Hey all,

First challenge for me as well!  I am very excited to really get involved with the NF community.  I am doing this to have more accountability in my life and to help me train for the many races that I have coming up this year. I think the biggest thing I want to do with this challenge is create some positive and consistent routines to get healthy and fit.

Starting Place

5'7" 240.5lbs

I can run about 4 minutes without stopping. (Not very well and not comfortably but it is possible.)

Goals

1.  Cut candy out completely

I had completely cut all candy out of my diet for a month until easter and then I started bingeing on candy again.  So I will be creating the automation again that I do NOT eat candy period.

I found this article to be incredibly helpful in the past and so I will stop the bingeing on candy by creating an automation that say thata I do not eat candy.

2.  Run 5k without stopping  **after reading the first mini challenge I am considering rephrasing this goal.  Perhaps running an entire 5k is not entirely acheivable.  It would be the ultimate goal but in 6 weeks, maybe its a stretch.  So I think instead I will just focus on running 3 days a week.**

I have already started a couch to 5k type program (completed week 3) which I will continue for the entire 6 weeks by running at least 3 times a week.   I think this should make it possible to run a 5k.

3. Do weight training 3 times a week.

I am not sure yet what I want to do for this, I do have a total gym at home which I might use because squats and lunges are very difficult on my knees.

4.  Go to bed at 10pm or earlier every weeknight.

I am a terrible night owl and unfortunately I tend to get into the habit of staying up later and later.  I need to cut this out, so another automation I think.

So it is 11:30pm right now and I think I will go to bed since that is one of my goals.  But since I just saw this challenge tonight, I think I will give myself a pass.  I will be back on tomorrow to edit this though!

Hey, looks like you've got very attainable goals, but are you not going to allow yourself any slack for the candy goal? I understand if you'd rather not, but I'd personally prefer to build in the possibility for a slip so I can still succeed in the overall goal :)

Nice goals!

I was going to pick the sleeping early thing too. Chose to keep it for a further challenge.

Truth is i am gradually waking up earlier for my gym classes, so â™«when the night has come♫ i'm exausted already, no choice but to sleep early.

As to the C25K, i've completed it once, although i'm not at all a competent runner. So a few tips:

C25K is actually a 8 or 9 weeker, if i remember correctly. Maybe your goal could be keeping up w the trainnings instead of achieving the 5k.

I myself only achieved the 5k at "week 10".

#2 is, and i've said it at someone else's thread, very parcial because it's from my personal experience:

Whenever i couldnt complete workouts during a week (for feeling exausted - around week 4 or 5) i would actually progress on the trainning anyway.

Turns out after the weekend of resting i could complete the next workout even without completing the previous one.

So, good luck to you! o/

I'll keep up on stalking you hahah

I like your goals. We're in a similar place in terms of height, weight, and candy addiction, so I can empathize. Couch to 5k was really helpful for me, and I'm getting ready to start it over, then progress to the bridge to 10k. Are you going to do the real life roleplaying game? I've found that it really helps with the motivation. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the comments, I am currently updated my goals and everything above.

Chojinfire, I find that if I allow myself some wiggle room on the candy thing it turns into a much larger issue than if I just pretend to be a robot in this and just say, "I do not eat candy."

Muryanp, I have actually already started the couch to 5k plan, I have already completed the first 3 weeks, so I don't think it is too much of a stretch to be able to finish the program in this period of time.  But I will take that into consideration.  Thanks for the input!

JB, I am definitely planning on checking out the roleplay side of the challenge.

The roleplay is fun. When I was dong C25k, I didn't have access to a metered track, so I was running based on time, and I found that once I hit the point where I was running the whole 30 minutes, I couldn't do 5k in that time. The major streets are spaced a half mile apart, though, and one day I just turned off the 30 minute alarm and ran the whole 5k. It was slow, but I did it. I guess the point is that the training aspect of C25k is great, but don't let it limit you.
