Aeryn's Up and Down Challenge

Aeryn

Recommended Posts

Okay, here we go again. I'm in kind of a motivational slump right now, so I'm hoping this challenge will get me re-energized on my goals. So, up and down:

1. Pull-up: I'm going to do one. Soon? Also working on pistols, still. So, 3x a week bodyweight workouts will get me full points. I may also try grease-the-groove for the pull-ups, because I'm frustrated with the slowness of my progress so far. 3 STR, 1 STA

2. Upside Down: I really enjoyed my handstand goal a couple challenges ago, so I'm going to revisit it. I'm at the point that I can kick up into a wall handstand without too much terror, so getting stronger in that and also working on holding freestanding. 3 practices a week is full points. 2 DEX, 1 STA

3. Tracking all the ups and downs: I'm going to face the spreadsheet of doom and actually record calories, macros, weight, measurements, and whatever else I think of to track. Wolverine, this is all your fault, so you're going to have to listen to me whine about it. 2 WIS, 2 CHA

4. Up out of bed: I have got to stop hitting the snooze button. It's cutting into my morning routine, and it's dumb. This is boring, but hard. 2 CON, 2 WIS

Unscored stuff I'm still doing: swimming 3x a week on non-bodyweight days, juggling, no more than 3 non-water drinks a week.

Okay, let's do this thing!

Those look like some great goals! I hear ya on the snooze button thing, I'm terrible for that (I regularly hit it, like, 5 times in a row. Sometimes I just turn it off and go back to sleep...). One thing that I found helped me in the past is to put the alarm clock on the far side of the room so you have to get out of bed to turn the damn thing off. I would still hit the snooze when I did that, but just the effort to untangle from the covers and stand upright was enough to wake me up that I wouldn't actually fall back asleep, and then it seemed silly to stay in bed when I was wide awake.

Incidentally, this is part of one of my goals too. I'm going back to the 'across the room' method. If that doesn't work, I might have to consider getting one of those puzzle clocks, or the one with the laser guns where you have to shoot targets to turn off the alarm (which would be cool even if I didn't have an issue with getting up).

Haha, between Waldo and Wolverine, there are such good examples of the power of spreadsheets! And I've been tracking calories anyhow, so this is just one step further. :)

Heya Aeryn! Here's hoping that you get these goals, Hands down! (Pun intended )

Thanks, Red!

Yeah, I'm starting with just getting the heck up, but if it doesn't work, I'll have to try moving the clock. I woke up before it this morning, so that was good. I do like the rolling alarm clock that jumps off the nightstand and rolls away so you have to chase it down to turn it off...

I'm with you on the motivational slump. A new challenge should jump start you!

Alarm clocks never worked for me. I just slept right through them until they gave up and shut off on their own. I even had two going off across the room. Good luck on all your goals!

I found a wonderful alarm clock. Every morning like clockwork they start doing really really loud construction on the building across the parking lot, so I end up getting up whether I want to or not ;) Lol

Looking forward to seeing you rock another challenge!! I bet this is the challenge where you will get a pull-up and I will get a push-up :) We can do it!

You have a good, workable set of goals for this challenge.  I dunno about the tracker though.  Playing with fire.  Recall the sad fate of Wolverine.  What started as a one spreadsheet a challenge habit rapidly developed into a compulsion to collect and analyze pretty much everything.  And they say tobacco is addictive...

Whoa, thanks for the links! That is a lot of things you're tracking. I'm starting with Waldo's spreadsheet of Doooom (no really, that's its name in google docs), and I'll see if there's anything else I feel like I need to add in.

Love the theme.  Up and down!

Thanks! I like themes. They give me focus, somehow. Also, makes it easier to remember which challenge was which when looking back.

Hi Aeryn!  :::waves:::  Just stopping by to get subbed.   :)  Love the simplicity and focus of your goals.  Glad to know someone else who is doing a tracking goal and a wake-time goal!

Thanks! I'll be cheering for your goals too!

Yeah, I'm actually starting to get twitchy and ready to get back to my workout routine - evidently the one week off from bodyweight work was a good idea. I just like the snooze button on my alarm way too much. How do you get up on time?

Ha, lemme talk to my neighbor and see if he'd be willing to jackhammer outside my window every morning for the next six weeks... And I hope you're right about the pull-up and push-up! At least we'll get closer, right?

SPREADSHEETS OF DOOM!!! Our mighty tracking powers shall unite and give us dominion over all the known universe!!!

Goal three is okay. I guess.

Haha, your not-evil-at-all plan is totally working!

It's true, I'm known for living dangerously, but the spreadsheets may just be one step too far. We'll have to see if I end up buried under a landslide of data by the end of this challenge.

Good luck! Go and beat that snooze habit :D

 Thanks!

Love your goals, Aeryn! And we have so much in common this challenge. :) Good luck!

Thanks! You're tracking an impressive amount of stuff. I'll be interested to see what you discover.

My wife is the exact opposite of me. She has her alarm set to go off with the radio. It's turned almost all the way down. When it goes off, there's a click. That's all she needs, is the click. After she's out of the shower she pokes me in the face until I wake up, which doesn't take long at all. Lol

Yay, tracking buddy! Maybe we should have an accountabilybuddy group to make sure we all stay on track :P

Ooh, maybe. I did discover last challenge that I'm actually not great at posting in the accountabilibuddies threads regularly - too many places to keep track of. Or we can just bug each other in our threads...

Okay, this a random W00T - I started this whole challenge process last August, basically, just as the weather started to cool off. Now that it's getting warm here, I'm wearing short sleeves and sleeveless shirts. And I keep getting surprised by my muscles! I'll reach out to take something from someone at work, and my bicep's like "hey there." I mean, I've noticed getting more muscle-y during my workouts and mirror-posing moments, but the past few weeks are the first time I've noticed it during daily life. Yay for short sleeves and awesome arms!

What time is your morning routine starting at? Is it a "I need to consistently walk up at 5:00 am so I can get in all my workouts" or is it more like a "I can't let myself sleep in past 10:00 am again" kind of thing....? Just curious cuz I'm an early riser but can't seem to get a workout in early in the morning.
