Bastet
Hello my fellows adventurers. I'm new around here, may I join? So, I'm a 22 year-old physiotherapy student, 1,57m , 60kg. I plan on losing 6 to 8kg but right now I want to focus on keeping my life on tracks, make healthy habits and get fit. The weight loss probably gonna follow anyway, and as I'm not even overweighted, no need to hurry. I eat paleo for 2 months now, sometimes I eat things I shouldn't but diet is not a major issue, I never really ate badly. And now, my goals for the next 6 weeks (tintintiiiin): 1. do 10 minutes of yoga each morning (+1,5DEX, +1,5CHA)The back of my legs is really not flexible, and I think I could use the stretching and muscular training that is yoga. Plus, it sounds like a great way to start a harsh day of malaxing people (physiotherapist is such a physically hard job).I think I'm gonna pick a short beginner routine on Youtube, learn it saturday or sunday and starting on monday, waking up 10 minutes earlier to perform it. 2. do 15 real push-ups on a row (+3STR, +1,5STA, +1,5CON)I seriously lack strenght on my upper body. This was an issue when I was doing rock climbing and martial arts, and this is an issue now cause of my future job. I currently can do 50 knee push-ups on 5 sets. Let's work towards real ones.I plan on doing 3 bodyweight strenghts training a week, in the style of the Angry Birds workout. I currently do 2. 3. legs flexibility: when i'm laying on my back, be able to elevate my straight leg and do a 90° angle with my body (is it clear?) (+1,5DEX, +1,5CHA)Cause the back of my legs is really not flexible and I wanna be in touch with my pseudo. One stretching session each evening. Adjust after 3 weeks if necessary. 4. starting my f****** memoire (+3WIS)In order to get my degree next year, I have to make a clinical study. It annoys me as fuck but I want it to be done as quick as possible. So for the next 6 weeks I want to find a subject, have a problematic, build a protocol, find a field with patients and have the autorisations if necessary. Basically that the only thing I have to do next is to start collecting my datas. It's totally irrealistic but you know, target the moon and you will fall on the stars or some shit like this. Well, that's all for now, see ya soon! Bastetlvl 2 werecat adventurerSTR 1 | DEX 4,5 | STA 2 | CON 3,5 | WIS 4,5 | CHA 9challenges: #1 #2Dirt Worshiping Backpackers Link to comment

Just 2 things:I'm new to this so maybe i'm missing something, but shouldnt your atributes total amount sum 15 points? Outta curiosity: how many push-ups you can already do in a row?I'm asking this (and it extends to everyone, the question) because i suck at upper body strength and cannot even do 2 in a row, so i was wondering how i mylself could calculate this progression... Bastet
Welcome! I tried to do yoga and it is way harder than it looks. Best of luck with your goals!I have to admit, it looks difficult, but hey, it's a challenge right? Thanks you, and good luck too! awsome goals! and i like that you also swear !!! lets do this! You think I swear easily? Man, you should hear me in my mother langage . Maybe I should work on that... anyway, thank you! We gonna rock this! Greetings u all thereNice plans, indeed. Anyhow, best of luck on your challenge!First, thank you, and welcome if you're new too! Considering the points, what I understood of the challenge's rules (anybody correct me if I'm wrong) is that you start with 15 points you attribute yourself in strenght, stamina etc according your ability at your starting point, before the challenge begin. That's what I did in my signature. And then, when you complete a challenge, you gain 5 points you attribute yourself according to your success in your particular goals for this challenge. I distribute those points in my goals list. I think that's how it works... For now I can do 1, maybe 2 real push-ups in a row. So I'm gonna strenghten with easier push-ups variations (like knee push-ups or incline push-ups) and progressively go toward real push-ups and increase my number of repetitions. Steve made an article about it here. I think I just gonna follow his advice. So again, thank you all and may the Force be with you! Blaidd
Welcome Bastef! On the points thing: you start with 15 points you can attribute and then every challenge you get 15 more points to distribute amongst your goals (with no more than 5 points per goal) so you can push your XP up more if you want. You should talk to Sambalina about a yoga program. She will be able to point you in a direction of good beginner yoga workout, otherwise any of the druids would be able to do the same Good luck. Sambalina
Hey Bastet,I like your goals! I worked on push ups last challenge, and one thing I can say is: experiment with form a bit. I couldn't do a single 'proper' push up no matter how many time I tried, used inclines, etc. until I moved my feet about shoulder distance apart instead of having them hard together. This made such a huge difference, and I can now work on the move and gain strength, whereas before I couldn't even move! Do you have to actually run the clinical study? Or just design it? Either way, it sound really interesting! Any ideas about what you want to focus on? Bastet
Hey Sambalina! Good to see you here!Widing my feet apart looks like a smart idea, I should give it a try. And as for the study, I have to run it! But I'm not asked to do something really valuable on a scientific view, my examinators know that we are only students with little time, difficult access to structure and patient and it's rare for us to find enough patients to make something statistically valuable. But sometimes some studies are published! I think I'm gonna work on reeducation in uro-gynecology. Bastet
