Once again, another 6 Week Challenge!

Here are my goals:

GOAL # 1 - GET CROSSFIT COMPETITION READY (+2 STR, +3 DEX, +1 STA)

I want to pursue local CrossFit competitions so that means stepping my game up.

I signed up for a competition on May 11th, but I'm looking to do other events as well.

I plan to work on general CrossFit movements (Olympic weightlifting, gymnastic movements, etc) and eventually become an above-average CrossFitter who can compete in local events.

GOAL # 2 - IMPROVE ON WEIGHTLIFTING BENCHMARKS (+4 STR)

Or more specifically, improve on my Bench Press (current # 235), Dead Lift (# 305), Clean (# 155), and Shoulder Press (# 150).

My goal is to increase those numbers and get stronger.

GOAL # 3 - WEIGH 180 LBS (+ 2 WIS, + 1 CON)

Currently, I hover between 185 and 187 lbs. It's not a bad weight, but I would like to lean out more and get rid of excess body fat. I think 180 lbs would be a good weight for me in that I wouldn't lose any strength and I would eliminate the visceral fat.

I should also probably stop eating so much chocolate. :)

GOAL # 4 - FIGURE OUT BIRTHDAY WEEKEND (+ 2 CHA)

I'll be turning 30 in July. I have my birthday weekend off from work and money saved up. I was planning to go to Comic-Con in San Diego but it sold out (Damn geeks...) I most definitely want to travel, but I can't figure out where.

My goal is to find a travel destination and make formal arrangements for my birthday weekend by the time this challenge is over.

This is the flyer for my first (official) CrossFit competition. The Skierg and the Airdyne bike are completely new to me since we don't have those at my CrossFit box. That's part of the reason why I signed up for this so I could be introduced to those movements.

What lifts have you done so far to get ready for Xfit comp?? PRs??

Hey Cheechoe! I've hit a few personal records lately:

165 lbs Push Press (5x Reps)

165 lbs Hang Power Clean

38" Box Jump max height

200 lbs Front Squat

I'll probably incorporate long distance running into my routine leading up to the competition since it's more of an endurance type event.

Today we did Over Head Squats at crossfit which has always been a weakness of mine. My max weight is 95 lbs which really isn't a lot! I'm going to have to work on this movement if I'm going to compete.

I didn't really explain how I plan to achieve GOAL # 3 (WEIGH 180 LBS). I intend to stop eating late at night and cut down on sugar. What's that, you say? Stop eating so much chocolate? Pshhh....Ain't nobody got time for that!

Wow! Great height for box jump!  I can only do 12". Sure, you're taller than I am, but still!

 

Also, STOP EATING CHOCOLATE DAMMIT!

Thanks, Devyn! 12" is a really good height. I'm sure later on you can go higher.

I'm really trying to minimize my chocolate intake. It's just so damn good. :)

Worked on Snatches today. I really feel like I'm getting this movement down. I didn't go heavy; just focused on the mechanics and technique.

My left shoulder has actually been feeling quite sore lately. Nothing serious, though. I plan to get some rest and recover this weekend.

OHS were my weakness for a long time - I constantly questioned my stability but eventually I felt more confident in the movement and that made a huge difference for me. Snatches are now my weakness.

And rowing.

That's awesome that you signed up for the comp! Does it make it "easier" to train knowing you have to compete? I'd love to compete but I keep waiting until I'm ready - not the other way around.

Letting go is the hardest asana.

Yeah, I think my weakness with Over Head Squats stems from my lack of shoulder flexibility. I do feel like I'm improving, though! When I first started CrossFit, I couldn't complete the full range of motion.

I still suck at Snatches; however, I do have Power Snatches down!

Yes! Knowing I have a competition coming up does give me extra motivation and incentive to hit the WOD hard.

You should look into it. I'm sure there are local competitions near your box. I've found that signing up for a comp forces you to get ready.

Update!

GET CROSSFIT COMPETITION READY!

I worked at Snatches & Over Head Squats this week - two of my weaknesses. I still can't move heavy weight with those movements but I'm working on it. I just have to remember that it's all about technique. Practice makes perfect!

IMPROVE ON WEIGHTLIFTING BENCHMARKS!

This goal was invalid this week because we didn't do any lifting. However, CrossFit programming dictates that strength days (or weightlifting days) should occur every other week. We shall see....

WEIGH 180 LBS!

Today, I came at 186.4 lbs on my digital scale. I'll have to try to stop eating so late at night after work (a bad habit of mine) as I presume that's whats causing my weight to remain in this range.

FIGURE OUT BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

I found out my brother from Chicago has made plans to be off from work during my birthday weekend. Yeah! I've always found mountain climbing to be pretty cool so I might look into that as an option.

A new personal record was achieved today at CrossFit! A 5 rep deadlift max of 275 lbs! My previous record was 255#. Onward to 300 lbs!

50# difference?? That's HUGE!! :triumphant:

Muchas gracias, Cheechoe. My form sort of faltered towards the last fifth rep (back was rounding - probably due to fatigue since it was my last set) but other than that, I felt pretty strong.

I'm hoping to try out my 1 Rep Max soon!

Week 2 - Day 10

Goal # 1:

Worked on Handstand Push Ups & Double Unders. I seem to be improving on both these movements! I can keep a handstand hold for about a minute now and can string five to six double unders consecutively!

Goal # 2:

Deadlift + 275 lbs x 5 Reps = a new personal record!

187 lbs. I don't eat late much anymore but I have been lacking sleep. I've got to go to bed way more earlier.
