vengefulpear
Hello fellow Rebels!Recently whilst perusing for something to end my lunch on a sweet note I found one of these bars and I was quite pleased to look at the ingredients and find that it was all very simple and paleo! (I'm slightly guessing that dates are paleo) And although it's high in sugar I don't think I'm going to find a sweet treat that isn't! This weekend I'm going to try and blend together and make my own, especially as they look like they can just be left to set in a fridge. But we'll see when I experiment! And if they do work I'll post up the recipe that I used for them.So I was wondering if any other Rebels had any recipes they use to make their own (paleo) versions of snacks and treats that most people buy over the counter? KingZora
Rolled oats, plus dark chocolate powder, plus peanut butter (or any other nut butter), plus any other kind of nut I have available crushed up and mashed all together. Then just cut it into bars, or roll it into balls, and refrigerate and you've got a nice calorie dense snack bar. We used to make them in a 5 gallon bucket during swim team training trips. All the benefits of a protein bar at roughly 1/20th the cost. franchise
Sounds yummy. Not paleo, though... Obviously replacing the peanut stuff with nut stuff would work. Wonder what would make a good oat sub... seeds of some sort maybe? Wonder what would make a good oat sub... seeds of some sort maybe? Not paleo... but oats on the spectrum of bad grains aren't horrendous. If you want to make it paleo just substitue oats with coconut flakes. Personally I like the flavor of oats more... also http://www.marksdailyapple.com/are-oats-healthy/#axzz2WlI97IbJ in case you want a big name dude telling you that it's ok to put something not paleo in your mouth on occasion Quote LVL 3: Zoran Warrior STR:9 | DEX:5 | STA:10 | CON:5 | WIS:12.75 | CHA:9 Current Challenge: Not Really A 6 Week Challenge Challenge Previous Challenges: 1st, 2nd "The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Blueberries
Coconut ButterPut 4-5 cups of unsweetened shredded (or flaked) coconut in a food processor. Turn it on and let it run for about 20 minutes until the consistency is somewhat like a grainier version of peanut butter. It will be runny at this point, but it will thicken up to a more spreadable texture once it cools. Store at room temperature. You can also put some in the refrigerator to make it harden up into candy-type pieces. oh noe the paleo police are coming... rolls eyes.If someone is asking on the Paleo subforum specifically for DIY Paleo treat recipes, I don't think it's too much to ask that something non-Paleo be marked as such.
