In Which There Is A Wedding And It Is Not Mouse's

The Mouse

Sounds like you are making an awesome comeback, Mouse. Keep it up, I really admire how well you are handling everything. Way better than I did last challenge. I envy you being able to go keto and fix hormone balances. I'm struggling so hard to fix my leptin, I might have to steal a few pages from your book!

Hey Mouse! I've been reading through your challenge and you've got nothing but loads of support, hugs and warm fuzzies coming your way from me. :) I'm happy that you're feeling better! There are so many variables when it comes to our bodies, it's nearly impossible sometimes to pinpoint all the internal (and external) facotrs that could be going wrong... it sounds to me like you've got a really good handle on it, though!

Ahh, it's so nice to see you posting again. :)

I'm extremely glad you figured out your stomach issues! Malitol can really mess with you- I try not to have too much protein powder because of it. I get in the habit at work of drinking protein drinks because I will get so busy and not be able to sit down and have a proper meal. It definately beats fasting with all the vitamins and protein, but sometimes when I have them too often my stomach will churn like that of which you discribe. :/    No bueno.

Also, congrats on your job switch!  Always exciting! :)

Keep it up, sweet Mouse.

MASSIVE UPDATE + RESPONSES

The end of last week as a little hectic as it was the last days of work, but I'll be doing a massive update, then responding to everyone's wonderful encouragement.

Iron Bar

STR 0/10 - sprained my wrist mildly somehow, and while I may be able to squat, the boy's been quite against it what with my tendency to hurt myself. Alas, DL and Bench are definitely out of the question until the wrist can stand being at an angle and having force applied to it. It would hurt to drop that thing on me.

Karate - 3/8 - most likely where I sprained my wrist. Unless I did that in my sleep.

Cardio - 0/11

I still have to redo my goals, as I haven't yet re-calculated them based off that week-long novena two weeks ago. But I'm excited to announce more progress in the dojo! I'm finally getting the hang of "snapping" my kicks and punches and keeping relaxed until the last second. I also keep getting compliments from my classmates about how good I look when I move. It really makes me feel good. :3

Fruit of Keto

WEDNESDAY (DAY 9)

- 1394 cal

- 101g fat

- 40g carbs (2/3 sugar alcohols, so effective carbs are lower than that)

- 84g protein

Breakfast: Egg + Manchego Cheese

Lunch: 1tbsp Balsamic Vinegarette w/ 1.5c Spinach, 90g Feta Cheese and 2 mini burgers

Dinner: 1/2 Chicken Breast, 1/4c steamed green beans, 2 small bunches cauliflower, 2 carrots

Snacks: 1 cup no sugar added pudding, 5 raspberries (darn container was just about rotten), 22pc no-sugar added chocolate covered almonds, 1 serving Not Cake

This is when I learned that, no matter what I do, malitol is not good for me. :(

THURSDAY (DAY 10)

- 1675cal

- 123g fat

- 35g carbs

- 109g protein

Breakfast: 1.5 Egg, 1oz manchego, 30g brie

(Slept Through Lunch)

Dinner: 4oz pork chop glazed in approx 1/2tsp brown sugar, 2 carrots and 1/4 steamed green beans

Snacks: Not Cake, 1 avocado, 37.5g cashews, 100g haloumi cheese, 1 turkey smokie, 1 cup pudding

Had a half day at work due to the boy's eye surgery, so I went over to his house to make sure he didn't do anything stupid, like put his contacts in after surgery. And we ended up napping half the day away - good news, his eye improved greatly during the rest; bad news, I slept through lunch.

FRIDAY (DAY 11)

- 1551 cal

- 67g fat

- 144g carbs (today was obviously not keto, however, it wasn't unhealthy, therefore it will not be counted as a cheat)

Breakfast: 66g oatmeal, 1 banana (woefully unripe), 100g cottage cheese

Lunch: ...Lindor chocolates (I had no appetite for some reason - and the boy gave me these as a present 'cause he got into an argument with me over breakfast)

Dinner: 3oz tuna sashimi, 4 pc ikura sushi, 2pc rainbow roll

Snacks: Not Cake, Coffee w/coffee creamer, 100g haloumi cheese

Okay, so aside from the chocolates, everything was okay.

