FluffyRin - Becoming a role model

I hate the jeans issue. Have stores never seen our super badass curves? Rude.

The worst.  Skirts: Super skinny waist and hips out to Kansas, but for some reason, Jeans: My waist forms the base of a triangle defined by my knees and my hips.  Clothing manufacturers baffle me.

Very nice quest!  It's a really exciting time and I wish the both of you the best of luck.  Go pre-mama!

Thanks BT!  It's pretty comparable to last quest, but I might as well keep pushing forward with what works.  Also - I'm on the hunt for a 5K mid/end of September.  Yay training!

Great Quest! It may be a comparable quest to the last time in terms of actions, but what a world of difference in motivation and emotional resonance... Cheering you on to mamahood (pre- and beyond) greatness!!!

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity:

but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

~T. E. Lawrence

Thank you!  Yes - the actions are similar, but I still struggle with those habits, so I want to make sure they are rock solid for the future.  :)  I appreciate the extra support!

Great Quest! Mamahood should make for some serious motivation.  Good Luck!

Thanks!  It's an exciting time.  :)

Week 1 / Day 1 Summary:

Mission 1 Strong (1/5): Got out and did a 2 mile run (19:42).  I did this run with one of my mutts - she's a sprinter, so there was a lot of runfast / walk going on with this one.  But it felt good to get out with her - she's been really antsy lately and basically conked out the minute we got back.   :)

Mission 2 Healthy (1/7): Tracking complete.  Edit: Went back because I forgot that I drank milk with dinner last night.

Total Calories: 1717  1897

Protein: 79g  91g

Fat: 60g  69g

Carbs: 214g  231g

Mission 3 Good Behavior (2/14): Did both morning and bedtime routines.

Supplemental Budgeting: No progress yet.

In other news, I did manage to get the rest of my veggie prep done last night, so I have a huge green leafy salad for today.  I need to start looking closer at my future meals to make sure I'm getting sufficient protein.  91g is a lot lower than I thought I was getting.  I'm hoping that having dinner leftovers for lunch will help that improve (my lunch yesterday only had 14g of protein - bad Erin).  I'm not a huge fan of eggs, but I might need to start busting them out for breakfast too.  We'll see how the rest of the week goes.

I would have been worn out after that run as well.  Way to come out of the gates strong.

Haha!  Thanks!

great work on wearing out your pup  - I'm sure she appreciated It as much as you.

argg to trying to get enough protein in - I find its always hard, as like you I don't really love eggs for breakfast. I generally have to hide them in something.

Yeah - I'm going to have to make a much more concerted effort I think.  But that's why I'm working on tracking this challenge!  To see where I need to improve.  :)

Awesome job out of the gates!

Thanks HOD!

Week 1 / Day 2 Summary:

Mission 1 Strong (2/5): Did a bit of bodywork training.  It was a bit chaotic because I was trying to bake a birthday cake for my husband and it cooked way faster than I had anticipated.  Resulted in my workout getting cut a little short.  But it felt good to be doing strength again!

Air Squats x 20 / Incline Push-ups (3rd stair) x 15 - 3 rounds

Russian Deadlifts x 10 / Dumbbell Rows (15lb) x 20 - 1 round

Mission 2 Healthy (1/7): Tracking complete.

Total Calories: 2399 - really high compared to normal, but 600 of that was cake.  Yay birthdays!

Protein: 105g

Fat: 91g

Carbs: 278g (chocolate cake totally did me in here)

Mission 3 Good Behavior (2/14): Did both morning and bedtime routines.  Need to find a different sunscreen for my face, though.  I think just using regular sunscreen is starting to make my skin irritated.

Supplemental Budgeting: No progress yet, but totally inspired by Jess.  So I have big plans here!  :)

I've also been trying to keep up with my cleaning habit from last challenge.  The last two days haven't been great and my kitchen is really showing it.  Tonight I plan to get things whipped back into shape there so that it isn't a disaster area when we leave for the lake this weekend!

It sounds silly but to help with our budget supplementation I got on Care.com and signed up to be a dog walker. At any given time I have 3-5 clients, and I am getting a lot of good walks in, too!

Mr Ham and I keep a written budget, the kind Dave Ramsey recommends so that every dollar has a name. It's hard and we don't do it perfectly, but it's helping a lot!

Interesting!  I'll have to keep that idea in mind in case we need it down the road...  I'm not quite so worried about increasing the amount coming in - we just need to lock down the amount going out.  We're both pretty lax spenders and we have been lucky enough to get away without really budgeting ourselves for a while now.  With the potential for looming daycare/medical/generic kids are expensive costs looming on the horizon, we're both anxious to get back into our squirrel mode with the dollars we have.

On the sunscreen, my wife has used some makeup in the past that was part sunscreen.  I don't know if you have tried any.  I am in the same boat with you on budgeting.  This Friday, our church has "Parents Night Out" and I have convinced my wife that we need to start working on the budget again if we want to take the kids to DisneyWorld next summer.  I think both of us would rather pull teeth out than budget, but it needs to be done.

I like cake too, too bad it counts on the log.

Hmm... that is a good idea re: makeup. I'm off to investigate!

And yes.  Budgeting is no fun, but it's one of the things that we can kinda nerd out over together.  And we both get a serious case of the "squees" whenever we hit a major payoff on one of our debt items.  We just hit a major case of now-we-can-afford-it-itis and need to get back on the save-EVERYTHING boat.

I hear you on the sunscreen thing.  I said that this summer I was going to be really good and wear sunscreen everyday.  Didn't happen.  Unfortunately I seem to break out everytime I use the sunscreen.  My biggest problem is that I refuse to use any of the standard sunscreens, as I reckon they're worse for you than the actual sun, I finally found a sunscreen I was happy to use, only 7 natural ingredients, but now I find I can't wear it on my face everyday so I'm back to square one.  I'm one step away from buying some titanium dioxide, mixing it with coconut oil (my moisturizer of choice) and just using that, my only problem with that issue is I'll end up looking like a ghost.

Good luck on the budgeting.  I find I do the same thing, I realize that the bank account is looking pretty good so I let myself off the leash a little bit, then realize that I've gone a bit overboard and have to go back to being good.

It's all about playing a good defense! I'm a huge believer in automation--set up your accounts (or create a new account) so the money goes to savings before you even see it (and make it more than you think you can save--if you don't see it, you can save it).

Yeah - unfortunately for me, with a history of melanoma in my family and my might-as-well-be-a-ginger skin, sunscreen is pretty much mandatory.  Now to find something that isn't completely terrible for me...  :-/

I hear you girl. I am right there with you!

It's a little overwhelming.  And more than a little annoying that day cares don't post even ballpark rates on their sites.  My Planny McPlannerson side cringes with the unknown...

Most definitely!  We do have a couple of auto transfers that have been set up.  We just need to reassess.  One thing I've learned - budget can never be static.  :)

Ah yes, budgeting.  I like to spend and my wife likes to save  :playful:.  I need to jump to my wife's boat for a while.  Good luck on saving!  I'm horrible at it.

lol.  Luckily, we both tend to be on the same page as far as the spending wagon goes.  I think our biggest arguments come in the quality vs. cost arena.  I'm more than happy to spend more for something I will love for a long time, whereas husband think that if a pair of pants costs more than $12 we're being ripped off.  :)
