Great idea about the mini challenge to finish the book, and if not, move on.

And yes, I imagine t's difficult to resist your dog's big eye treatment. Great photo! Hope your motivation comes galloping back over the hill too.

^^ Thanks, L'irlandaise! Happy to have your support.

I usually don't time myself, and I usually don't run on a track, but I did both today. I was running on this cool inner-city unpaved trail that is exactly 1 k, so I was able to to get a time for my 5 k---- 28 minutes! I feel pretty good about that. It means I'm running about a 9 minute mile, which is cool. But immediately as I was doing the calculation, my husband walked up and said, "I remember in track and field in high school, everyone was aiming for a 5 minute mile!" So I felt really good, and then I felt a little bit bad. Whatevs.

Hmmmmm...in track and field discipline, as teenagers in high school, they were AIMING for a 5 minute mile. You're doing it as an adult, because it makes you feel good. You're only proving things to yourself. Yet while you're doing it, you're inspiring people (non-runners like me) around you. I can't remember a high-school jock doing that for me...

9 minute mile!  Woot for you!  Yeah, high schoolers may aim for a 5 minute mile...but people I know have reported classmates skipping laps to get faster times, so, ya know, take that for what you will.  I think a 9 minute mile sounds really impressive :)

hello there optimus prime ! First of all..allow my jaw to hit the ground with a suitably sounding clunking sound as i gape at the 7 mile run you have notched. I mean ..wow...*stunned silence*

okay, back to the real world ..I likey your meditation goal, not only because It's a cool goal, but I'm pretty much jumping on the same bandwagon :) I mean I want some peace and quiet inside le mind...not 2 lines of some half annoying song blaring at the same time as me talking to myself in my head . Gosh that made me sound about fully insane......oh well *shrugs* i yam what i yam :P

speaking of meditation, idk if this would work for you, but once upon a time when I used to run (or rather hobble)  2 miles around the campus lake, I found the sound of my blood pounding in my ears oddly soothing - so as a transition you could maybe put in a recording of heartbeats at 60 bpm in your playlist ? also helps with the cadence o.O

That and the voices in my head screaming can't stop won't stop with every footfall when it got to the one and half mile mark ..

Annyways enough about me.. you keep up the awesome work prime !

Don't let your husband get you down!!! a 9 minute mile is awesome, the people in my high school were aiming for 8 minute mile and most didn't make it under 9, he must have been on the track team!! :P

I see your doing great!! and you ran off to the Scouts!! Very cool. I decided that I am not changing guilds till I successfully complete 2 challenges and then I'll decide where I will end up.  Scouts are awesome!!

It is so great you get to run with your dog! Those eyes are a heart melter for sure. My dog is getting to be a senior citizen and doesn't like to run too much or she pays for it afterward, poor baby! her eyes melt my will as well, I just don't take her for the long runs I used to.

Keep up the great work!!  Glad to see you keep moving onward and upward!!

@ $tarbon- yo! Hey there! Good idea with the heartbeat focus. I've been thinking about incorporating mindfulness into the runs, but havent actually tried anything yet. Something seems to switch on automatically after mile 4, where my thoughts slow down and i become focused. Ive been thinking about getting there before mile 4, but it doesnt seem easy! Btw, where's your thread this challenge?

@cb3 - its probably a good idea to wait until jumping into a new guild, but i got impatient!  Yeah, running with dogs is great. Thanks for stopping by!

@ l'irlandaise, cake, and sicil... thanks for reminding me that a 9 minute mile is relatively respectable, lol. Thanks for the pick me up.

dude...9 min mile is awesome. I used to run a 10:30 mile average over 2.5 miles. and physiologically speaking I'm supposed to be in my prime...  :hopelessness:

i'm sitting this particular challenge out in terms of not having any new goals. the old ones weren't firmly established as habits yet so I'm continuing with them ...

WEEK 1 RESULTS

This week, I was able to meet my goals without too much trouble, so I'm just writing this out as a formality.

Goal 1: Running

I ran 3 days last week, as planned. I decided to increase my mileage instead of taking a recovery week. I ran 8 miles on Saturday, and felt strong! I think I'll make this a recovery week, but if Saturday rolls around and I'm excited about distance, I'll just roll with it...

I also stretched every day after running, so I add a + added to grade.

Grade: A+

Goal 2: Bodyweights

I completed 2 days of Angry Birds, as planned.

Grade: A

Goal 3: Food Tracking

I tracked food using MFP every day last week.

I noticed about midway through the week that my carbs seemed high, despite eating low carb foods, and I realized it was because a lot of the foods pre-entered into the program contain a lot more sugar/carbs than my homemade recipes. For example, the zc jerky I make at home certainly doesn't contain 9 g carbs/oz, as the pre-entered jerky does. When i first figured out what was going on, i got kind of pissed off: "Arg! Grrrrr! I can't believe these carbs! CARBS!" Then I realized getting mad about carbs doesn't make much sense. I just have to look at the nutrition on the foods Im entering if I want the day's nutrition info to be accurate, and maybe enter my own recipes if needed.

Grade: A

Goal 4: Meditation

I made it through a 10 minute meditation everyday, as planned. Going well so far.

Grade: A

Overall grade: A

Looks like you had a great week last week! Keep up the good work!

Good luck on entering your own recipes, I had a food planner that I did that with once, took forever! You'll have to let us know how that works out!

Yeah, it is difficult. Luckily, I only have to torture myself for 10 minutes a day, so i think this goal is working out well. Also, I think it's getting easier, like I'm building a meditation muscle or something :)

Well done! Such a strong first week! Watch the dip in the second week so much of us experience! :)

Thanks, sicil. I think i know the dip. you're talking about. Not spinach!

Thanks. I think I'm happy with rough approximations,  I just have to evaluate carb content to ensure it's real. Hopefully, being lazy about putting things into mfp wont lead me to eating more packaged foods   :nightmare:

Thanks, cake. You're the best :)

Nuts-o day! Here's how it went: I woke up, ran 5 miles, then ate A LOT OF MEAT! Basically, a big pile of chicken and bacon. Time of meal: 11:30 am.

I was then prevented by various heinous and unforeseen circumstances from eating until 10 pm at night. For example, meeting ran 1 h over, carpool navigation drama, working, car trouble, no known snacks in bag.

The striking thing about the situation is that I was not hungry at all, or wasn't aware of my hunger, and didn't suffer from any of the normal low blood sugar symptoms that I generally have after 5-6 hours without food. I think it's because I'm totally fat adapted, and have some to spare... and certainly tons more coming. I'm currently feasting on rotisserie chicken and kale as I write this, so everything's great now, as you can imagine. Hectic day over.