And frankly, the chocolates were a huge boost in fat - 19g to 15g carbs. If I can figure out a way to make milk chocolate with splenda, then I'm all set.

SATURDAY (DAY 12)

- 1619cal

- 86g fat

- 89g carbs (again, not keto, but today was entirely whole foods)

- 115g protein

Lunch: Banana (again, woefully unripe)

Dinner: 2c spaghetti squash, 1 pound crab legs, 1/4 alfredo, 2tbsp butter

Snacks: 50g grilled haloumi cheese, 1 avocado, 1c unsweetened almond milk, 2 pudding cups, 19 lychee nuts, 1c unsweetened almond milk + 2 scoops Cookies & Cream protein powder.

Yeah, not a keto day, but everything was whole and natural.

And white sauce does not mix with spaghetti squash. At least, not in my opinion.

Thanks, Leonine! >w<

Oh, I'm not sure about really good handle. I don't pay as much attention to my nutrients as I should, but I'm slowly getting that under control. :3

Thank you for all your encouragement! *hugs*

Also, congrats on your job switch!  Always exciting!  :)

Keep it up, sweet Mouse.

ha ha, thanks, Cheechoe - then I'm sorry for the massive delay!

Oh, yeah. Malitol does a bad thing to me. Though strangely enough, while the pudding is sweetened with malitol, it doesn't bother me.

My brand of protein powder doesn't have malitol, though. Have you considered Isopure? They've got a wide range of flavours and taste quite good. :3

Thanks! I can't wait to start. Apparently they have a really good knack for finding great people, so I'm excited to see who I'll work with.

Glad to see you getting back on the horse after such a crappy first week, Mouse.  Looks like life hasn't forced you down at all, even with the evil turns you've had to deal with lately.  Everything looks awesome so far!  You're gonna rock that wedding formal wear!  :D

Thanks, Phoenix.

Ha ha, the wedding's pretty informal, but I defs wanna find something pretty! >w<

Hey, sometimes a two week vacation is what we need to kick start our habits. Frankly, it was one of the things I loved about being unemployed - all the time to go hiking and to do workouts and to just focus in on myself. And if I had a job to go back to, then all the better.

Also, healthy libido is generally a good sign of proper hormonal balance. Just sayin'. So, awesome there.

Dig in to the grit this week, girl. It can only do you good.

I think the two weeks will do me great. I had a few breakdown points during the weekend and last week and it showed me for sure that I need some time to sleep in, watch Harry Potter and do absolutely nothing.

I can understand the appeal. I plan to - aside from Monday - go to campus every day and workout. Do strength and cardio, and if there's an empty spot in the pavillion, do some work on kicking and kata. And take luxuriously long hot showers. It'll feel like training camp! >w<

Ha ha, thanks, Kishi. I'm really happy it did come back - it was concerning when it didn't and, while it didn't put a strain on my relationship, did affect me in a big way.

Oh, I shall. *cracks knuckles*

Thanks, Charissa!

We'll see how the rest of this goes - too early to call it yet, ha ha! I have faith that you can out do me. :D

And you can do eet! Fix your leptin! I'd offer some advice, but I don't know much about that subject at all, and I'm sure you're doing your research. Keep at 'er, girl! You can do eet!

Those vacations sounds like just what you need to get everything back on track! Can´t wait to see your comeback!

Focus a lot into recovering girl. Dragon-killing-giants-words don´t lift up themselves!

What?! You mean I can't magic them into mid-air?! :'(

Ha ha, but I know what you mean. Thanks, it definitely is something I need to pay attention to.

XD

You're too kind, Z!

Awesome job Mouse!

Thanks, TM! >w<

DAY 13 + DAY 14 + DAY 15 (WIP)

Iron Bar

STR 1/10

Karate 4/8

Cardio 1/11 (Though maybe 2? I did rowing and then, at the end of my long, luxurious work out, I did some sprints. Couldn't complete all 8 reps, but I did 6 and used two as extended rests)

I finally got the gym again today! Unfortunately, my wrist is still quite sore and tender when having strain placed on it, so I didn't want to risk even more downtime with pre-mature DL and Bench, so I just squatted and did two sessions of cardio today - Tuesday, Day 15. Today is also my 4th karate day. It feels great to get active again, though my wrist is annoying me greatly. I can do regular push ups, but I do have to break every now and again to make sure I don't strain the wrist too much. But it doesn't have any shooting pains any more.

