kraynger
Hiya, I'm kraynger. Tech_Hunter
Hi kraynger! Good to see your post, I subbed to you. The first week is easy for many people, as it is exciting and new! For some, though, life gets in the way and throws us curve balls. Please remember that this will take time, even beyond the 6 weeks of this challenge. We are in it for a lifetime! If you have a mess up, or you derail on a goal for a moment, pick yourself up and assess the situation logically. Realize that you will not be 100% forever, and get right back on your challenge! It's never just the one treat, or the one day you don't feel like working out that makes you fail, it is the decision that, once you mess up, you aren't good enough to continue that kills it for you! If you are having trouble, come post on this group for support. If you see a fellow buddy struggling, try to be as encouraging as one can be on the interwebz and help them back on the rails. I would love to see every one of our group with a great challenge end post, so lets get going! Housekeeping item: If you have not signed up officially for the 6 week challenge, sign up here.... bonita
Tech_Hunter: thanks for the welcome. i hope it works better for me this turn. the last challenge was like you said: life gets in the way... went on vacation quite spontaneously and had a lot of work to do in the office before the week off so i had no time to climb or go to the gym. so i'm super motivated to do it better this time. and as you know, i have good support at home - and here in the group! Tech_Hunter
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! (or afternoon, if you are in Europe......evening for Aussies, I think!) LadyWitch, welcome! I like your hair! I would love to dye my hair dark purple, but I think my family would commit me..... Hang in there Spider-man, and log you days, that tends to help me.....if I have to tell everyone what I did, it keeps me honest! I have a tip for everyone, maybe it will help you guys.... I have always been an emotional eater, it was my go-to for feelings. I do not express my feelings well in real life. I have been called cold, a robot, etc. It's just that I like to pick my time and place to break down, but it is odd to other people. When I choose to be angry or upset, food was usually involved. I, oddly enough, am also a people-pleaser. You would think that this is the exact opposite of the above, it's not. I always molded my personality and conversations to agree with others so they would like me. I had different opinions, sometimes opposite ideals, but I would go along to get along to be accepted. Food was a refuge for me. I would hold things in, pick my spot, and then binge physically and emotionally. Obviously this is not healthy. I found in the last year that, just as much as starting healthy food habits, I needed healthy relationship habits. This was not easy, as I have been married for 19 years, and have three kids, so people are used to a certain person. However, my health is important, to me and for my family, so I started making some changes. First off, I started having opinions.....that were different from others. Believe it or not, just my taste in music has been a shock to my family, not so much the kids, but my husband and friends. Music, food, my daily routine, my dislikes ( which I NEVER shared).....all out on the table. I was called angry, selfish, probably rude at some point, just for having different opinions. This was very difficult for me, but I keep it up. The reason I bring this up is that my personal opinions and interests have taken the place of food for comfort for me. Instead of binging at night, I have an mp3 player filled only with songs that I absolutely love that I will use, and go for walks. I visualize myself strong and fit, and think of the positive reactions of strangers, When I started lifting, I didn't tell anyone, usually because I get verbal knocks for it, but now, I don't care what others think about my interests, so I lift when I want, even if people are home. I also have started watching YouTubers, which I find amusing. I watch movies that I find interesting, instead of just seeing whatever everyone else wants to see. The reason that this is important, is that I think many people on NerdFitness have emotional ties to food, and we need to find healthy replacements, but sometimes that just means knowing your own self. My family has adjusted, and is now doing this challenge as well. My challenge goals are up on the whiteboard at home along with everyone else's, and no one mocked them, so I have come a long way. Maybe I should rethink that purple hair! My challenge this week for our group is to really think, do you have a hard time having an opinion around others? Is there an interest, an activity, a band, something that you want to like, but are afraid what others will think of you? This is a good time to choose that activity over food. And maybe I will find someone else that is almost 40 that likes to work out to Muse and Fall Out Boy! Sorry this is long, but be deliberate with your choices today. Think about what YOU want in life, what YOUR goals are, and make decisions based on your head. Tech_Hunter