So, first update for the challenge: it isn't great but isn't the minichallenge for the week being "don't overdo it"? Yesterday: didn't do yoga in the morning but I made that 20 minutes session when I came back from my internship and it feels oh so good. Thanks Sambalina for recommanding it to me.Before going to bed I stretch the back of my legs (and only that) (which is mostly what I need anyway) (plus I made a yoga stretching session like 3 hours before) (ok I stop my excuses) (and using brackets). No work on my thesis, no strenght training. Today: no work on my thesis and no strenght training either, and I will do a quick ten minutes yoga session and then stretch before sleeping. Right now due to my internship I wake up too early to perform yoga in the morning, so I'm moving it to when I come home. Next week I'm on holiday and then I'm going back to class, so I will have enough time in the morning to do it.I will perform my strenght training tomorrow, and make some online researchs.Thursday I will try to go to my school library take 2-3 books about uro-gynecology and read them during holidays in order to find an interesting subject. Ok, I can do it even if I'm so freaking tired Bastetlvl 2 werecat adventurerSTR 1 | DEX 4,5 | STA 2 | CON 3,5 | WIS 4,5 | CHA 9challenges: #1 #2Dirt Worshiping Backpackers Link to comment

Just watch for the strength trainning days, as they cant be done in a row.. Good luck on finding your subject, hope you find something that really excites you. I believe its a very powerfull motivator, studying something we like and care about. And dont tire yourself out, my worst decisions are made when i'm tired, so relax. I know that there are times when spare time is just rarer then gold, it sucks :/If you need anything feel free to call me maybe ! I wouldn't have seen it without that.Thank you for you support man, we should set up a chat session one of these days! Yoga must be cool if Vader does it!Everything that Vader does is cool. Except the whole killing people thing. So today, I made a first step on finding my subject by reading a compilation of articles in perineal rehabilitation that my referent in my internship lent me. It was something so YAY. But still have no idea so BOO.I'm about to do my yoga session, I know I will stretch before sleep but I had forgotten that I had a birthday party set up tonight so I won't have time to strenght train. Bastet
Man, what a terrible week. But now it's HOLIDAY TIME. Since the last update on wednesday I did pretty much nothing to fit my challenge except a couple of short yoga sessions. I ate like crap, sleep far too little and overthink all the things I have to do. Cause of my work I feel pain all over my body. But today I slept all morning long and already feel better. I have now all my time to stay calm and do my things and my second week should be better (anyway it can't be worse!). And this afternoon: bodyweight strenght training (finally)! So saturday I made a strenght training (light, I wasn't really motivated: just 4 sets of 15 BW squats/10 incline push ups/10 inverted rows/20s plank/15 jumping jacks).I wanted to make an other one today but I made cupcakes instead (... not even paleo muffins. Cupcakes. Damn. I don't thank you . And they're not even good. Why everybody is fond of these? This is not even tasty).Anyway, I made a yoga session this morning and that wasn't easy because I didn't have a mat so I throw a blanket on the floor but it was slippery AND because it's still kinda winter in here so my room is 14°C (57 F). Far from bikram atmosphere. But I did it! I think I need to clear things in my head by doing list and program for the week. Planning a few easily doable things for each day so I know exactly what I have to do and when seems to be the only way for me to carry on right now. And I really have to eliminate sugar off my alimentation and go full paleo again. I was so much more energic and motivated when I was eating right. Ok folks, let's do this! Sambalina
Good on you for doing you lifting and yoga, even without the 'proper' equipment. Anything is better than nothing if it helps keep you happy and motivated. Ergh, yeah, I had a bit of a 'cupcake moment' today too - junkfood you find yourself eating and it's not even that good. But, if what I've read is true, it's *designed* to make us do that (eat it/crave it), and as Steve says, we've only got so much willpower. Slipups and deviations are normal and not the end of the world. Awesome good luck for week 2! I always had a bad sleep, even as a kid and I know it plays a huge part in my chronic asthenia. Working on my sleep schedule will be part of my next challenge!I agree with you that 14°C is a great temperature... but not inside my room. Inside the house it's freaking COLD. I have trouble using my fingers for typing. The fun part is that now it's cold at my parents (in mountain) but last week I was sunbathing on the beach in bikini an swimming in the sea at the city I'm studying in. The contrast is interesting. Yes, these 2 places are 2 hours apart. Good on you for doing you lifting and yoga, even without the 'proper' equipment. Anything is better than nothing if it helps keep you happy and motivated. Ergh, yeah, I had a bit of a 'cupcake moment' today too - junkfood you find yourself eating and it's not even that good. But eating crap that is not even good... damn. What's the point. Thanks and good luck too! So today I did some a lot of school work but nothing related to my thesis. On the fitness side, I did a body weight strenght training (let's call it BWST from now) but for some reason I was feeling fuzzy and weak, and I was shaking right from the start. I don't know what happened, I did nothing more than what I did (with more or less regularity) for the last couple of months. So I did only 3 sets instead of 4 (10 knee-push-ups, 15 squats, 15 free deadlifts (just for trying, but I didn't felt much), 10 inverted rows, 20 seconds plank, 15 jumping jacks).Right after, I took advantage of being warm by doing my yoga routine (30min) plus some stretching for the areas that haven't been stretched by the yoga.I felt really much better after that.
