Starbon being Disciplined

no, i don't mean being disciplined by your teacher. Or anyone else. lol

 

My challenge for the next 6 weeks is to keep at a thing (or 3) until it is second nature to me. No new activities , just reinforcing the habits for old ones.

 

Challenge # 1-

 

Go to the gym 3 days a week. Each day i will do one more pushup and bodyweight squat with good form during warmups, and match (at the least) or increase my weights (by 5 pounds each time at the most with good form for 5 reps comprising 1 set AT THE MOST).

 

routine -

warmup - 

2 mins jump rope (with breaks since i'm lousy at it)

24 pushups

24 squats

10 mountain climber

50 jumping jacks

10 swing legs (or whatever they're called), forward and sideways, each leg

10 forward lunges (each leg)

 

workout - 

squat - 100 lb 5 reps 3 sets

overhead press - 65 lb 5 reps 3 sets

deadlift - 60 kg 5 reps 3 sets

bench - 90 lb 5 reps 3 sets

rows - 70 lb 5 reps 3 sets

 

cooldown -

bridge (yoga) - 10 seconds both legs then 10 seconds with each leg raised

10 sun salutations

lower back and spine stretch poses

 

challenge # 2-

floss on the days i don't work out (i.e. monday, wed, friday, sunday). gotta wage war on plaque and poor dental hygiene

 

challenge #3 - 

practise the guitar everyday i don't lift and FINALLY finish mel brooks guitar basics book 1

 

grades - (done weekly) 

A - for meeting or achieving goals

B - missing one challenge in a week

C - missing 2 challenges in a week

D - missing all 3 challenges in a week

flossed on wednesday and worked out today. increased both pushup and squat by 1

 

workout - 

squat - 0/8/1, 10/8/1, 25/5/3, 30/8/1

overhead press - 0/8/1, 5/8/1, 10/5/3, 12.5/5/1

deadlift - 0/5/1, 25/5/3

bench - 0/8/1, 5/8/1, 30/5/2, 25/5/1

rows - 70/8/3, 80/8/1

 

read as weights (in lb and on each side, barbell weight excluded) / reps/ sets. deadlift weights are in kgs

 

I'm curious to try out a pullup, or rather a squirming, grimmacing version of it on sat. lol

 

So far so good :)

I love that you added flossing to your goals. I promised my dentist I would step it up with the flossing and I am failing him. I seem to always lose my rolls of floss.

I am in awe of your warm up and work out. You make what I do at the gym look like a baby kitten. XD

Awesome job though! Especially on the flossing, I hate flossing..

I find assisted pulls up and dips good because I still get to do the exercise and get the reps even though I have very little upper body strength..

26 pushups, 26 squats in warmup

 

leveled up my squat, overhead press, deadlift, bench and row weights by 5,2.5, 1 extra set, 5 and 10 lbs each woot woot

 

forgot to floss on friday, flossed instead on saturday *pheww

 

haven;t touched the guitar though :(

 

based on that I give myself a score of C . cursessssss

I need to floss! Doing it now. :D

 

10 sun salutation cool down, wow! I usually see those in people's warm-ups, because they get yer blood moving. If it works for you to cool down with that, more power to ya. Maybe I'll try it out some time. Like today, after my 5 mile run.

increased pushups and squats to 28 each (yeayyy)

 

squats - 0/8/1, 10/8/1, 32.5/5/5 ( in other news, saw a girl squat with 45 on each side right beside me with perfect form. Damn. I needs to up my game)

overhead press (hereafter shortened to press) - 0/8/1,5/8/1, 15/5/3

deadlift - 0/8/1, 10/8/1, 25/5/3, 27.5/5/2

bench - 0/8/1, 10/8/1, 30/5/3, 32.5/5/1 (slipped back on this one >.<)

rows - 90/8/3

 

Flossed on wednesday too. Didn't touch the guitar though. looks like I;m gonna fail THAT particular challenge :(

haha thanks Primeval, you're too kind. But I need to progress much further to actually legit earn the 'muscle man' moniker :P reminds me of the Robert Frost poem " The woods are lovely , dark, and deep..." 

 

In other fail news..I didn't floss yesterday and instead went out shopping (read goofing around) and om nom nom ing on frozen yogurt. AND seriously thinking about not going to the gym today. Oh my. I'm slipping. Gaah  >.<

 

I guess I;ll know by the time evening rolls around what I'm made of ..

Finally got around to reading your challenge.  You go, man!  Consider me impressed :)  I am now going to parrot your own advice back at you.  Take in one day at a time.  If you have a bad one, at least it was just one bad day, not two weeks of them.  Sometimes you need a day to relax a bit.  And bonus points for quoting Robert Frost :)  So, how did the rest of the day end up going?

Thanks guys for the inspiration. I WILL floss today, but not go to the gym. Big meeting on monday and I am woefully underprepared, not to mention continuously wasting time either on here or on 9gag >.<

Sometimes work just won't leave you alone :(  Sorry about the meeting!  I have that problem with school.  I'll sit at the computer for hours doing work.  My strategy for my summer classes is to do something every time I get up.  A set of pushups, or squats, or something.  That way, hopefully I can defeat the urge to put all my energy into school.

 

Either way, you will rock your meeting, and continue to rock this challenge :)  You've got this!

Aw man you guys are so great. I'm gonna lift like a mother...hugger on monday evening. assuming boss leaves me intact and not decapitated by the time I'm done. As usual I have procrastinated too much and have to come in tomorrow as well for work. Arghhh I miss the misery lol

Back when I had a corporate, stress-full job, I used to end bad days with a sauna to detox. It worked pretty well for me. Also, it feels amazing.

 

Seems like you've been keeping up with the flossing. That's a pretty important life change. Nice job! :positive:

Back when I had a corporate, stress-full job, I used to end bad days with a sauna to detox. It worked pretty well for me. Also, it feels amazing.

lol sadly I'm still in academia, so not enough money for a sauna xD. That being said, I know its going to sound girly, but I want to go into a spa once in my life just to see what all the fuss is about. Heck maybe I'll run out screaming for the hills :P or maybe not :D
