Roo's "OK, for real this time" challenge

Humble pie is like alcohol.  The first time you try it you're like "why the hell would anyone drink this, it's AWFUL" but then as you get used to it, it kinda grows on you, and slowly the taste becomes something you enjoy.  And pretty soon you realize that there are lots of useful applications for it, like when the apocalypse comes, you can light it on fire with a bit of cloth sticking out of a bottle and create a pretty good bomb-type weapon to ward off the waves of looters who are trying to steal your paleo apocalypse stash of canned pumpkin, coconut milk and bags of nuts, which makes you wonder why you didn't invest in more cans of salmon before the world collapsed because honestly whoever said that nuts are a great source of protein has never eaten a bite of steak amirite???  Wait, what were we discussing again?

In case of apocalypse, the bags of nuts may be better just because if you lose your can opener, you're in trouble.

Welcome back!  I'll be watching for sure.  And I'm the same way of "want to lift!" "want to run!"

And good for humble pie.  I know I'm going to get some of my own when I return to weights.

Yeah, running is always a tricky pickle for me.  I really like doing it, and it's really good for the dog.  So there's that.  But then it takes away from time under the bar, which I hate.  *sigh* 18 years from now my kids will be in college...then I'll have time to do what I want.

This is a top notch post. :)

Roo's challenge! Yippee!! A few months back I was at a gas station and there was a sign of "Roo is back." It was some confusing nonsense about a cup, but OBVIOUSLY it was a glimpse into the future!

Although my life has nowhere near the responsibilities of yours, I've been working on sustainable-length workouts for the long haul. And squats are my first lifting priority, too. So we'll do the, "When all else fails, squat" routine together (even though I know you've expanded a bit since).

Not the same cup I referenced above. But still appropriate:

Omg, how have I never thought of Just Roo It.

Yeah, or in my case - I'd pretty much always prefer a bag of nuts to salmon, because salmon is gross.  But catspaw is right - whoever said that nuts were good for protein has never eaten a steak.  Because steak > all.  In fact, just thinking about it is making me lean towards picking up some steaks on the way home and firing up the grill. :)

Just Roo It! Love it.

Welcome back Mr. Roo, and congrats on all the awesome life stuff. You'll be back at kicking all our asses (at least kicking mine) with your cleans technique  in no time.

Thanks!  We'll see how the snatching and cleaning goes tomorrow.  My guess is...rusty.

Now I want steak...

Unfortunately, steak was not had.  Mrs Roo did make up a ground turkey stuffed acorn squash thing though - that was pretty solid.  Another 2 point food day :).  I am still thinking about steak though, and it doesn't look good for tonight either.  I will not rest easy until steak is consumed...

So I finally got some new running kicks yesterday (my old ones were pushing 18 months old, and I'm sure I've obliterated the 500 miles or whatever life they say running shoes are supposed to have), and broke 'em in with a short 2 mile run.  Not sure how I feel about them.  They are the updated version of my old shoes (these - I had Kinvara 2s before), and they don't quite feel the same - like the sole is more rigid or something.  I know they aren't barefoot shoes or anything, but I always liked how my old shoes felt like there wasn't much going on down there.  These feel like they have more "shoe" to them.  Maybe they just need more breaking in *shrug*.  Also, holy shit am I slow.  2 miles in right around 20 minutes, and it was not as easy as 10 minute miles are supposed to feel.  Past experience tells me that I'll bounce back quickly here, but again...humble pie.

Today - DOMS.  So much DOMS.  Good day for a rest day.

Know what is good for DOMS and for rest days? Squats. And more squats.

Ok, you guys win.  Took my fish oil, and did some squats.  This doesn't count as a workout - just snuck downstairs to get some recovery work in while Mrs Roo was watching some crime drama (I can never tell those apart).  Also, another 2 point food day, though Mrs Roo was trying to push some wine on me.  I'm going to try for no weekday drinking this challenge, see how that goes.

Squats and Fish Oil FTW!

I definitely LOLed at the crime drama comment.  Me neither.

No idea, it had WIll from Will & Grace in it.  But seriously, I have no idea why these shows are so successful.  There's what, maybe 5 different scripts?  And these have fueled CBS's entire lineup for 30 years?  Who is watching this crap?

Criminal Minds (because you wanted so desperately to know).  When I was watching some of these this was a good one.  Very heavy/disturbing though, I don't think I could take in a marathon of it.

It was more awesome with Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya, also in Dead Like Me).  Mostly because Mandy Patinkin.

I couldn't tell you the last time I watched a crime drama though, other than making fun of about 5 minutes of a CSI episode.
