Emissary2Ornj
Kk, here we go, yo. Going to be out of town the first week of the challenge so my workout and maybe my diet goal will be a little modified. Also - because I want to keep this fun without slipping into being overwhelmed (not a long trip these days) I won't be following anybody or pressuring myself to update frequently. Intake: 2 WIS 3 CONI will not eat past the feeling of satisfaction this challenge. Trying to exercise listening to my body here. Okay, this is just turning into a lazy, ambiguous, nothing's-happening-here goal. Gotta change it up. I've fallen out of a breakfast habit so I should probably start there again. So, revised Intake goal, part A: Every morning I'm up early, I'll eat a protein (eggs or almond butter) and fruit. If I need a grain to feel full, I'll eat oatmeal. Revised Intake goal, part B: I pledge to eat thankfully and as mindfully as I can. Specifically this means no iPod or books or magazines or newspapers while I'm eating. Output: 2 STR 3 STABeginning week 2 of the challenge, I'll do a Beginner Bodyweight Workout as often as I can - given my still-healing back - up to as many as 3 x a week. Every time I do a Beginner Bodyweight Workout, I will do more than I did the last time. Clarification: I'll begin at 3 circuits. The next time I'll do 3 circuits plus a 4th set of jumping jacks, the 2nd time I'll do 3 circuits plus jumping jacks and squats, et cetera and see how many circuits I can do without stopping. Alternately, I will add reps or sets of exercises per circuit. Output: 2 STAI'll walk 30 minutes outside on my off days, up to 4 times/week. This means getting a walk in every morning of Challenge Week 1. Wholeness: 3 WISI'll sit quietly every day (preferably morning), practicing mindfulness, adding a minute each session. Starting time will be 3 minutes. "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. You're not in it to be eligible for prizes. Aeryn
You're baaaack! Glad to see it. And yes, don't stress yourself out trying to keep up with the boards - the point is the challenge, not the posting about the challenge. Looking forward to seeing you rock this. Emissary2Ornj
Week 1 grading: Intake (I'm going to tweak this goal; it's hard to measure!): B. I was out of state at a large gathering where 3 meals/day were provided, with lots of snack food. (All the entrees prepared on-site were gluten-free - cool!) There was a lot going on and eating was kind of secondary. I didn't eat to the point of feeling over-full but I did eat things when I wasn't hungry. Can't say it was very mindful! Output: n/a (this goal starts week 2) Output: D I walked 1 out of a possible 6 opportunities. *tsk* Wholeness: F Have not done this yet. (I've done lots of thinking, and have had lots of quiet time. But I didn't get in the physical position, nor did I set any timers.) Also *tsk*. Reaction:Wow. Better get it in gear this week, hadn't I? Definitely going to tweak that nutrition goal, b/c it's pretty vague. Either I need to set parameters and definitions for "fulness" or I need to change up the goal entirely. Week 2 is already going better which makes me that much more determined to do this thang, yo. "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. You're not in it to be eligible for prizes. Emissary2Ornj
Week 2: Intake: B (Did A work on not overeating; did C work on quality of food, especially today and Thursday.)Output: A! Am rocking this - check out my PR tracker for details.Output: F Wholeness: D 'Kay, I bought a set of watercolors (6cc tubes) on clearance at Hobby Lobby today. I cannot use them unless I walk 3 off-days a week AND meditate at least 2 times a week the rest of the challenge. I will store them with my extra things so I won't be tempted and make do with my set of watercolor pencils unless I achieve these. "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. Emissary2Ornj
Week 5: Whee! I'm pretty pleased about what's happening for me this challenge. I've been more active in between workouts the past weeks than ever before, which was the point of my first Output goal. (I'm a little unsure how I'll end up grading that, because I haven't walked every off day but I have done some sort of activity most days. Like walking, or playing basketball - just doing something.) Meditation is becoming a favorite grounding/centering/calming device. It's fun to figure out how to make each workout harder than the one before it. And I'm enjoying my food, not just eating it distractedly. Overall grade for this week: A- "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. You're not in it to be eligible for prizes. You're in this because you made a promise to yourself and you refuse to let you down. Walk the talk. Emissary2Ornj
Challenge 4 summary:Whee! That was quite a trip. I don't know that I'm fully re-emerged but I've made a good start. Overall all I'm pleased w/how this six-week session went. I really enjoyed my workouts and my meditation sessions. I like being more mindful of and thankful for my food, and I have been way more active the past month or so than usual on my off days. I'll be awarding myself partial points this time, looks like. What I wish I'd done differently: I wish I'd explained in the beginning that the "walk every off day" goal was about me being more active in between workouts. Then there wouldn't have been the confusion of how to grade it. That's a very minor quibble, though. What I learned:Listen to your body!!! (I keep having to relearn this lesson, it seems. I'm SO impatient!)How to make a yummy smoothie for breakfast complete w/lots of protein and fiber and some healthy fat. (I started drinking breakfast 1/2-way through the challenge. Bought my first protein powder ever!) Grades:Intake: This became a 2-part goal. I homered on eating breakfast, I dropped the ball some of the time eating mindfully, without distractions. Hence, a B-ish grade. 83% of total points possible = +1.7WIS +2.5CONOutput: Get moving on the off days! While I certainly didn't walk every off day as my original challenge decreed, there were many times I did something - basketball, playing outside, walking. Unfortunately, it was not often enough for full points, or even enough points to brag about. A high-C grade. 60% = +1.2STAOutput: I rocked this goal!! Check out my daily battle log thread for before/after numbers. They may be "beginner gains" but I loved posting them. A! 100% = +2STR +3STAWholeness: I still do not meditate often enough! I definitely benefit from it though and will keep it up. Another C+ grade. 60% = +1.8WIS "You're not in it to get Most [Recognized Rebel Ever]. You're not in it to be eligible for prizes.
