I'm hoping it will be a good trip :) So far last night and today the fates, Geek Squad (my hard drive situation is *still* not sorted out), and the luggage weight gods have all been conspiring against me. Stress, crazy tight muscles, and a barely mobile neck - great way to kick off a vacation. 

 

Hopefully things will get better.

Week 1 Day 4 Update


 


Goal 1: Drink Like A Fish. 


 


Had my morning tea and 1 Smartwater bottle of water. 


 


 


Goal 2: I See Those Workouts. Let's Take Them A Little Further. 


 


I did Yoga Meltdown Part 1 and then walked quickly 4 blocks to the grocery to pick up dinner fixins. 


 


 


Goal 3: Metrics! All The Metrics! 


 


Metrics. Spreadsheet. Lurve. Math! Blergh!


 


I had my usual DH's green smoothie for breakfast; the rest of the tuna/apple/red pepper/kalamata olive/horseradish/curry concoction for lunch with some Blue Diamond Pecan Thins (gluten free); a mixed nut snack; a pork patty with feta and broccolini for dinner; and an evening snack of white bean hummus with roasted garlic and more pecan thins.


 


I got a metric ton of protein in (223g), only 54g of fats, high carbs (150.5 - just out of the maintenance band), and lots and lots of salt. 


 


 


Goal 4: Finish What You've Started.


 


No work on this goal, just meltdowns when it came to packing. It got done (eventually) but it's not how we want it (both bags are really heavy and we have zero room for anything extra) - not to mention the special bag we bought just for the trip isn't going to work. But whatever, it happened, move past it. Don't let it ruin the trip (or Geek Squad). Relax, Relate, Release.

*Inhale* *Exhale* It's going to be fine! None of these things will really matter for you enjoying your vacation... and especially when you look back on the memory of it, you'll think of all the beautiful places you visited, not how much your luggage weighed :) It's all good. Smile :)

 

And way to get your protein in! Build those muscles, build them!

That is a truly epic amount of protein!

 

When we went to Texas we hardly took anything, so we could go shopping, shopping and more shopping... and the shopping then included luggage scales to make sure we could come home again!

 

Take some time out and relax a bit, no point getting so super stressed and letting anything spoil stuff xxx

Just popping in while I'm not sleeping at 4 am because I went to bed at 9 pm with a mini vacation update. We've done all the walking - over 4 miles yesterday alone, and my body is very tired. I've also been eating like poo, but at least so far have managed to avoid the things I know make me sick. I'm not too sad about it; I built this vacation into my goals, and have done so much walking that it feels like its balancing out - we shall see when I am next back near my scale. I even managed to get 10 spider push-up attempts in last night :) which may or may not have been a foolish idea, since I woke up hobbling.

We are :) And I will totally have some wagon-greeting-back-on to do when we get back! So many new types of crisps (chips)! Sugarless Iron Brew! Bacon fries!

On the not junk food front, traditional Scottish food has thus far been completely awesome, and I might cry when I get back to the states and can't have venison every night for dinner. And haggis. And black pudding.

@BlamedCat: that is a fabulous idea, but a dangerous one - I haven't eaten a chip (before this weekend, minus the very occasional Doritos) in maybe a year? 2? I did get the name of who makes the haggis and black pudding I've been loving so much.

@Ordimoi: Blood + oats + spices. Earthy, wholly satisfying, and very tasty. And haggis tastes like lamby oats.

Mini-Update

Exercise - been hiking and/or walking with and without a 20 pound pack for 3 days now. Today we did a pretty steep hike in a beautiful highland birch forest; yesterday it was pastoral beauty near the shores of Loch Ness; the day before was butt tons of traveling, a brief jaunt through the old part of Edinburgh, followed by a lost rambling through Inverness. So, I think I'm more than getting my workouts in.

Food has been crazy, but I knew it would be. I'm doing veggies where possible, but it seems the Scots aren't all that veggie-focused. I have managed, however, to not make myself sick, so that is a plus.

Water has been crap. I'm trying, but weight is really a factor here - our packs are full to bursting; and my shoulder is killing me - oh, and its cold and windy as all get out. So carrying a big bottle of water just isn't happening. And I discovered my new pop love - sugarless Iron Brew. It's fluorescent orange, and tastes like an anisey cream soda. <3. All this is adding up to a very thirsty me.

And I haven't done jack as far as my craft goal. I even set aside my warm fleece to be able to take my knitting. Our sleep schedule has been crazy - very, very little the first night; a couple of hours the second; a few hour hard nap after hiking today and we are still up at midnight. Needless to say, our bodies aren't operating at peak efficiency.

But, we are having a great time and getting to see some beautiful things. I also don't feel like I'm gaining weight back; I hope at least that I am maintaining.

And yeah, that accent, strait out of where I used to live, Edinburgh is a lot nicer than Glasgow though! 

 

I love haggis, real haggis is illegal in the US as it contains lights (lungs). Black Pudding is tasty too, I haven't had that in ages.

I mean, there have been health reason behind things being, like the BSE crisis, no beef on the bone, etc. 

 

But as far as I am aware, lung poses no health threat (though you can get flooded cooker top when they inflate in a saucepan, yes have done this, cooking them for the dogs).

 

Beef heart is tasty stuff, I love it quick fried with onions, its like steak, bit chewy, but a fraction of the price and very tasty.

Haha it's because of scrapie, basically the sheep version of mad cow disease, that is in the lungs, rather than the brains. But it's not really a big threat, the ban is still pretty outdated.

 

I hear beef heart is actually pretty good, and can get really tender if you cook it long and low. But I imagine you don't even taste it in salami... great way to get some offal in!
