Otter's The Incredibles Challenge

Recommended Posts

My Main Quest is to do real pushups

To do this I am basing my challenges on The Incredibles!

Mr. Incredible = STRENGTH

pushups

I will practice my pushups 3xweek.  I am working on incline pushups, moving myself closer to the ground every two weeks. (currently doing pushups on my blanket box, after 2 weeks moving to the stairs, then down a stair every two weeks) Might change this to every 3 weeks.. Depends on how well I do and my form.

This is to be done separately from my workout of the day, unless there are more than 50 pushups or burpees in the workout.

Mrs. Incredile (Elastigirl) = yoga

I will do 40min of yoga each week.  This can be instead of a workout or as well as a workout and can be down in in one session or broken down.

(Not sure exactly how this will help my push up main quest, but already had it planned and didn't want to change it- it definitely won't hurt my pushups and it does work all your muscles that are used for pushups)

Violet = become invisible??

intermittant fasting

I have wanted to try this for a while, and seeing as my diet change from the last challenge failed. I wanted to see if this would work for me.

No eating before 12 - Making an exception for the first 2 weeks - can eat between 11 - 12 if needed. The only exception will be Sundays - we go for breakfast after church which usually ends up being around 12, except in September church goes back to 9:15 so breakfast will be a little earlier.  I'm on vacation the week of Aug 5 - this may or may not apply to that week. :rapture:

I am also joining the Sugar Slayers Accountabilibuddies group.

My Side Quest

Dash = run the race with perserverance

I have a goal to read the Bible by November 2013, but have been slacking.

I will read before bed Sunday - Thursday.  Extra is allowed. But the goal is based on Sunday to Thursday.

MOTIVATION

My motivation when starting all this was to be strong.  I want to be able to do and fix things around my house without thinking about it and without being sore after.

(I have no means of taking a pic and posting so writing it down will have to do)

Love the Incredibles theme! Do you get much choice of food for the church breakfast i.e. healthy options?

We go to a restaurant and I usually get bacon and eggs!  YUM!! So, yes I do get a choice

Nice theme :)  Good luck.  I almost went with intermittent fasting too this challenge.

Thank you!

So it's Wednesday and I feel like a big slacker.  Haven't worked out at all yet this week.  I feel like I am getting sick and have absolutely no motivation to do anything.  Getting out of bed and dressed up for work seems to take all I have.

But anyways....

I have read my Bible each night and have been able to adhere to the intermittant fasting.  I ate at 11:30 on Monday, but waited till 12 yesterday and it's 1:00 now where I am and I haven't eaten anything yet.

I still need to figure out my goal for the sugar slayers.  I really want to try cutting my sugar from my coffee, but don't feel I have the willpower for that yet.  Still thinking.....must decide soon!!!

Hoping to remember to take my measurements this evening for progress stats.

Hey Otter,

You got some serious goals going on here.

The bible reading: I'm following "Seeing Red " and he's doing daily devotionals and a church going side-goal, maybe you two could chat and make it more interactive for you. A few of us asked him what the passages were about and now he posts the basic meaning every time. Couldn't hurt?

I think Yoga will be great for push ups. The balance that's practiced and the focusing, it should help plenty I think.

Fasting, whoa, you are more powerful than I. Every time I think I can do intermittent fasting, I workout and end up starving from too few calories. My stomach hates it. But if it's a rest day then I suppose I could fast okay.

Thanks for the shameless plug for Sugar Slayers!

Don't worry Mate, you will pick up speed in this challenge. I know it.

Cheers,

Teri

Thanks T

I checked out SeeingRed.  I am currently about 600pages into the "So That's Why Bible", they took the Bible and put in Chronological Order and added snippets about the culture and other things that were going on at that time to better understand why they did specific things and what they would mean to the people of that day.  It's pretty cool.

ALso I workout in the evening so the IF doesn't hinder that at all. Working out in the morning doesn't work for me.

Did 20 pushups last night.  I may have to edit my goal a bit and give myself 3 weeks before moving down a step.  I want my form to be perfect before I move down.  I don't want to slack on the pushup just to get lower!

Yoga is on schedule for tonight.

IF not to bad.  I have been waking up hungry which is strange for me, but have been able to make it till 1:00 yesterday and today.  At about 10 -10:30 I start getting really hungry and I tell myself, I just have to wait till 11 and the next thing I know its 12 and I'm busy so I don't eat till 1.  Have a bit of a headache/light headed-ness today.  But I will overcome (I'm sure it will get better, if not I will adjust something :nevreness: )

Measurements:

210lbs

Chest 37.75"

Hips 41.75"

waist 40"  at smallest 36"

Right Arm 11.25          Right Wrist 5.25

Left Arm 11.25            Left Wrist 5.50

Right Leg 22               Right Calf 14.5

Left Leg 21.75            Left Calf 14.5

Not real happy with this, as I am up 9lbs and 1" almost everywhere since my Whole 30 challenge, but I have been eating like crap...this shows it!

Here's hoping the intermittant fasting works!!

When I was looking into IF, I heard from people it might be like what you are saying at first.  Eventually though I guess it gets to the point where you know you are just craving something, and actually being hungry.  I hope it works good for you as I might be trying it next challenge :)

I've read that also. I was expecting it.  I think doing the Whole 30 first helped, because now I am more aware of being hungry or just wanting to eat and craving healthy foods as opposed to eating whatever is there because I'm hungry.

