it's end, i felt that i shouldn't advance until i repeated it completly.Luckly for me, i was running w my brother and didn't want to hold him back so i advanced along.I found out that after some rest i would've had actually increased my capacite enough so i could complete the next one, even without the previous workout fully achievd. At the end of it it reached my 5k, wich was a really great feeling.Sadly enough after that i kinda stopped excercising , and stuff, but here i am, enrolled at the 6WC and putting life back on tracks. I think we'll be seen each other in our squad during the next weeks The best of luck for our beginnings tomorrow! aranona
So far goals 1, 3 & 4 are going great. I've already walked to/from the metro stop 4 times this week (soon to be 5 as I'm heading home). DH and I went running yesterday. We skipped week 1 of C25K and did the first session on week 2. It went really smoothly and we actually did a bit of extra running because I wasn't paying close enough attention to the stopwatch. Monday night I spent 1.5 hours quilting and finished hand-piecing a block. (I'll post some pics soon). I also took my measurements and discovered that I've lost 5.2 lbs since the start of the previous challenge. Now about goal 2...I think revamping this goal will be my mini challenge for this week. Ultimately it's where I want to be, but I have too many other things on my plate right to really put my best foot forward toward this goal (in this challenge). Since I don't want to set myself up for failure, I'm thinking of scaling this goal back. I'll update the top of my thread once I finalize a new goal, but at the moment I think my goal will be to have a piece of fruit or crudite as my afternoon snack at work. I tried it last fall and made it through the first 3 weeks, but each workout was definitely a struggle. I felt much better running yesterday, helped by the fact that I've improved my fitness level since then with other activities. Thanks!! aranona
This past week started off with a bang, but petered out quickly when I came down with a nasty cold. Week 1 Grades Walking - B I walked to the metro 5 times this week and really enjoyed each of the walks. I stayed home from work one day last week, so I think walking 5 out of 8 times is great! Running - CI ran once before I came down with my cold. Feeling better now and will get back on track this week. Quilting - AI spent 3 hours quilting this week. Completed another hand-pieced block and got halfway through machine-piecing a top for a baby quilt. Agreed. That was one of the things I learned in the last challenge. Biking to work is a great idea!! ---------- Week 2 GradesWelp, I'm a massive slacker for posting my week 2 grades on Friday of week 3. My schedule got away from me a bit in week 2 and I was not very successful in meeting my running goal. However, I did great in meeting the other two goals. Walking - AI walked to the metro 6 times during the work week and another 2 times on the weekend. It was fantastic! Running - CI only ran once. Not so good. Quilting - AI spent almost 8 hours quilting this week. I made a lot progress finishing the baby quilt top and my mother's day gift (a laptop case). ----------- This week is going pretty well. I've walked 4 times and should be able to get the other two times in today. DH and I ran on Wednesday successfully completing one of the week 4 workouts in C25K. We'll run again tonight. Spent 1.5 hours quilting on Monday and will definitely do more this weekend (I have some deadlines coming up!!). We're also going to the Nat'l Zoo tomorrow. aranona
Thanks Jenni! -----Week 3 GradesStill slacking on the forums. I have way too much going on and am being a crappy accountabilibuddy. I did kick some ass in week 3, however. Walking - AI walked to the metro 6 times. Running - ARan 3 times and successfully completed week 4 of C25K. Woot! Quilting - AI spent 4.5 hours quilting. Still have lots to do and probably not enough time... ----- It's raining today and it's supposed to rain all week. Boo!! I hate rain. Well, actually I hate how it affects my mood.
