WandererCorliss
Hello, i get chronic charlie horses / pinched nerves in my left foot to where my for is trying to fold in on itself or my middle toe gets a mind of its own and points down as the rest of my toes are reaching for the sky. Its quite painful and likes to pop its ugly head out when i am trying to do floor exercises, if my leg stretches out while i sleep, and any other random moment. I am thinking this is a result of a vitamin deficiency i just don't know which ones. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so how did you get rid of the problem? Bolson32
Potassium? Generally a culprit in Muscle cramps. Eat some bananas or potatoes if you're not paleo. Duality
I think cucumbers also have a good deal of potassium Quote It's not 80% diet, 20% exercise, it's 100% diet, 100% exercise. KingZora
Potassium, Salt, and Water... those are the three things most likely to cause something like that. If any of those are too far out of balance than you run the risk of those crazy cramps. Too much water means you need more salt and potassium and vice-versa. I drink tons of water, i have to watch my salt (sodium) intake so i tend to avoid it as much as possible; and i am averaging 5 banana's a week where they are mostly used for Banana Pancakes that i use as bread or just something to nibble on. So from this wealth of knowledge that you have bestowed upon me defiantly solidifies that i need more Potassium! Priority numero uno tonight is increase Potassium! Thanks!! KingZora
Oooh, I almost forgot about another major one, Calcium! Calcium is huge for regulating muscles contractions as well... how is your calcium intake? Also just as a note... potassium and sodium don't serve the same purpose so increasing one in the event of a lack of the other most likely wont have a beneficial effect. Low salt usually has other issues besides the major cramping you are describing. Potassium and Calcium are more likely to cause major cramping. I get maybe a max of 40% of my daily needs since i usually only have 3 oz of Greek yogurt and maybe raw shredded cheese with omelets. Vian
Dairy is not the best source of calcium. It's in there, but most of it is added after processing, and it's not very bio available. Better sources are leafy greens. Lettuce, spinach, kale, chard, etc. Any dark green veggie has loads of calcium. Also, I'm not sure why you are avoiding salt (My guess is doctors advice because of hypertension) but in many cases, REAL salt (unbleached sea salt and Himalayan pink salt) have been shown to improve heart health and stabilize blood pressure. http://wellnessmama.com/3745/is-salt-healthy/ Definately try and get enough magnesium. I take 600mg of Magnesium Glycinate a day. It's easier to absorb than magnesium citrate (natural calm). I can only take half the reccomended dose of 375mg of natural calm before I get diarrhea, but I can take 600mg of Magnesium glycinate without any diarrhea. Calcium is also essential for proper nerve function. Most people get plenty of potassium because it's in almost everything. Quote "When I can no more stir my soul to move, and life is but the ashes of a fire; When I can but remember that my heart once used to live and love, long and aspire - O be thou then the first, the one thou art; Be thou the calling before all answering love, and in me wake hope, fear, boundless desire." - George MacDonald Link to comment
