Tiggs86 vs the Zombie Apocalypse

My running partner bailed on me 45min before the run saying "I really would rather sleep". Well me too, but we said we were gonna do this! I ended up completing it in 38min flat, doing intervals. I discovered, however, that a 5k run is a terrible idea when one is hungover. I've never been so happy for a water bottle to suddenly appear in my hand, as much as I was when I crossed that finish line! The turn out was far more than the coaches (who put it on) thought. They even had to use scrap paper and handwrite bib numbers and take t-shirts rainchecks for people so yay smalltown folks coming together to help! My cousins boys (age 9 and 11) ran it as well and past me coming back on the trail before I even hit the half way mark, I managed to put my hand up and high-five them. Then they were watching for my to finish and came up to chat a bit; found out the 9 yo ran it in 24min 17sec! WHAT!

Summerfest was a blast, introduced my BF to the "family" and they all seemed to click. Hung out most of the day, and kinda got a mini-workout in as a tickle fest with a couple of 4yo girls turned into "catch me if you can" which became a dogpile on me, then piggyback rides, THEN a two year-old boy wanted his turn at a piggyback ride and the 4 year-olds decided it would be fantastic to sit on my feet while I walked/ jogged around with him on my back. Needless to say I was pretty darn tired by the time we were done. Went to the street dance later and worked up a pretty good sweat there as well. One slow song played all night and every song they played was awesome. I and my girlfriends danced the night away, right next to the stage (with our boyfriends on guard duty :playful: ).

Fruit/veggie-wise- I didn't make 'er I MIGHT have gotten 3 servings in? but it's hard to tell, and of course I wasn't around for my hour of crafts (I don't think I count it against me though, because I wasn't even home from 7am until who knows when (maybe 2-3am?).

Our group fitness class usually had an hour of teaching on Thursday morning with an hour class after it. That day because of time restraints we had to have the workout first (which of course I showed up late to). Being hungover and doing a bootcamp class is a special kind of evil so I understand your pain. Good on your for completing it though!

Well I spent most of today sleeping. Remembered now why I don't drink much in the first place, uggggh! Didn't get my workout in, feel too ill to do it and pretty sure I'll lose the contents of my stomach if I try. Fruit/veggie intake not done, I finally was able to eat a cold turkey sandwich at 8pm and really don't wanna push it. And I don't think I'll be doing crafts this evening, even if I could concentrate long enough for it, I'm sure it'll be poor craftsmanship. So today was a FAIL! Good thing Summerfest only comes around once a year!

Week 1 totals

Cardio- 3/3

Weights-2/3

F/V- 5/7

Crafts-3/5 (worked Mon Tues and I'm going to count creating the vodka infusion due to the time it took)

*sigh* next week will be better

So, I don't think I could complete a 5k at my best (running... I could walk it, but it'd take a while). MUCH LESS HUNGOVER. Awesome, and way to help out that kid.

I'm glad you counted the Vodka as craft time, because it totally counts. (I say that because I get the same energetic satisfaction canning jam all day or baking a gazillion cookies that I do knitting and sewing.)

Considering you were up against Summerfest last week, RAGING success on Week 1! AWESOME!

Let us know about WEEK 2 when you have a chance!

So far this week, I've gotten 2 zombie runs in and one weight training. All my veggies Monday and probably 4 servings Tuesday? Today I'm at 3 servings so far. Kinda wondering if 5 isn't too many for me? I feel like I'm forcing myself to get that last serving down (when I actually make it). Last night I worked on a quilt for my friends little girl for a little over an hour and Monday I was embroidering (and eating celery!) while I waited for my car's oil to be changed. The lady across from me was playing some game on her phone and would give me the stink eye whenever I crunched into a new piece :playful: )  Probably won't get my crafts done today, got a lot to do (and sides it's my Birthday, I should be allowed to not have to work on crafts!). I woke up this morning, went for a run then drove to the gym to complete a workout. I knew if I didn't get it done right away, it wouldn't happen, because I have 3 different dates with friends today! I also discovered that the lower body workout is A LOT harder after you've been for a run!

A couple of nice surprises for me today, I decided on a whim to check my weight at the gym and I'm 159.2! WHOOOOOO!!!! I don't think I've been below 160 for at least 7 years or more! AND my online order came in and I got size 12's kinda figuring they'd be a little tight but should be ok next summer and they fit perfect! YES!

Happy birthday!

Sooo much respect to you for running that 5K hungover. Good to see that everything's been good so far :)

About veggie goal - I guess it's good that the challenge lets you figure out what is best for you. I'm in a similar situation where I think that I set my endurance goals too high but I try not to worry. :)

Good luck with the week 2!

HOORAY!!!! So exciting that you are comfortably fitting in clothes you thought would be snug! That's such a frackin fantastic feeling. :D

And! Happy Birthday!!! Hope you had a blast. I'm really impressed you got your workout in before your trio of birthday dates began.