Does anyone have any suggestions for arm workouts I can do without putting so much strain on my wrist?

Fruit of Keto

SUNDAY (DAY 13)

- 1668cal

- 128g fat

- 22g carbs

-87g protein

Breakfast: 100g haloumi cheese (srlsy, if your diet allows, try this stuff!), 1 avocado in 2c unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Lunch: Revised keto wrap, 1/8c Primo Traditional Pizza Sauce, 1/4 Parmesan (I was out of mozza ;A; ), 7 slices pepperoni

Dinner/Late Snack: 7tbsp whipping cream, 1 scoop Cookies and Cream IsoPure

Snacks: 1/3c Shelled Pistachios, 5 Lychee Nuts

Okay, so yeah. If you can eat Haloumi cheese - or if you've a free meal/treat coming up - I highly suggest trying it. I think it's also referred to as Queso Fresco, or Grilling Cheese. It's seriously amazingly delicious. I love to cut it up into small strips and make a plate of "cheese fries" - like, literally. Fries made of cheese. Who needs potatoes when you have crispy-on-the-outside-chewy-on-the-inside cheese fries?!

As for the keto wrap, it's a simple recipe of egg white, coconut flour, coconut oil and water. I made a bulk batch and ended up getting almost double the amount the recipe said I'd get. Either I have a small pan, or I make really thin wraps, haha! But either way, they work great for me!

MONDAY (DAY 14 - WEEK THREE, BEGIN!)

-1664cal (I totally forgot that it was Monday and to set my goal to 1600, but considering it's pretty hard for me to hit this sleeping through breakfast, no worries)

- 122g fat

- 29g carbs

- 99g protein

Lunch: Keto Wrap + 200g serving of Lou's Quick & Easy Slow Roasted Beef Au Jus (freakin' delicious! Not "whole", but really great in a pinch!)

Dinner: Butter Chicken (Taste of India Sauce) approx 1/2c, 1/2 Ear Corn on the Cob w/butter, 1/4c cauliflower (riced loosely with a fork), 1 carrot, 2oz Havarti cheese

Snacks: 2 cups Juicy Gels, 3tbsp Cream, 6tbsp cream in pop, 100g haloumi cheese

The Beef Au Jus made me have a great idea - take some extra of that delicious gravy that it comes with, and dip the haloumi cheese in it. Oh, yeah. That's happening.

TUESDAY (DAY 15)

WIP, Current as of 3:37PM MST.

- 1240cal

- 69g fat

- 20g carbs

- 113g protein

Lunch: 2 turkey smokies - cheddar, 2 keto wraps

Snacks: 1c unsweetened almond milk + 3tbsp cream + 2 scoops Cookies and Cream IsoPure, 3c Juicy Gels, 1c No Sugar Pudding

I plan to have an avocado + almond milk for a snack and then maybe some haloumi cheese and spinach later tonight. We'll see.

Blessing of Heal

I haven't yet set a date for a massage. I'm thinking next week, while I'm already volunteering for an event further down Whyte.

Outfit of Wedding

Dress, Bought!

Contacts, not yet!... I'm not so confident and I'm frankly scared of not having them, so I'm running away from this.

Make Up, not yet!... Kinda tied into having glasses - I don't really think I'll look good with glasses and make up, but I'll take an afternoon sometime this week to go to MAC and get one of the girls to give me a tutorial.

But yeah. Dress? 24$ - 40% off! Cardi? 50$. Belt? 5.25$. The expression on my cousins' faces when they see me in a lovely pink-red dress with a fashion belt? Priceless.

Plus, though the cardi is ridiculously expensive, it is fantastically comfy and I can match it really well with my - oh, what's this? - size four dress pants and medium dress shirt? Oh, yeah. I can do that.

No biggie.

Hey Mouse! Very nice update =D And lots of delicious stuff!

It´s great you are back to the gym! How are your treating your wrist? Sadly I don´t know many arm workouts that can be done properly while strained but have you considered kettlebells? Those are awesome for the arms and mostly involve pulling in a way.

Hey, guys!

Back from the wedding! Way too stuffed, but it gave me the break I needed from the diet. The wrist is feeling pretty good, but I still get twinges when I straighten it up with a bit too much force or if it's forced flat.