Technically I'm your guinea pig -hehehe!

I that kind of book would be awesome. I love getting the 'feel' of the time/place when I'm learning about something.

Once I'm living on my own I'll try the Whole30, any tips for a future Paleo eater?

Cookups are the best thing ever. I would make a bunch of meat on the weekends and then I just had to throw together veggies to go with it.  You have to change your planning a little.   Generally we plan a meat and a starch - I started just thinking meat and veggies.  What meat am I gonna eat, what veggies can I eat with it?  When it was cooler out I made up stews and spaghetti sauce with spaghetti squash and things like that.

I that kind of book would be awesome. I love getting the 'feel' of the time/place when I'm learning about something.

It's pretty interesting.  I'm learning alot.

So far this week....The IF has gone very well and the Bible reading.  I didn't leave myself much time last night for reading, but got in some anyways.

I have only practiced my pushups 1 this week, but still have 3 days to go.  I did 20mins of yoga yesterday.  Had set my alarm early to get up and do some this morning, but after not being able to sleep, that didn't happen.

I am on vacation next week and am not sure if I will be able to check in (no internet at home).

Be fabulous everyone and kill it!!!

Internet at the trailer - WOOT!WOOT!

Week #1 breakdown

Pushups - only worked on them twice.  I think I need to get more regimented with my workouts due to not going to class.  This will allow me A) to workout more (I've been slacking) and B) to work on my pushups!

Yoga  - fit in my 40 min between 2 sessions.  Yes they were both near the end of the week, but i got it in!!

Intermittant Fasting - added a couple of disclaimers to this one during the week.  I blew it on Saturday.  I was babysitting my niece and nephew and ate the last couple of bites of my nephews breakfast wrap and a couple timbits at like 9:30am - TECHNICALLY I was on vacation.  The rest of the week went very well.

Bible Reading - Done and done.  Not much to add here.

WOOT on Bible reading!

I wouldn't count it, vacation days are siesta days :D!

I did put in a disclaimer for my vacation.....

Yesterday I feel like I ate everything.  I got up and did a quick run and some pushups. And had some breakfast at 10:30.  I figured I would go for a swim later too, but the water was FREEZING!  I will go do some laps today.  But my mom left a bunch of food and I brought food, and yesterday it just seemed like my mission was to make sure everything got eaten up.  VERY silly of me.  Will control this better today!! I WILL!!

Monday I did 30min of yoga.  I forgot how refreshing yoga can be.  And it really interesting to see all the moves i can now do because I'm stronger!! Yeah being strong!!!

Thanks guys!!

End of week 2 - where did that week go????

I did work on my pushups 3 times last week.  Also did some swimming which was really good for my arms too YA!! I'm not sure I will be able to move down on the incline like I had planned. I am definitely going to need the extra week.

Did an hour of yoga - 2 x 30min sessions.  The second one was an arm balances session.  Man it was hard.  It's depressing how weak my upper body is.

IF - not sure about this one.... I didn't wait till 12 everyday last week, but did make sure I got up and worked out or puttered a bit before I ate.  I don't think this is working for me.  I feel that I'm so hungry by the time I eat I just overeat and/or keep eating all day. This may need some tweaking or it's just not the right path for me.  Either way I will continue and see if I get any results weight/measurement wise.  At this point I'm not putting much hope in it though.

Bible reading going very well.  I even read Friday night before bed too.

Might just need a tweak to the IF or something.  Having never done it, i have no experiences or tips to offer.  Looks like you are doing ok otherwise.  Nice job.

Working on it.  This is the point of trying something new right?  Tweak it till it works or try something else. :peaceful:

This week has been a little better.  I made sure I brought a big ol'tub of cut veggies everyday to work so if I'm hungry I don't feel bad if I eat them all.

Seriously, where did the week go?! LOL

Don't get depressed about a weak upper body, work it ou! Make the change for some Badass Jessica Biel awesome arms!

J_Biel_BladeTs091.jpg

Oh! to have arms like that....one day!!  I look down at mine now and see some definition and get all excited, then I move and feel the fat flap on the back of my arms and am like "when are you gonna leave?"

This week started off well.. Monday I did a killer workout with 100 incline pushups! Woot! Then went home and dropped my cutting board on my toe (I'm pretty sure its broken) which made it difficult to do the yoga I had planned for Tuesday and PMS has got me highly un-motivated and wanting to eat all things - GUGH!!! I hate being a girl!  Why do we have to go through ALL this EVERY month? Oh right! Garden of Eden...sin...etc....BLAH!

Ok, I'll stop rambling now...

I take Cramp Bark in my water, totally gets rid of the cramps. And then a PMS tea a fellow Nerd suggested to me that gets rid of water retention. As far as the cravings, I got nothing. I still battle it when my monthly comes around. Hope this helps!

Quick update

Push ups are not where I was hoping they would be, but I'm going strong and they are getting better.  I have been really focusing on my form because really if I'm getting lower to the ground, but my form sucks, I'm not really gaing anything.

Yoga- had been very good.  I'm really enjoying it and going home to do my 2nd session making up my 40min for this week.

IF - killed it a couple times this week ....  made zucchini bread *hangs head* I know I shouldn't have, too tempting.  But anyways it was 2 days and I'm back on track now and starting to not feel so hungry all the time.

Bible reading - same old same old, definitely back into the routine which is exactly what I wanted.
