1: Whole30: This has been going very well, I've had a bunch of cravings, I really miss milk in my cup of tea and cheese most of all. Chocolate as well but to a much lesser extent which surprises me. I've cooked some pretty good meals: Roast chicken, marinaded pork loin, tasty beef mince stuff. I've also made some pretty boring salads I think I need to change up a bit so I don't get bored. I've been feeling really tired this last week and occasionally head aches but nothing as bad as the website suggested I might get. I think this is because my diet was fairly primal any way.

I hadn't really been out the house to this made resisting temptation easy. Last night was a real test though as I went to a house warming party, I took my sparkling water, lemon and a lime and took a box of strawberries. I was pretty happy because there was a lot of veg and fruit nibbles, carrot sticks, grapes and cherry tomatoes, so it was easier to pass on the crisps. Though at one point cupcakes came out and everybody took one but me they looked and smelled good, I just took a deep breath ate some more carrot sticks so that is a win for me!

Freaking awesome job avoiding the cupcake.  I know how hard it is to pass those up!  I think I have been doing good on the Whole 30 so far too.

My DOMS was pretty bad this week too, though it seems that Saturday was my magic recovery day.  It hasn't been that bad.  I hope this means next week it will be good.

Great job so far! You're really kicking arse!

Thanks Welkin! I just hope I can keep it up for 5 more weeks! You seem to be doing really well yourself will nip over and take a look at your thread shortly!

Doing great so far! And I'm sure it will continue, you have excellent goals and motivation. :)

It took me a moment with the courgette as well but I had guessed. A dear friend of mine is English so I'm quite used to the different words. It's entertaining to watch us when we really get going.

Loving the story, this is so reminding me of the comics for video game logic! We are being attacked, lock all the gates with puzzles, leave random weapons and coins through out the place. ;)

Thank you Arilian! *royal fist bump* I bet it must be interesting with the word differences, corriander and cilantro is one that I think off as well. Also heard friends from US call Oregano, 'Origa-no' instead of 'Ori-gano' and basil, BAY-sil instead of Ba-sil. My brain it melts..................

I thought I'd try to keep the story up, glad people are enjoying it!

Thanks Tateman, it was a little difficult with the scent of chocolate wafting under my nose as I passed the tray along, but carrot sticks came to me rescue. There was no pressure from them though just my inner awkward feelings. My friend commended me on giving up drinking for a while and said she wished she could do it, my boyfriend seems to be a bit proud of me for doing this without actually saying it so that it really cool.

You and I are totally going to rock our whole 30 you seem to be doing really well! Yeah hoping DOMS don't take over my week this time, I ended up being pretty sore for 3-4 days last week! I think maybe I could have been a bit dehydrated though!

Well I can still drink tea and coffee just no milk, though I can use coconut milk if I really want though it is a bit expensive. I've just been drinking rooibos instead and I already used to drink my coffee black so it could be worse. I still miss it most though!

Haha, yeah the deep south accent is great fun too. Canadians typically have the same accent as you would find on american TV, it still amuses the heck out of me when we start hearing that Austriallian actors do a better accent than some american actors.

Looks like you're doing really well! I think I'm going to have to cut the cheese out again, as I find myself reaching for it to snack on instead of veg... I only added it back in because I was struggling to get enough calories on a daily basis, but obviously need to have a rethink! I must admit, I'm tempted to try the whole30, but don't think now is the right time (we're going away for a week soon, and I have no idea what the available food will be like - although I've let them know that I don't eat anything with gluten in, their first response was 'we'll get gluten-free stuff in for you' ARGGGGG) Hope week two is as good as week one for you!

You seem to do well, Leeroy! I'm impressed with your Whole 30, keep going and soon it'll be the day when you will have done the challenge :) Rock on!

Ah, so happy to hear you are doing well!!  The Whole30 is totally worth it if you can get past the first two weeks!  I did something similar the last challenge - but I wasn't strickly Whole.  I knew there would be times where I couldn't eat well, so I did have the occassions when I would eat unclean, but that was limited.  I can probably count on my two hands the times I didn't.  My body loved it...and now craves coconut milk and coconut butter! (which I hear is also yum in coffee) ;)

My worry is that I will lose momentum, but I do feel good on hitting all my goals in Week 1. I miss cheese a lot, but it sound good that you are thinking of cutting it back to make sure you eat more veg. I guess you will get my full report at the end of the challenge but so far it has made it easy to say no to thinks I'd generally be tempted to, though it says around Day 10-11 your body tried to drive you back to your old habits so hopefully I will hold out! I am sorry to hear about the thing you are going away to and not knowing what the food will be like, you thinking it's probably going to be lots of freefrom bread and stuff? I hope it isn't to bad!

Hey Ensi, thanks for coming by! Thanks very much I am happy with what I've been able to do so far, just hope I can keep it up!

Violet <3 thanks for stopping by! I had completely forgotten about your Whole30-ish thing you did last challenge, I will go back and remind myself! I think I can do it, I just have to stick to my guns when it comes to seeing friends and things. Yeah, I think I had a week or so last challenge where I really struggled and made some poor food choices though better than a month or so earlier so I like having the restriction of The Whole 30 right now and I seriously think I am in need of it.

Thanks again for stopping by! x

Sounds like you had a great first week. I'm loving the story, I'm glad you decided to keep it up.

