Chanda
So the concept of self defense classes peaked my interest. I had actually said I was going to take one over a year ago but just never got around to it. So I investigated several in my area and found one I really like and that fits my budget. Then are also more than willing to show me how to compensate for my bad hip. Unfortunately they don't have any starting until June so I don't think it would qualify for this mini challenge, but I signed up any way, so I don't put it off and never get around to it again. That counts for the mini-challenge... It would be too much to ask for one to find a class that is actually starting in the few days of the mini-challenge. You found a class, contacted them and signed up!!!! Thats awesome! Go you!!!! Chanda
Hope you enjoyed your time in the dojo! Before you move on... Don't forget to log your Monk activity here)!!!! Now that we are all Disciplined Agile Druids. It is time to move on to the: ASSASSINS AssassinTo assassins, the world is one giant playground. Every building can be climbed, every gap can be jumped, every obstacle can be conquered. Assassins spend most of their time training with functional body weight exercises as that’s usually the only thing they need to lift.Fearless, calculated, and efficient, Assassins have low body fat percentages because extra weight could mean the difference between life and death on a mission. They have solid endurance as well, allowing them to progress through an obstacle-filled environment without breaking a sweat.Primary Attributes: Agility, staminaTraining: Parkour, free running, rock climbing.Real World example: Parkour traceurs, free runners, most athletes onNinja Warrior. Learn from the Assassin Guild and become Versatile like an Assassin! Some suggestions for what you can do (google is your friend, also check what the Assassins are doing):If you haven't already, now is the time to learn about dynamic/functional body weight exercises. You can try the Angry Birds workout or the BBWWO. Your body is all you need to get fit!Look for places close to where you live or work that are good for exercising - parks, playgrounds, walking tracks, etcRead this article which was posted on NF recently... go out and do it! Why not make your usual home keeping tasks more fun? Sneak around while dusting... Vacuum as fast as you can... be as silent as possible while cleaning the kitchen... do a full squat every time you need to pick something from the floor... wax-on wax-off while cleaning the windows... the possibilities are endless. Got children? Play with them! Play catch. See who can hop on one foot... the other foot... backwards! Children make great weights... and they love being picked up... just make sure you don't drop them on their heads! Commando crawl or bear walk along your hallway. Make it a race. You are also encouraged to go snoop around the Assassins forum for this challenge. Read about their goals... find some common ground. You may even meet a new Assassin friend. Remember: You are not being asked to go out there and take up parkour or free running. You can if you are able and willing... but its not needed for this mini-challenging. The goal is to explore and learn something from the Assassins. Notes:Members from all Guilds are welcome to join in!Participating Druids who explore all the Guilds earn an attribute point. You can chose what attribute to allocate the point to based on where you got the most benefit from this challenge. You will have roughly 5 or 6 days to complete each mini-challengeIf you missed a guild you can catch up. Obviously doing all the guilds in a week is not allowed... but 1 or 2 is OK. Guilds so far: Warriors, Scouts, Rangers, Monks and Assassins. Report your participation for each guild here: Around NF in 40 daysMost importantly: HAVE FUN!!!! Chanda
Time sure does fly when you are having fun! This week absolutely flew by. We are reaching the end of our tour of NF. Before you move on... Don't forget to log your Assassin activity here!!!! The last guild we are visiting are the: ADVENTURERS AdventurerAdventurers haven’t quite picked a path yet - or if they have, they’re still working on gathering the skills to start their work in their profession of choice. Named the “Adventurers†based on the fact that everything is an adventure in every sense of the word - new, risky, and unsure of the outcome. These brave souls are not afraid of anything though, and are often found working diligently with their allies to help ensure every adventure leads to the correct path.Primary Attributes: Varies on the adventurer and the path they choose to take.Training: Beginner’s programs - Starting Strength, C25K, etc.Real Life Examples: Weight Loss Learn from the Adventurer Guild and be Inquisitive like an Adventurer! The obvious choice would have been to start with the Adventurers. Instead we are visiting them last. Why? Because the members of the Adventurer Guild are open to learn and try new things and that was the point of this challenge! Some suggestions for what you can do (google is your friend, also check what the Adventurers are doing):Try a new form of exercise.Do a fitness check (google it, or use the standard military one and here, and if you think thats hard check out this one - don't try it unless you are super fit!).Calculate your body fat percentage. Remember this is only an estimate... but if you recalculate every few weeks/months then you know if you are gaining or loosing fat/muscle. Review where you are at today and where you want to be... plot your path to get there! You are also encouraged to go snoop around the Adventurer's forum for this challenge. Read about their goals... find some common ground. You may even meet a new Adventurer friend. Remember: You are being asked to go out there and try something new... To become a better you! WHY DID YOU LEAVE US FOR DRUID!!! and throw axes or shoes I doubt very much they would do any such thing. We are all on a journey to better ourselves, as such if someone finds that another guild is a better fit, then thats the best place for them! VioletFlame
I haven't been updating the spreadsheet, but I did measure my body fat % on my scale. I haven't done that in a long time, and I think I will track body fat% for the next challenge. I have also done some research on yoga moves for upper body strength. I started practice moves for the crow.