Okay - I'm gonna reply to the quotes and then I'll get to updating.

Man, thanks, RedAsh! >w<

Oh, they are! I didn't get around to checking if there's a lens that fits my astigmatism, but I really can't wait for laser eye surgery in about five years.

Ha ha, haloumi is amazing!

The diet is getting used to it and a crap ton of practice - and I'm still trying to figure it out, haha! - but every good dietary switch is like that, and it's worth it. Good job on wanting to give it a go! I really enjoy keto, actually, though I'm itching to give Primal more than just a passing try. I miss my fruit, ha ha!

I'm no expert, but if you have any questions or even just want to ask more about it, feel free to send me a PM!

Ha ha, thank you!

You know, a good upper body exercise that isn't going to hurt your wrists or anything... that would actually be pull ups. Or pulling type things. I don't know how well that would work given your trouble with the Deadlifts, but it might not be a bad angle to try.

I tried pull ups before the wedding, and unfortunately, they seemed to give me the same trouble as my wrist being forced flat when I got to the top of the movement. The wrist seems much less sensitive than it was, so I'll have to give it a try tomorrow. :3

The wrists have gotten plenty of rest, so I'm hoping they're gonna improve quite quick. I haven't considered kettlebells, though. Dunno if my gym stocks 'em. I'll have to check.

Thanks again!

Day Twenty-Two (is my count right?)

I figured I'd start fresh after the wedding, since I can guarantee it's pretty much wiped out anything I lost in the first three weeks. XD

Iron Bar

STR - 1/8 (I'll update the front post tomorrow)

Karate - 5/8

Cardio - 1/8

Karate today was a bit easy, but teaching the yellow belts had me resorting to making them do push ups practically the whole time.

Fruit of Keto

- 1499cal

- 125g fat

- 27g carbs

- 112g protein

Breakfast: 3 eggs, scrambled + 3 strips bacon, 3tbsp cream in black tea.

Lunch: 200g Lou's Quick & Easy Slow Roasted Beef Au Jus, 250g Broccoli and Cauliflower Steamer with Cheese

Dinner: 2 sheets nori, 1 can albacore tuna in water, 2tbsp mayo, 1c unsweetened almond milk

Snacks: 2c sugar free jello, 2pc Mini Babybel Swiss Taste, 1/4c almonds

Getting back into keto and eating less really feels great. I definitely put on a crap-ton of water weight - haven't even wanted to step back on the scale, ha ha! But it's nice - I can feel the difference in what's water weight and what isn't. It's... jiggly. Which is nice - 'cause it means I'm not quite so jiggly as before. :3

Blessings of Heal

Only thing left on this end is to book a massage. Haven't done it, yet, hopefully Friday.

Outfit of Wedding - Report!

75% complete only!

I got the dress, I got the haircut, but I didn't get the contacts. I'll have to look into those, but as I didn't meet my original goal, I'll count this as a B.

Okay, that's gotta be it for now - I need sleep, folks!

Good news - the wedding was tons of fun, I got compliments from the family and surprised my cousins with how much I lost, and I feel much more refreshed and happy. I can approach this with renewed enthusiasm. >w<

Else, you could continue resting your wrists. There must be some other area you can focus on in the mean time. =)

Just be careful with using the computer too much. That usually makes things worse for the wrists!

Ahahahaha, God, I know what you mean. I had a few bad days of eating between a cheat day, Rocky Horror, and my folks coming to visit the day after. I put on like ten pounds of water weight, and it's skewing my metrics like crazy. It'll be interesting to see what the next month or so brings as I adjust my eating to match.

I'll for sure have to upload some. Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to upload pics, and get a compilation of my progress pics together.

Just some ideas for upper body work without using wrists:  planks, feathered peacock pose, or a fly machine if you have access to one.

PS, at 5'2", I have so much sympathy for our measly calorie allowances.

0A0;;

...F-feathered peacock pose looks so badass. And tough. I hadn't thought of the fly machine - I should try that out. And I'll try the pose, too... When I've found enough padding, haha!

And hoorah! Fellow short person solidarity!!!

Oh, Rocky Horror! >w<

Yeah, it's definitely a change. I haven't stepped on a scale still, haha! But the feeling of jiggles has gone down a lot, so I'm quite happy about it.

