Main quest: Be like Rocky - It’s about finding out how hard I can get hit and keep moving forward; how much I can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!

I've got coaches with whom I've discussed my goals ( my Mickeys and Apollos) and people supporting my training (sparring partners). Spousal unit has become my biggest supporter (yo, spousal unit!). Basically, strength coach has awesome goals for me that involve him always saying "you'll be lifting that for reps!". My Muay Thai coach today suggested the combat athlete program to me.

Over the next year, I'll be doing the following on my quest:
Testing up in Muay Thai - comes in a few months
Fighting in fight day at the fight camp (yes, we do talk about fight camp) - not sure when yet, maybe sept
Doing a competition that involves weight (in lieu of CMC) - lifting or something else I have my eye on
GoRuck Heavy

This 6 weeks gets me on the way thusly

Just go the distance



More combos, more footwork, more endurance.
Muay Thai 3x week w full sparring 1x week. Coach says I need 5-6 weeks of good sparring to get to fight day.
Run a minimum of 2x month simply for endurance and speed. Goal is light on the feet. Only for endurance. Only same day as legs, after lifting. Limit to 3-4 mi per run.
Do footwork and bag work after every lifting session.
What's new here is sparring and footwork. I already added bag work in but I need to relax my punches.

Eat lightning and crap thunder.



Get strong. Coach has a great plan. I promised someone one time (a guy I met at Rip's seminar) that I would do whatever coach says. I am and I'm very happy. I'm making good gains.

Lift 4x week, at least one day under coach's observation.

Get my kicks back. Knee surgery sucks. I'm 8 weeks out as of today. Dr said Muay Thai would be last to come back bc of the torquing in the knee - he said it's a tough sport to go back to doing. My partner the other night said I have "shins of steel". Now that's what I'm talking about!

Get to my fighting weight.



I need to be down a few pounds to be at my fighting weight, which is also roughly the same weight I'd compete in for lifting. Coach agrees it's a good weight for me. I'd be stronger than most fighters at that weight and competitive with lifters. I'm struggling to meet calorie and macro needs. I've put muscle on (pants tight in thighs but not waist) but I also put on a few pounds with the carbs. I need to redo all of this, so back to tracking and tweaking...every day.

Workout updates

Last week PRd my DL with an awesome pull of 275 (no chalk, no straps) it felt great. Awesome lockout.

Muay Thai fake teeps to elbows. Sweet.

Sunday was 40 light squats at 150, BP work including 90%

And rack pulls which was funny bc my program said 100% for sets/reps and I thought that meant 100% of my rack deads. So I pulled over 300 a few times before coach told me it was 100% of my DL (the new one). 275 for sets/reps felt easy peasy.

Finished w a ton of light DL at only 185, which at that point felt so good.

Muay Thai today. Tons of sparring. Coach posted I looked good. I had really advanced partners including one who is fighting a match in the next couple of weeks. I got punched a lot. Lol.

Diet: did not meet calorie goal, a little low on carbs, a bit low on protein. Sigh.

Congrats on the DL PR!!  You are amazing!  Someday, I'm sure I'll DL 200lbs.  That day - is not today.  But, 275!?  Awesome!

GAH!  not the banoooookie! 

 

I was under.  :numbness:  but scraped by on protein but didn't make carbs

 

Banookies don't like me so much. I'm going to experiment w banookie before bed. 

 

But I really have trouble w snacks around my workouts.  I don't feel as strong as when I'm semi fasted.  Blerg.

Yeah, it's a lot of work but I'm so happy.  I haven't told anyone but coaches and spousal unit about goals. 

 

Fight camp is just the name of the MMA gym.  It's called Daddis Fight Camps.  BUT twice a year (or so) they host an in-house fight tourney.  You get paired up etc and you go a few rounds (in gear).  I think one of my sparring partners is doing Sept.  I'm not sure I'll have enough sparring under my belt by then.  But I'm in for sure on the next one. 

 

Paulie is Rocky's brother in law.  He's a nice enough guy and he thinks he's supportive but he's always negative and dragging people down.  He means well but he's also jealous and unhappy, so he just comes across as always negative and selfish.

Forgot:  Dr report

 

Doc is danged impressed with my recovery and is surprised I'm back to Muay Thai already.  Ha ha doc, I got people to kick and only so much time.

 

He did say the lingering aches in the lower quad and the patellar tendon were to be expected b/c I ramped activity back up so fast.  Not a problem, nothing wrong with it, he just said it will take longer to calm it down.  But he's fine with what I did and what I'm doing. 

 

He also said that lingering swollen area on the lateral side of my knee is from the barbell accident and might be permanent at this point.  *sigh*  boo.  He said b/c it's still a little tender, it might still heal up but might take several more months.  But it might not.  The good news is it's not fluid and he sees no impairment in the knee - he said sometimes that's how soft tissue permanently responds to the trauma.  He said in the long run - it will be just fine even if it always looks a little puffy.  Okay, I'll take that (but I miss having that big dent in the tissue by my knee.... ).

I will be a support person for you.  It's not a program and it's nothing really complicated but it's hard to switch.  But it's also not eat all you want.

 

I really struggle with this.  Lots of ex low carb paleo sorts over there.  BUT I'm still hanging on to paleo and whole foods as much as possible and I'm still trying to do this without much grain so it's a struggle.

WOOT for graduating from the post op doc!  A little swelling has got to be better than never ending pain and massive swelling right?!  

 

My mommy voice will always be ready to come out at a moments notice :)  I've actually had some folks in my running clinic tell me I've used the mommy voice on them LOL

I'll join in too! I don't know if I should be doing anything other than keeping my calories up without overeating, but I am trying to do that.
