Brometheus
Finished up my first day in supervisor training. Managed to get an "you're doing a good job" from my supervisor. My feet also fucking hurt. I swear I walk a TON in my job, but nowhere as much as this. Wow. In some ways the job is super easy [knowing what you have to do], but in other ways it's hard [customer base]. I swear this would be the easiest job in the world if the customer's were a bit better behaving. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Seriously. I swear I don't understand the canadian born asian population. So uppity! Other than that, it went good. There was a ridiculous amount of dessert around the workplace today, which I did NOT eat. So proud of myself for that one. I even brought donuts in for the supervisory and management staff and didn't eat those either. All in all, a good day. I keep on reminding myself, stuff like this? It may be tasty, but it's not in any way, shape, or form actual food. Link to comment

Brometheus
Okay. Quick update. - Food is going good. I had a couple chocolate covered macadamia nut clusters today. Didn't buy ice cream like I wanted. I consider that a victory, however small. I may buy mct oil and make bulletproof ice cream this weekend. I don't consider that "bad" food. - Supervising is fascinating. It's hard at times, and makes me wonder what I signed up for, but it lets me see into the inner circle of the business. Today I had to call 911 [non-emergency call] to report trespassing pan-handlers on the property. That was something I didn't expect as part of the job. Went out to talk to the cops with a supervising manager. Seeing the collision between company policy and humanity makes it...hard. Telling someone that's 6 months pregnant that they're not allowed on the property is harder. Calling 911 for the first time in my life? Even weirder. We have a walk tomorrow with a VP from corporate and I've volunteered myself to be in charge of talking to visitors. One of the sup's told me I was crazy, and I told them it was fine. Talking to visitors is sort of like a high-stakes poker game, and I'm never going to learn without actually doing it. Stepping up and doing it is important, in my eyes. I've handled visiting vp's before when I worked in several other jobs [different position in the company], and the main thing is, you just need to keep cool. -- So as they were leaving they told me I can have it and they'll cover all of the details involving the #'s in the morning. -- - Saw superman. That movie is epic. Go and see it. With the biggest screen possible. Seriously. It's awesome. I would have been perfectly happy seeing the entire movie happen in krypton, seeing the opening sequence was a fascinating look into the planet and superman's back story. This had an interesting take on the new superman movie: http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2013/06/14/2155581/man-of-steel-and-the-meaning-of-the-american-way/ Also, don't sit through the credits. There's nothing at the end... - Go read Neil Gaiman's new book. I don't even know how to describe it, but you MUST READ IT. No excuses either, it's fast and fascinating journey. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and let me see the wonder of life, and the beauty of imagination. Best review here: http://amandapalmer.net/blog/20130618/ I still think that American God's is my favorite book of his, but this one? Interesting day. Your humanity will make you a good supervisor for da man. I've been a manager many times.... Brometheus
Okay, I'm alive. Let's see...job is...interesting. Very high profile / high stress [not sure if this is normal or just because I'm new at it], and I'm just understanding how much pressure supervisor's are under on the weekends. It's a lot of balancing responsibilities and delegating. I'm getting better at delegating, so hopefully that'll improve. I get to do audits tomorrow, which should be fun. Got food poisoning over the weekend. Ate breakfast out, went to the men's hangout, smoked a cigar, and puked. Not fun...I don't think it was the cigar, I'm betting a lot of money on the place I went to breakfast. I may or may not want to smoke again for a while though. Side bonus? In the midst of reading 'american gods'. Forgot how f'd up the book is. I still love it though. Haven't been to the gym in 10 days. Taking a mini vacation while I get oriented at work. I *kind of* miss it, but then I don't. Then I do. But I know that job stress + workouts may in fact kill me. So I'm spending time getting my tissues lacrossballed into submission instead. I may do some kettlebell goblet squats tomorrow and see how that works out. Went and saw the doctor yesterday, we're downgrading my thyroid medication to 1/2 of what it was [looks like progress to me], and we'll continue on the adrenal supplements till October. Saw my acupuncturist and actually got a treatment where I felt better leaving then going in. I think we finally have figured out the right dosage schedule! Niiiiiice. I'm not a huge superman fan, but it's playing at Cinerama, which I heart, so maybe I'll go see it this weekend. Good to hear that you recommend Gaiman's new book. His writing is all kinds of wonderful. And kudos on all the job-related goodness! Thanks. SUPERMAN! So cool. I also saw 'monsters university' yesterday, that was good. Not as good as superman though. Yes, I <3 gaiman. Read his new book, now in the process of listening to the audio book. I'm not normally a fan of audio books, but Gaiman always does an outstanding job. His 'graveyard book' is incredible in the audio format. I saw an office cafeteria once where the -average- employee's breakfast plate was:Fried eggs (not so bad)3 strips of bacon (also fine)2 links of sausage (ok... are we bulking?)A HUGE pile of hashbrowns (um.... seriously?)Biscuit (whoa buddy)Gravy (my arteries are having sympathy pain now)and.....AN ICE CREAM BARYes. that was typical. I mean, why are ice cream bars even for sale at breakfast? Everything sounds good till we add the biscuit / gravy / ice cream sandwhich. I mean, it depends. I don't see anything wrong with hashbrowns if they're fried with lard. If they're cooked with veggie oil? Meh. Yeah, I wonder a lot about all of this. I'm fighting against what we consider "normal", and there are times where that seems incredibly hard. It's been 5 days. How are things going? Okay. I think. Link to comment

cline
stop smoking! bleh. even occasional cigars - boo! YEAH for work! I think job stress at a supervisory level is normal when you are new and sorting it all out. High profile is very very very good. This is going to go really well for you!! I think you're not going to the gym for a while is going to work out really well. Especially since you seem mixed on it. Taking that stress away is probably allowing you to find a lot of balance given the new work role. "I have to get to the gym" or "I have to run" or "I have to go zumba" is never a good way to approach life. But the best news of all - your health!!! Seems like your plan must be working!!!!