Thanks, Kishi! I probably won't lose much weight at all this challenge - heck, if I get to 125lbs or a bit lower, I'll be really happy, ha ha! But either way I look at it, that's still 25lbs lighter than when I started this.

Day Twenty-Three!

Iron Bar

STR - 3/8 (I forgot to add my last workout to my workout from pre-wedding! I did 3, I swear!)

Karate - 5/8

Cardio - 3/8

I felt confident in my wrist, so I tried bench press today. Got up to 75lbs and did my full set without any strange feelings! I opted out of doing deadlifts, though, so I can see if I develop any pains tomorrow. If not, then Friday I'll try deadlifts and see if those give me any problems. Best to take it slow rather than my old way of just kamikaze-ing into something 'cause I think I might be better.

Also did a full 15mins of stretching today and foam rollering on my legs and back. Disappointingly, my back didn't crack. It feels like it needs to. However, my legs feel much better.

Fruit of Keto

- 1511 cal

- 68g carbs

- 112g fat

- 85g protein

** Carb count due namely to a Cliff Bar my boy gave me, but may be off count as I'm not sure if MFP counts any breads or anything in what I selected as my dinner meal **

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled, 3 slices bacon, 3tbsp coffee creamer in Bombay Chai tea (really nice combo, and I might have to do it as my morning treat)

Lunch: 1pkg Cut Broccoli & Cauliflower With Cheese Sauce (Green Giant), 1 Burger

Dinner: Regular Montana's Beef Rib, Texas Bold

Snacks: 2 Juicy Gels Cups, 1 Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch Cliff Bar

So, not keto today due to a gift Cliff Bar. But considering that I locked my key in my locker yesterday and had to get the lock cut, I think my body - or brain - needed the refuel, ha ha!...

Now I have to buy a lock.

Desperately.

No progress! *cries*

I need to book that damn massage. I hope it won't put me out too much money, though. I'm feeling poor.

SMR. SMR! Do it! It's like all the benefits with none of the costs! (Nothing against any massage professionals, of course).

Also, you're in range of getting down 25 lbs? Dude! Way to go!

SMR?...

...

Is it like torture?...

My search is turning up all sorts of strange results. Is it Skeletal Muscular Relaxation?

Yup! Technically, since January (my heaviest I remember), it'll be -30lbs. And I've got about 10-15lbs to lose left. >w<

Day Twenty-Four!

Iron Bar

STR - 3/8

Karate - 5/8

Cardio - 4/8

I didn't get a chance to do a formal cardio workout, but I did a home one. I'm still unable to do all the Tabata intervals, but I'm getting there! >w<

Fruit of Keto

Totally not keto today, but definitely under the calorie limit.

- 1355cal

- 108g carbs

- 79g fat

- 98g protein

Breakfast: 3 eggs, 3 slices bacon, 3 breakfast sausages, 1 slice bread, 1tbsp 10% cream in tea

Dinner: 5pc tuna sashimi, 3pc salmon sashimi, 1 mango

Snacks: 1 large Tim Horton's Iced Cap made with Chocolate Milk

The two "bad" snacks - bread and the Iced Cap - were caused by my parents' much-delayed departure on their anniversary trip. The first departure set back breakfast quite a lot, and I had to drive them around the city to pick things up, so I figured it best to eat something for safety and unfortunately the only thing on hand was a piece of bread they brought with 'em. The Iced Cap was because I was forced to delay my dinner plans to drive halfway between cities to give them their passports. *grumbles*

Still no progress.

SMR is Self-Myofascial Release, although I could see how it would be called Skeletal Muscular Relaxation as well. It's basically digging into the sore spots of your muscles with a foam roller or a lacrosse ball and letting the pressure work the kinks out of the muscle. Everyone I've tried it with has reported spectacular results, to say nothing of how it's helped me.

Don't let one bad day get you down! Get back up and on it!

Ah, I see!

I did that for physio a few times! Well, I still do it, actually. My campus gym has a foam roller that has blunted spike-like things that makes rolling on it torture, but quite nice afterwards.

Thanks, Kishi!

No formal massage, but the boy has given me quite a nice amount of back and shoulder rubs.

I think I'm finally starting to feel the rowing - it's quite nice. :3
