Survey-What is the earliest you get up in the morning?

Recommended Posts

Today, I had to get up at 4:30 in order to fit in a workout today.  This is really NOT the norm.  I usually wake up at 5:45 and get out the door by 6:15 if I want to make it to the gym by 7.  It's a corporate gym located on the 2nd floor of the building where I work.  The gym opened at the beginning of the year, but I've only kept the wake-at-5:45 schedule for the past month.  Before that, it took a lot of effort to take up two hours before I used to wake up just go to work.  Plus, the winters in Boston do not make a walk to the train station very pleasant.

So yeah... the EARLIEST I wake up is 4:30, which I will do occasionally because I have a meeting at 8AM.  This means I'm out the door by 5, catch the non-rush hour trolley and subway trains, get in by 6:00 and I have a good 90 minutes to work out, shower, and throw the suit on.  Days like this, I have to plan ahead.  I went to bed last night at 9pm.

Character attributes: Especially self-critical and self-condemning.  Possesses strong polymathic potential, but circumstances, time and the will toward achieving that potential remain in constant fluctuation. Indecisiveness leads to indecision and determination must be coupled with foreseeable goals. Emotional quotient and empathic ability is high.  However, with indifferent resignation, can be detached from people and places .

I usually get up at 6:30, but I'm not a morning person so I waste my extra time on the internet. My hubby might be getting a job that will require him getting up at 5/5:30 and i'm thinking about getting on his sleep schedule and maybe trying to go to the gym in the morning? I dunno, we'll see...

I get up at 4 am every weekday morning. I used to get up at 5:30 (I have to leave at 6 to get to work), but I found I was always scrambling in the mornings to get ready, so I set my alarm 10 minutes earlier and had a bit more time. I found I was in a better mood when I didn't have to rush around in the morning. Then I set my alarm 10 minutes earlier again so I would have time to read the paper (online) in the morning. Then I found myself getting sucked into the internet and great websites like Nerdfitness, so I set my alarm 10 minutes earlier. After a while I realized 10 minutes wasn't making a difference, so every week I sent my alarm 10 minutes earlier. I got to 3:40, but my wife got mad because I was going to bed at like 9pm and waking her up as I was rustling around the kitchen at such an early hour.

Anyway, since I've embarked on a new healthy lifestyle I get up at 4am and go to the gym. I know this sounds hardcore, but I'm really not hardcore at all, I just like the mornings. I find I'm exhausted after work and I would skip way too many workouts if I went in the evenings. This way I get my workout done first thing, it takes me less time because the gym is way less busy (there are a couple of other regulars at 4am) and I feel great all day!

Try setting your alarm 10 minutes early every week. It works wonders!

I am not a moring person. I generally get up around 7:15 and only get up  before that if there's something special going on or I need to be on the road to make a morning meeting out town.

Now, I get up at 4:30, get ready for work, take care of my kitties, pack my lunch and head to work (I start at 6am).

I used to get up between 3:30 and 4am when I would go in at 5am.

On the weekends, I sleep in. I am more a night owl and actually dislike mornings, but I like being out of work early, so I go in early. :D

Depends. alarm normally goes off at 6:30. I get out of bed between 6:31 and 8:00 depending on the day. Yes i am a contender for king of the snooze button.

I wake up at 5:00 on work days.

I should wake up at 3:30, so I can bike and bus commute in, but it hasn't happened yet.  (possible challenge goal material?)

I am very much a morning person.  I need sunshine!  3:30, while technically occuring in the a.m. hours, is NOT morning.  It's night, it's dark, NO.  Winter is hard for me, too.  I want that external cue from the sun, telling me that no, it's actually not time to sleep.

I have a quick survey for the rebellion, mostly since I'm trying to help motivate some friends:

What is the earliest you get up in the morning? And, what would you do with the time if you were to get up earlier?

For those of you who already do get up early, what motivates you?

Thanks!!

for a while, I was getting up at 5am to run for an hour.  with the next Six Weeks Challenge, I will get up at 5am to go biking.

other things that I would like to do if I could would be read, journal, or write.  just something to kinda welcome the day in.

3:30 is totes still nighttime, I concur.

I used to wake at 04:30 (4:30am) to run before I had to get ready for work.  I was not getting enough sleep most nights because getting to bed by 20:30 (8:30pm) was nearly impossible with kids sports and other evening commitments.

Now I wake at 5:30am, and get to bed around 9:30pm most nights, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.

I try to get up early around 6:30 - 7am, but then It depends if i went to sleep on time, which is hard because I am slightly insomniac, always doing things, projects, working in the garage, at night.

For some reason I feel more energized late at night, then I do during the daytime.

I read that some businessmen make a habit of getting up early, to help them prepare more for their day.

If you want to have more organized, better time managed days, it starts with taking the time each day, to plan it.

I wake up at 0445 daily, and while it was hard at first, it's been awesome! It allows me to go to the gym before it gets crowded, and I can get to work early while it's still quiet. Also, my puppy wakes me up with the accuracy of an atomic clock, so I have no choice...it's quite freaky how precise he is, actually.

I lack a proper circadian rhythm, so sometimes I wake up as early as four, other times I wake up more around dawn when the cat starts bothering me.  I refuse to do anything productive before the sun comes up.

I have conditions that affect my social awareness.  If I am rude, tell me what I could do better.

Up until the beginning of the new 6 week challenge I would have found it difficult to answer this question, as it varied day to day by as much as 8 hours.

I returned to my Army Basic Training roots and started getting up at 0500.  It gives me plenty of time for coffee before I workout.

Sometime between 6:30 and 7 on weekdays.  Saturday depends on if I've been doing anything the night before (say, a midnight movie), but very rarely later than 8 or 8:30.  Getting up later than that usually means I've done something like an all-night Halloween movie marathon, so something I do like... twice a year.

I have my alarm SET for 7, but sometimes I'll get up earlier should I wake, or should my roommate (who's a Naval reservist and thus just up naturally early) wake me up.

One time recently he woke me up around 6:15.  I didn't realize how early it was, so when I heard movement and voices (he turned on the morning news), my first thought was that someone had broken into the apartment and I needed to call the police.

Fortunately my brain caught up with me and I saw the time before I had to have an awkward conversation with the nice police officers.
