nightlight
Yup usually for me too. I'm experimenting with it maybe after gym but not MMA. The problem is I don't eat usually for quite a while - urban dweller, etc. So I often don't eat until 8-9p. so I feel like I need the protein powder.same for me. i don't even make it home a half hour after working out, so the whey is a necessary evil. people say "why don't you just carry food with you?" and i kind of want to say "i already bring my lunch, and sometimes breakfast, what do you want me to do? strap a refrigerator to my back?" I often don't get home for an hour and then I have to shower (b/c just tooo damn gross after Muay thai - imagine non AC box for worst metcon ever - that's MT every day - we have puddles of sweat). Then I have to jab kitty (insulin) and prep dinner and fart around.... easily 830 p by the time I'm thinking dinner. Yeah I carry lunch and snacks now and my stupid blender bottle thing. And water..... pack mule. I hate it. I AM going the distance 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Brometheus
So I was hungry. <400 cal for breakfast. Spousal unit purchased a ton of bananas (yes, I weighed them) this weekend and they are all getting ripe. I was feeling bad about all the bananas and don't want to waste them so I brought one to work. I ate it. I regret it. Banana don't like me. BLERG! gah. So happy I ate it now and not an hour before my workout. I am now forever off the banookie. This just clinched it. boo. So I'm thinking I have 1/2 cup of sweet potatoes for lunch, I'm going to have my carb drink with my protein drink after my workout. I'm going to try that today. That all takes me to 100g for the day (including breakfast pumpkin and that evil banookie blah). I still need carbs. I'm not sure what I'll do. Need to seek advice from my peeps. The deal is I hate eating not too long before I workout but if I don't, I don't get enough carbs. AND I don't want just fructose. I might just call it a high carb day at 100g and be done with it. boooooooo.... stupid food. But I did order some new shin guards today so that made me happy. Mmmmm.... kicking people. Kicking people! YES! Don't laugh, but I use these when I need a quick carb hit after a workout: http://www.peterrabbitorganics.com/ Maybe try eating some carbs with every meal? Link to comment

cline
Last night's workout? BAM! YEAH I DID! I've had a mental issue with my BP lately b/c it got so heavy. I'm getting it up at the 90% for reps but struggling and had to do roll of shame (I was in a rack w safety bars so totally safe) on a rep on Sunday which totally pissed me off. I mean really pissed me off. So much I did a sprint to clear my mind. Yesterday was heavy shoulder day and pressing day. I went in determined to get over the mind f*ck on my BP. I HATE mental blocks. I command some shit to grow. Program called for OHP which I haven't done in at least 2 months. SQUEEEE I like OHP. Two months ago I maxed 1 rep at 85#. Yesterday, 2 x 2 at 90# AFTER 6 other heavy reps at 85! Woot woot. I can def hit 100# I know it. I feel it. BP called for 90% 2x 2 which has been a struggle and then 95% 3x 1 (gah) and then drop sets of 80% 2 x 5. WOOT! I killed it! And it went well. Really well. The first set flew up so easily. I knew it was mental. I knew it. I got all 3 at 95%. so pleased. And I had the world's worst spotter - see story in separate post. laterals - well, whatever. Upped the weight on these but I still find them hard and tedious. 3 x 15 triceps ext - same - blerg. Upped the weight on these (most I've ever done) 3 x 12 BB shrugs heavy (told to use straps) - WHAT? I LOVE these! Omg. never done these before. Program called for 185# 3 x 12 for the shrugs. So I loaded the bar and shrugged away. Nice. Felt good and a bit easy. OOPS loaded the bar at 195. LOL. So I finished out my sets at 205#. sweet. I have not added in all my foods yet but figure the beers sent me over on everything. I ate a lot of protein so we'll see. I AM going the distance 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. cline
You KNOW you have the world's worst BP spotter when this occurs: 1. He grabs the effing bar during your lift and you yell at him (really yelled - guys in the room turned to look) to get off the bar (which he did) so you can finish the rep unimpeded by his incompetence BUT then he argues with you that "the bar was going down" during the whole rest of your rep and into your rest and then you have to just tell him to stop talking and to never touch the bar. 2. He doesn't stop talking and starts yammering on and on about his box and yadda yadda guy at his box with arthritis and can't do box jumps yadda yadda and won't get cortisone shot in his knee yammer yammer yammer and you finally have to look at him and say "tell the effing pansy to get the damned shot. I've had so many who cares. Tell him to do squats and quit CF shit." that shut him up. And now you have to sit on the end of the bench and keep turning your back to him to make him stop talking. 3. THEN in the next rest period yammer yammer yammer and you actually hear part of it but you have to stop and say "wait! Did you just say you went to the store to buy GLITTER?" which is very distracting to think about. You have to sit at the end of the bench and turn your back and you mentally beg it to stop. 4. Finally on your last drop set with your hands on the bar, ready to go his effing phone is ringing in your face b/c it's in his crotch pocket. WHAT? Seriously? AND wait - he's going to answer it! ARGH. the hate the hate. He puts it back and then it rings again and he gets it out and you have to say "turn it off". the hate the hate. and yes.... this was spousal unit. AAAAAAIEEEEEEE..... kill me now. I AM going the distance 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Never. Nobody ever believes me. I usually add: especially if your partner says things like "I was a boy scout". wtf? Recently, someone I know was telling the story of his nice weekend at Cape Cod w his gf and all wonderfulness. He said "oh we went kayaking". Me: and how did that go? Him: silenced followed by "wellllll...." Me: you didn't share the damned kayak!!!