Maybe you need to get creative with the ways you are eating your veg? I like to do a sautee... usually it ends up being that 1/2 a cup is a serving, vs. a cup. (Ballpark.) I can eat 2 servings of sauteed spinach and garlic without even thinking about it... 3 if I put something saucy on top of it.

I think you can do it :)

Thanks guys!

I'm still really struggling with veggie and fruit intake. Though I think if I've been home more I coulda made those smoothies and at least gotten closer. Also gonna try that sauté method AgentKatia mentioned. I just get too full too fast now it seems, or I'm not hungry! Same goes for doing my crafts, I've just not been home or when I've been home I've been cleaning! *sigh*

I've gotten all of my runs in this week already (decided to go yesterday even though I had done the day before, in anticipation of night shift this weekend, also to try and work out all that lactic acid outta my butt and thighs from my lowerbody workout the day before (I could not sit down!). It helped some, at least I can sit- I just whine a little in the process :rolleyes-new:

I've done one dumbbell workout this week, was hoping to do one today, but I sliced my hand on a kitchen knife yesterday (it kinda looks like I have another "Marriage line" or something. Ha, I should so get my palm read once it's no longer obvious it's a cut! :playful:  Anyway, it's not deep but it hurts to grab something; since it's in such and awkward position I've had to MacGyver a dressing for it, that's kinda bulky in my palm. I won't be getting all of my weights in this week either it seems. Probably not a good idea to lift weights above my head when it hurts to put pressure on it...also don't think push-ups would work too well, and most important-I'm worried about the nasty germ that have GOT to be all over the dumbbell equipment (I mean the cardio equipment  gets wiped down but not the free weights!). Maybe it'll be scabbed over enough that I could try a "post-night shift/before I go to sleep" workout Sunday morning and get closer to 3 workouts in.

Well I gotta go try to nap myself for tonight, then try to figure out some other way to protect my hand from all the hospital germs (kinda thinking, I'm going to have to do a Michael Jackson and were a (exam) glove all night.)

I hide a lot of veggies in my pasta sauces, meatloaves, soups and chilis. Shredded zucchini and carrot go a long way to meeting your requirements. I do a lot of "everything but the kitchen sink" stirfries. And purse fruits, I would never get through as many classes without a trip to the vending machine without purse fruits.

Anyone who doesn't wipe their free weights and benches after doing their workout/set should be whipped in public. Hygiene!!

Ha! You should put some rhinestones on that exam glove ;) Sorry about your hand, though.

I second "hiding" veggies in other foods! I add them to kind of everything I can :P

Also, are you eating your fruit and veg first in a meal? If you're running out of room, this is a great way to trick yourself into eating those servings ;)

I am finding veg in breakfast is great. I have been surprised in the past to find out that a standard serving is often half a cup of most veg and what I would eat equals more servings than I would have counted in different veg. How are you counting your serves?

Week 2

   Cardio- 3/3

Weights- 1/3 (my bed was just too alluring after my shift!)

   F/V-2/7?

Crafts- 3/4 (five days off and my B-Day doesn't count!)

GAH! I REALLY need to get my act together! Now that the first two weeks of August have passed, it'll be better (those dang celebrations!)

USDA's "choose my plate" guides http://www.choosemyplate.gov/foodgroups/vegetables_counts_table.html   and   http://www.choosemyplate.gov/foodgroups/fruits_counts_table.html   seems like most are 1cup (except leafy greens)

Week 3 check-in!

Monday- I did A LOT of sleeping. I was canceled the last 8 hours of my shift Sunday but being on the nightshift the two day prior totally wiped me out (which is pretty typical 12hour snooze fests aren't uncommon for a couple of days post nightshift). No workouts completed, BUT I did get all my fruits and veggies in AND my 1 hour of crafts (all while watching Season 3 of Duck Dynasty).

Tuesday- Zombies RUN! workout complete-went the farthest I've ever gone during a workout 4.70KM 45.33min. Which isn't as good as that 5K I did, but it's the best I've done work-out wise. I also did over an hour of crafts, it's a lot easier do get something done when I can multi-task with watching a movie, unfortunately I can't sew and watch so embroidering dish towels was my craft of choice. I think I may have gotten 2 servings of fruit and veggies in (unless I can count the wine I had with the girls  )

Wednesday- Got up, made myself a smoothie then went to the gym. So I currently have 3 (working on 4) servings F/V in, with a serving coming with dinner. And a weight work-out complete. I was trying to decide this morning if I should really go today or continue to try and nap for my shift tonight. Well, after 45min of failed napping I decided I'd head to town, wear myself out, and get one session out of the way. Doubt I'll get crafts done today, but since it's really suppose to be my "sleep day" it doesn't count.

We'll haveta see how the rest of the week goes. I'm nights tonight and tomorrow then Friday is my "recovery sleep day" so not sure if I'll accomplish much before the weekend.

  Now OFF TO NAP!

Yeah, my mom is an RN and worked the night shift for years.  Her sleeping is so wonky.  She does smaller blocks now where she works 4 nights and then 10 off and uses the day before and after her work schedule to 'shift'.  And by 'shift' I mean 'pass out on the couch a lot'.
