Thanks everybody. So some basic information about my new Guard career.

I'm going to be a 92G or a Food Specialist, basically a Cook, as an E-2. I ship out for Basic on January 21st but until then the Guard is going to start paying me and sending me to drills to teach me some of the basics (seriously that extra cash will help out so much). I barely got in on my weight, so going to have to really try and lose 24 pounds over the next 5-ish months.

Still it feel pretty damn good to finally have reached my goal. A year and a half work finally paid off.

But decided to take a rest day today and work out tomorrow. Next week I'm switching my schedule so that Monday and Friday will be rest days that way on weeks I have drill I'll have a rest day both before and afterwards. Studied a bit of math today, tomorrow I'm going to start studying ranks and insignia for them. That way I know who I need to salute and what to refer to them as.

Still I'm really freaking stoked.

Wow! Congratulations! You are right to be proud! =D

So your next challenges will be about your new job requirements? 24 pounds in 5 months seems like a realistic goal to me!

Do we get a pic when you get your uniform?

I'll post a picture as soon as I get a uniform.

Thanks. :D

I think the focus will still be on getting to the point where I can meet the physical standards at least for the next challenge. I figure weight loss will happen as a result and after that I can make it my priority,

Also thanks you Kishi and Terosx! I'll try to slip in as many healthy things as I can. :D

Alright so quick update. Got my last cardio and strength session in this week. I'm going to have to step things up a bit though, not sure how but I am thinking working in an morning jog would be a good idea.

Studying I missed on Thursday. My boss needed me to stay an extra two hours after my shit to close, happy to do but unfortunately that was when I had planned on studying. Still things could be worse. Also been eating healthy all week so far.

I don't know much about convict conditioning, or if you do those exercises on different days than running, but have you considered circuit training? That will combine your cardio and bodyweight conditioning in the same workout. For example, run 1/4 mile at goal time, do 10 pushups, run 1/4 mile, do 10 situps, and alternate different bodyweight exercises until you hit your goal distance, be it 1.5, 2, 2.5 miles.

If you already do something like this then disregard.

I don't actually but it might be something to consider. I don't think it would work well with my actual strength training as the exercises are intended to be really high reps, but I may be able to add an extra workout seeing as I have an extra one hanging around.

So quick update. Wasn't able to eat well today, food they provided wasn't exactly good for you, but I did get my strength in yesterday and my cardio in today.

Plus side though, I'm now officially a member of the National Guard. So yes, damn exciting.

Alright so quick update. Everything is all set. Been eating well, today was a rest day, studied, and was generally awesome. Last weeks review is coming up.

I need to keep track of what I am actually studying. So today it was reading the end of The Power of Habit, pretty good over all. Yesterday was all sorts of math goodness and before that was US History so hopefully I can start a pattern here. Tomorrow's subject matter: Science, sweet sexy science.

Running for Fourth Week

Running is still tedious but I am improving. I am beginning to notice more boredom then actual tiredness in the beginnings of my runs things that make me not want to do it. It's more a problem of the fact that tablet in backpack while running don't mix, so my runs are pretty silent and devoid of entertainment. Still I am doing them which is awesome.

I think I need to possibly vary my routes a bit, as well as find a way to entertain myself. Imagination will be key here I think.

Convict Conditioning for Fourth Week

Making steady progress, now at level 2 for everything and level three on squats and push-ups. I've noticed that it is pretty nice doing these things. As the book mentions I'm never really "struggling" to do exercises, I may be pushing myself but I never have pain or any massive fatigue afterwards. Heck the most annoying thing is the walk to the gym.

Keep Eating Right

Actually pretty easy. I like healthy food and even when I'm stuck at work there are healthy alternatives, not the tastiest or most varied mind you but still pretty good. So doing well here. On top of that I have been trying more varied recipes lately (such as maple baked beans) that are pretty damn tasty and get me cooking experience.

Studying for Third Week

I have slipped up here and there but that's usually a result of having a night where I am exhausted and wouldn't be any good studying anyways. Still I do need to focus on making sure that I get my studying in, even if it means waking up early to get it in before hand. Also I need to work on a set schedule, still random studying is better then none.

Looks like everything is lining up nicely for you, TM!  Congrats on making it into Basic!  You'll have no problems losing those 24 pounds in 5 months I'm sure, not with all the hard work you've been putting in.  Keep it up!

Thanks guys. It's been really awesome to finally see all the work pay off. Now I just gotta keep at it for a little longer and lose a bit more to make sure I do well.

Alright so eating went well today, I ate mostly rice and the chicken I made last night. Studying tonight was reading the original Peter Pan, which so far is pretty good even if the language is making me want to chase my tail.

Workout today was Convict Conditioning with a twist. I decided to take Albeus' suggestion and add some running to the mix. Basically ran a quarter of a mile at 8 mph before my workout, between exercises, and after all of them were done. Worked up quite a sweat but wasn't actually tired after any of it, more invigorated.

Just got back from drill a little while ago and loved it.

Food wise I did well, gave away all the crap in my MRE lunches to other recruits and passed up the bad stuff at dinner and breakfast. PT only happened on Saturday, it was actually pretty light considering what I usually do for a workout. Going to count it as a substitute Convict Conditioning workout and did some extra cardio when I got home so workouts are all set. Thursday I skipped my workout because I was utterly exhausted, shouldn't have done it but that was on me.

Studying, good lord. Considering all I learned over the past few days I'm going to say I got that covered.

Week wrap up will come tomorrow and I'll respond to comments then. Now off to the bed!

Man, looks like the running bug done gone bit the Monastery. Good stuff, though. Looks like you're moving with a purpose, and you're splitting up strength work into it. You'll get a lot of benefit that way. Keep moving!

Yeah no kidding, everyone seems to be running. Eventually we'll all be like Bruce Lee and his five minute mile.

So much win here.  Keep it up!

You killed week four! Two more to go!

Thanks guys. Hoping that the final stretch goes as well as the rest of the challenge.

Thanks. So far no one has had complaints about the MREs so hopefully that will stay true. Plus if I eat them I have a nice way to measure all my calories.

So update for today and yesterday. Both days went well diet and study wise, been focusing on math a lot. Yesterday was a rest day but today is Convict Conditioning which should be pretty fun, especially with the running added. Otherwise nothing new to report.