Hey Dorothy! Thanks, yes I am happy with how things have gone! Glad you are enjoying the story x

Just read through your thread.  Your goals sound great and I LOVE the way describe your journey through your Castle, taking on your challenges.  I sympathize with how tough it is to cut out dairy & cheese.  I have the added challenge of a three year old daughter that lives on dairy and pasta (like most 3 yr olds) so I can't just remove it from the house.  It taunts me so!  Also major WOOT! for passing on the cupcakes!!  Keep up the good work!

I need to check out this whole 30 thing, if for no other reason than I have no clue what it is.  If it means I can't eat cheese though, forget it!

Primal all the way for me for that exact reason!

Sounds like you're going great though, I still haven't tried the cauli rice.  I'm so lazy!

Hey there Joe, thanks for stopping by! Glad you like the story of my challenge, they are fun to write! Yeah, it is a bit of a pain to give it up but it is only for a month, I just have to hope that I don't have any problems adding it back it. Yeah my boyfriend is still eating eat so it is still in the house, i am getting him to eat it all soon though!

Yeah I started on Primal for the same reason, I love cheese, but this is only for 30 days and then I can reintroduce everything I want to eat one by one. Dairy is first, I am going to have my cup of tea with milk on day 31! Here is the website here: http://whole9life.com/ for the the Whole30 if you want to read more!

Oh man, I am so lazy as well, I usually just have a big bowl of chilli on it's own!

A belated thanks for sharing your spreadsheet! I love that you are tracking the physical / emotional responses as well. Is that part of the Whole 30, or just for your own reference?

Well, GREAT JOB on Week One!!!! I'm super impressed with your cupcake resistance. (Ha, that should be an Acountabilibuddies group: The Cupcake Resistance.) And for no milk in tea. Hooray!!

Good luck getting through days 10 and 11 tomorrow and Thursday! Keep us posted!!!

Generally had a good but tiring day, worked out had my physio class, played Skyrim went to my gardening course. However when I suddenly has a small melt down when I got home I started stressing out about job stuff mostly and how I feel a bit stuck in my life at the moment. I have job seekers tomorrow and though I know it will be fine it feels like I have a lot to do when I already have a job. Finally I really want to socialise a bit more and see my friends who I feel a bit isolated from but I feel a bit worried about awkward food stuff. I am really OK now, I calmed down quickly but for a few minutes I waa all AHHHH.

Hey Katia, it is mostly for my own reference though now I think about it they do recommend journalling, I guess it will just be useful for others as well to see how they might react to it, if they are like me and already eat fairly primal/paleo.

Thanks again! It is fortunate that chocolate cupcakes tend to be pretty disappointing, chocolate > chocolate cake! I think there is one that is called We Are Not Cookie Monsters, which is pretty great!

Melt downs aren't any fun, I hope you good and you go out and meet some of your friends. A lot of people are really understanding about food differences. Check out menu's before you go out and recommend a couple of places that have items you can eat. Or customize a dish

Stress is a tough thing to deal with, I'm stuck with it all the time, to be honest I feel like I'm trying to pack too many different things into too little time and not just with this challenge. Things start to slip and the stress just builds, motivation falters. Congrats to you for getting over that hump though!

Thanks everyone, I am feeling much better now today is over. I spent a lot of today feeling really anxious, really tired as well, I have been sleeping so badly. I think my anit-depressants are still not quite settled down and with the change in diet as well, I also  found out I had started what I call "Special lady time" today, that will be part of why I felt poo. This is the time when I usually ply myself with blankets, chocolate and tea for a few days, my body must be stressed out and thinking "Where is the sugar, baby?" To which I say "NO, you will have steak and salad and shut the hell up!"

My boyfriend sorted out the food and then we watched The Secret Life of Cats Documentary, which I recommend! It improved my mood a lot. I really love Cats, though I don't have any pets myself. I think I shall be off to bed early!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has to tell herself off for having bad thoughts!!  :)

I think the weather also effects my mood.  The rain yesterday was a complete downer, I felt so lethargic all day!!  I know I moaned alot about how freaking hot it was, but "come back heat wave - all is forgiven!".

I hope TOM visiting doesn't mess up your mood/eating/exercise.  I always work through his visit, it actually makes me feel much better!

xx

haha so awesome.  Sometimes that is the stuff we have to tell our selves!

Totally, I think part of my body craving sugar it was hunger I was a bit disorganised with shopping this week and I ran out of protein sources at home. My boyfriend made me steak and I felt a lot better.

I don't want to know about the secret lives my cats lead, knowing what they do when I'm home scares me some days! ;)

Haha, yes it was fascinating what most owners thought of their cats was completely different to what they thought happened when they went out of the cat flaps. Lots of cute Cats though!

Yeah, I am always telling myself off!

We have still been having some sunny-ish days here in Edinburgh so the lethargy hasn't quite hit me, but when the weather is grey and rubbish it definitely effects me as well.

Haha, yeah TOM is a jerk! I've felt pretty low energy so I decided to wait until tomorrow for my workout and also my body is still wanting chocolate these last couple of days.

I have a lot of respect for anyone doing the Whole 30 and it sounds like you are kicking your cravings butts. Dealing with our cravings can be a hard thing to do and I'm happy to hear you are doing so well.

Sub'ing so I can cheer you on and hear about all your triumphs.
