UltanBoyd
What is your Quest? To reduce my waistline to 36" and below in order to reduce my risk of diabetes! Starting at 42" Level 1: The Sewers Giant Rats: Gym 3 times a week with a plan of action before going in. A: 3 times a week with plans of action B: Three times a week with vague plan C: twice a week with plan of action or 3 times a week with no plan F: Everything else! +1 Str, +1 Dex, +1 Sta, Con +1 Kobold: Run 3km. Ran 1km on Monday and was pretty cream crackered. Aim to run twice a week increasing 500m a week. That leaves a week over for setback/mopup and the like. A: 3km in week 5. B: 3km in Week 6 C: 2.5km. +2 Sta, +1 Dex Gnoll: Current Deadlift maximum (though I think I could have done more) is 90kg, Squat max is 80kg. Let's get to 130kg DL and 100 kg Squat with good form!A: 130kg DL, 100kg Squat B: One goal reached, increase in weight in other. C: One goal reached, no increase in other OR reasonable increase in both DL&S. +3 Str Life Quest: I need to settle down before I can really put a life quest. Things are in flux at the moment. Side Quest: What's that first level adventurer's aren't allowed side quests. Must I quote Zach de la Rocha's closing statements from Killing in the Name Of? I'M A REBEL! I'm also an archer and archery is number two reason changing my life and number one reason for strength training. I will be shooting once or twice a week regardless of this being a goal on here or not so screw it, it's being a goal and if that makes me uneligable for anything because I broke the rules so be it. Yeah REBEL! I will achieve 3 second class barebow classified scores and thus achieve a second class and third class badge. I will also score one first class score as per GNAS classifications.+2 Dex, +1 Sta, +1 Wis, +1 Cha. (2 Dexterity= +1 to accuracy, Stamina as First class requires more arrows at further distances and Wisdom because I'll be clear that I can compete in this sport even after 5 years away and embaressingly being unable to pull my main bow! =+1 cha? Archery is a good sport to chat behind the line to people. Been back for a month or two and starting to get to know people. It's good!) Does the side quest add anything to my main test? A hell of a lot of walking, working shoulder muscles for upto 24 sets of 6 reps at 45lb-ish? Does something! This week I probably wont get to shoot as the day I could I'll be gymming so even before the challenge starts I know this is an optional and it wont get in the way of the main quests. Blaidd
Welcome Ultanboyd. Great looking goals and i'm sure you're going to smash them. Just a note on side quests: the reason we recommend that level 1 and 2 don't do side quests just yet, is because we have found that some get overwhelmed by the challenges while they're still learning the ropes of their own new found strength, endurance, flexibility, diet etc. I, personally, am not going to stop you from doing them, but please remember to drop it the second you feel you're being distracted from your main goals. Your side quest actually looks like it should be your main quest, and i am sure it will be one day Good luck with your quest xx Half Faerie (Sidhe) Scout | Black Belt Kitchen Ninja "A positive attitude will not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort" - Herm Albright You're welcome to skype me (audriwolf) too but let me know who you are My challenge Link to comment

"giant rats" haha, yes we have all done the "clean the rats out of the sewer/cellar/basement" quest so many times and here we are doing it again Very cool that you are into archery! It's something I've always been interested in and never got started. Perhaps in the future I shall have to give it a go. I think I'm going to stop wishing people good luck because there really isn't any luck involved in our reaching our goals, just hard work. I definitely wish you the best though!! Waistline down, return to archery and be able to do a run on the monkey bars. However we only had one 'qvest'. Last week I didn't get to Archery bar the Sunday because of a back twinge I thought best to rest and this week I had to move a gym session to help a friend and no longer know if I have time to shoot this week. So I am aware it's a secondary goal. Lovely to see a Sidhe about the place! Love your quest names... UltanBoyd
Uhm, so I guess by the new rules of the RPG the stats are for guidance only and I'm full on nerfed to zero. I'm thinking of doing my own levelling up at home, as if I were a Sim in Sims2 (when it's way more trouble than it's worth to go out and interact than Sims3). It's a fun idea, levelling up, without being super serious like undisclosed some are making it. UltanBoyd
I don't know the SCA. I know a few people who shoot compound bows in America who say there's little else. Obviously you have a challenge to concentrate on at the moment but don't leave it forever. In the UK it's actually quite difficult to get into archery due to the amount of coaching needed to ensure safety and waiting lists can be two years long for starter classes. sarakingdom
I'm going to need an archery-themed element for a future challenge, so I may ask you for some advice. (The Silver Nemesis Challenge. Archery can't be avoided on that one. Focusing on inverted rows is the closest I've come to a good option, short of taking up archery itself, which may or may not be practical when I get to that challenge.) Good call on your running plan, to build in some time for setback. I think some people starting out on these sorts of get-fit plans don't count on the body needing to adjust and rest when you stress it, and get discouraged when their ideal plan doesn't work out. Sometimes it really is better to give your body an extra day or two off, rather than push through the next workout on schedule and risk injury. I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever. UltanBoyd
SaraKingdomThere is no real substitute for shooting. Drawing is a rolling action with the shoulder such that your shoulder blades should pinch at the back. Have a think about that and what muscles you might be using. I find bodybuilding.com good to find specific exercises for muscle groups. My main issue is the shoulder holding the bow collapsing. It's pushing against the same weight you're pulling and it's easy to forget about. Make sure you train evenly.I don't see where you're from but in the UK new people are trained with sub 26lb bows which don't require great strength (though I've seen bulked guys try and shoot 26lb complaining that they bench X billion lbs in the gym and they struggle with it). The key is start at a comfortable weight and work up. If you want a club I suggest looking into it at the end of the challenge and for any help at all I'm here!Squeege, thanks! Ha maybe next challenge my life goal can be to convert the IDF surplus braces (Suspenders in the US) into Mal-braces! UltanBoyd
Gym 2/3 for this week. Squats and Calf Raises, hammy stretches in. Need to remember RDLs for ham's next week. Leg press was broken so missed those but mieh. Maybe catch up at the weekend RDLs and Leg Press. Then run number two I was supposed to increase to 1.5km. Boom 1.9km. Though it started to hurt in the shins. around the 1.2km part. Stopped before I took next runs glory! Weight didn't increase on squats. I felt pretty tired and a weird hip twinge I've had since paintball on Saturday was making me pull my knee in. So had to concentrating on squeezing those glutes. So some work done but who knows if progress there. Still. I am handing this challenge it's butt on a plate! Wow I'm gonna ache tomorrow!