You guys are going to get sick of my posts.... OK, I added my first 6 week challenge log to my sig line, in case anyone wants to read that for inspiration. I knocked it out of the park, very proud of myself, maybe you can find some of it helpful. Also, I saw that a few of you are doing some form of Paleo for the challenge....GREAT goal! I was very happy with my progress on Paleo, even more than primal, which is what I had been doing......I basically added loads of vegetables, dropped the dairy, and started watching my oils and fats. HUGE difference! I have heavy cream now, but I am still keeping away from cheese, too easy to overindulge, and it bloats me pretty badly. So, a couple websites that I go to for food porn....er.....inspiration.... www.paleomg.com - The woman is hilarious, her personality is very honest, I like that, and the food..... www.elenaspantry.com - This woman found out her son is celiac and she has a great website with interesting recipes. I made her coconut flour cupcakes and was hooked! She has a tab with paleo recipes. Do remember that many of these recipes should still be considered treats. Just because it is paleo, doesn't mean it should be the bulk of your food for the day. Stick with the whole foods, meat and veggies, and a couple really good fats like olive and coconut oil, and you'll be golden. I don't make the above often, but if you get in trouble, thinking you will just DIE without a treat, try to make it as paleo as possible. Stay away from the wheat and refined sugar, it will cause you to binge! Have a great day! Level 3 Pandaren Adventurer[*]16 WIS/12.5 CON/2 STR/3.5 DEX/4 STA/7 CHA [*]My Levelling Log/Challenge Thread! bonita
Tech_Hunter: i love that you post so much. don't stop! love your challenge as well. i collect dolls - asian ball jointed dolls and blythes - and although i'm in this hobby for about 6 years now i still don't tell a lot of people. i love to sew for my dolls and it is really relaxing for me. you reminded me that i haven't been sewing for them for ages now. i might have to change that. in case anyone wonders how my dolls look like, here are two pics (i have much more dolls then these): "never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. the time will pass anyway." - earl nightingale halfling - adventurerSTR - 2 | DEX - 3 | STA - 3 | CON - 3 | WIS - 2 | CHA - 2challenge – no.1 no.2 Link to comment

kraynger
Thank you Tech_Hunter for sharing your story. I too have struggled with emotional eating, as well as trying too hard to be a people-pleaser that I sometimes don't share my own opinions. Gave me a lot to thing about I'll take your challenge, maybe share some more things that have been on my mind with my husband, who knows, maybe we can find another hobby that we can do together Also, I noticed myself, like Spider-man feeling the motivation waning today, but knowing that you guys were here and might be reading my challenge updates and struggling yourselves, I got off my butt and did, so thanks a bunch, even just for being here @Bonita: those dolls are beautiful! I love the photography as well, do you have a little studio setup to photograph them? What got you into the hobby in the first place? and finally: Welcome LadyWitch I'll go check out your challenge. Sapphirite
I usually eat when I get bored. It's really just something to fill the time. I mean, I have books and video games, but I don't get a lot of social interaction because I live out of town with my parents. I try to visit my friends, but It is a long drive and lots of gas. As for something I love to do, I LOVE boffing (foam weapon fighting)!! My preferred weapon is the Spear, but I'm working on using a Glaive and I want to learn dual swords. bonita
thanks so much for your comments about my dolls. normally people find them really strange or even scary. i first found out about blythes (the one with the big head) on another forum. through pics on flickr and other forums i found out about latis (the small one with the white hair) and other ball jointed dolls. but i totally neglected my doll hobby the last year. too much work and other stuff in mind so i hope to find some time for sewing for my dolls soon. i don't sew all their clothes, but mostly.LadyWitch: it might needs patience to sew such tiny stuff. for me it's really relaxing - and i do it all by hand. Tech_Hunter
Good evening everyone! I had the craziest day with work, and an old awesome friend moving back to our state, and I sort of put off my weights until 5:30....and I wasn't going to do my walking, but after the weights, I thought it would be nice, so I did it anyway! So, keeping up with my fitness goals, haven't missed a lifting day in 7 weeks. LadyWitch-I have heard of Steampunk, but I didn't know it involved physically dressing and having alter egos! Going to go look this up...... Thanks kraynger-definitely talk, it will at least help others know your mind. I live in my head, so I think it's sometimes very shocking when I voice an odd opinion, but at least it's out there, and I can be who I am. Sapphirite-I get the boredom thing....I have learned slowly to think before I eat, every time, am I hungry? Can I replace this with something else? Even a game, or a walk. I also live about 30 miles from town, and hate to burn the gas! I go in once a week, and really prefer myself as company, hence my goal of socializing. Maybe a note in your kitchen to remind you to think whether or not you need to eat, and a list of other things you can do instead? Spider-man-No problem, the support is mutual, so I get a lot out of posting! How did the no dairy go today? Hi Heisenberg-no problem, I'll add you to the list. Pick a couple people and follow their logs, you guys can post most of your conversation here, but it's nice to see the daily life of others, and you can pick up some good food tips! eab2469-Well done on the soda....I swear they put crack in those bottles! So hard to stop drinking. My daughter has decided to give up pop for this 6 week challenge, and she's doing well too, but she has a dance on Friday, and I know that going out in public, that is when the pop monster strikes! Take your time with the fitness, maybe check out the beginners bodyweight routine on this site, it is very good, and will not tax your back or knees. You can figure out great form before moving on to weights. I did that and walking, works for me. Don't overdo. Have a great night everyone!
