I'm super effing jealous of your vacation. Every time I come to post something here, I see that hotel picture, I want it and I cry. I'm smaller and lighter than bigm, so I'll fit in your suitcase easier. Keep that in mind...

Thanks!  You, BigM, and about 17 books.  I guess the volume is spoken for!  I have this weird vision of you guys hiding out on this little island, foraging for coconuts and trying to hunt tiny geckos with your bare hands. 

 

agreed^ I have an american express application on my desk at home that will give me tons of bonus airline miles. I need to sign up asap.

Do eeeeeet.  I got the British Airways visa a couple years ago, got the 50k mile bonus, and then just used it for as many expenses as possible.  Considering that it's probably saved me 16k in ticket cost, totally worth it!

I'm doing a bit of both dietarily, eating a slight deficit and keeping it clean without being super neurotic (it just doesn't work for me).  So it's 90% paleo with tiny bits of dairy for flavor, no dessert, more carb, more protein, less, fat. 

 

our sub is tuck jumps -- to force people to learn DU's because tuck jumps suck. :)

 

also, 3 weeks? vacation? where do i sign up?

Oh man, saving up the vacation days was sooooo hard.  Esp around Christmas when I really wanted to take some extra time off, but I know it'll be worth it.

Day 9

Didn't sleep well and missed my alarm (and by extension, workout).  Was going to go after work but forgot that I had dinner plans, which was really nice because sometimes I forget to have a social life during the work week and they're a super fun group of people.  Didn't eat so well though.  

 

Food: Bleh

L: Roasted chicken with roasted veg

D: fried chicken breast, a couple spoonfuls of pudding.  eating kind of hurts right now with my still-damaged mouth

 

Workout: Bleh

Day 10

Very good day.  Got up early, hit crossfit, found out about ALL THE STRONGMAN THINGS at my gym (pretty much all the equipment I need is available there), full day of productive work, and R&R at home.  After this post, I'm gonna read and sleep (not at the same time).

Day 11

Slightly chaotic day at work.  I had just finished off most of the food I cooked this week.  Intended to run to Whole Foods for lunch but got wrapped up in meetings.  managed to get to the gym at 8pm which is practically bedtime for me.  Food is still moderately unappealing with the latent pain from smacking myself in the face with a rock (my teeth, they ache).

 

Food: Meh

B: protein bar, black coffee.

S: trail mix

S: half a latte, oy.

D: (finally!) 6 oz of seabass.  1 c sweet potato

 

Workout: Check!

Seated shoulder press.  2RM at 65lbs.  Arms were still a little torched from yesterday

Dumbbell clean and press.  2RM at 45 lbs

5 sets of pushups

Day 12

The day was sufficiently stressful that after work I came home, curled up with the puppy, and slept for two hours, thus missing my workout.  I compounded this by choosing to eat a bowl of curry rather than prepare dinner, leading to feeling awful and full.

 

Food: Meh

B: 1 c cottage cheese and a banana

L: chicken breast and a salad

S: Half a latte

D: paneer tikka masala with 1 c rice, 3 oz of stewed lamb

 

Workout: Fail

Day 13

Much better.  Got sleep, ate well, worked out, watched the hobbit, read.

 

Food: OK but not great.

B: coffee, some strawberries, handful of trail mix

L: Chipotle salad with beef and pork, guacamole, fajita vegetables

D: Roasted chicken breast, chicken leg, assorted roasted root vegetables (turnip, rutabaga, waxy potato, carrot).  a mini cupcake.

 

Workout: Yeah!

Day 14

Sunday is hiking and/or running day.  I've been instructed to keep my running very moderate (1x per week) so I guess that's how it's gonna be.  After hiking the SO and I went out for a nice dinner, and then we went to see Star Trek.  As a non-trek person, I'm enjoying this franchise, but I'm wondering how many more installments before it jumps the shark. 

 

Food: Fair to middling

B: Half a gluten-free protein bar on the drive to the mountain.

L/D: Out at a Taiwanese restaurant.  A pork chop with 3 c of baby bok choy sautéed with garlic and ginger, some sautéed rice (it was like mochi) with ground pork

 

Workout: Good

6 mi fast-paced hike with about 1200' of gain

Like Whoa, what did I do last week?  Let's see...

  1. RECOMPZ: Measurements tomorrow.  Food was really mediocre this week so I'll be happy if change is flat.
  2. GAINZ: Lifting wasn't great this week. Got some serious stress going on and I didn't hit the gym nearly as much as I should've (and really, why not? it's the most effective thing for stress relief.)  That said I did do the following:
    Hike: 4 miles up in the mountains
    Oly Lifting Class: 90 minutes of front squat (110x2 PR) and snatch form work
    Run: 5.6 miles also up in the mountains, on trails. 
  3. COMPETE...Z:
    Part 1: Run a 5k.  Almost there!  Signed up for a 4th of July 5k
    Part 2: Sign up for any other comp.  There are a few powerlifting comps going on over the summer OR there's a 2day crossfit comp (with a scaled division) going on in Portland in October. I am kind of leaning toward the latter.  Mostly because it means a trip to portland :)

See, I felt the same way about the new Star Treks. I was never into the old ones, but the lady friend is... so I get to enjoy them while she sits there nit picking.

This is true! Normally she is hyper (as hyper as a french bulldog can be, which is honestly very hyper) but she does, on occassion, assume potatular form

Mochi rice = chewy grains or was it more rice cake/patty things? Sauteed sounds more like the former, but chewy rice cakes are tasty.

Thanks! It was kind of like a dense/chewy rice cake sliced thin and then stir fried.  Super delicious.

Mmm. There's a Chinese restaurant in Cambridge that I used to go to that makes a stir fry with rice cakes and it is awesome. It normally has meat but we asked them to make it vegetarian so the vegetarians could have some and it tastes better that way.

Food: Alright

B: Early meeting so I skipped :(

S: coffee w/heavy cream

L: steak salad, 5 oz steak plus 4 c greens and 1 tbs dressing

D: went out to favorite mexican restaurant.  chicken stew in tomatillo salsa, about 1/2 c rice, and 1 serving tortilla chips.  kept it gluten-free, so I'm pretty happy with that.

S: a banana

Super jealous of trip to the Maldives, have you thought about doing a SCUBA course out there?  Snorkelling is fun, but being under the water is an even more amazing adventure.  You couldn't ask for a better place either.

Thanks! I've mostly lifted solo and with the help of Coach YouTube, but for the last few months I've been lifting in a bunch of environments  (globo-gym, xfit, and on rarer occasion, LBEB)

As a matter of fact, yes!  I've never done scuba before but they have a two hour intro class that I'm planning to take, esp because the reef drop is only about 50m from the bungalows and there's so much fauna in the water.  Last time we were there, i saw a turtle and baby sharks within seconds of hopping in to the water.
