Dirty's little challenge

Good lord, what a badass. I missed a lot of awesomeness checking out of here for a week!

 

Way to go on those runs, and the pushups. Make sure you're working at a steady pace, though! You've got 4 weeks left to rock, it'd suck to get injured from pushing too hard.

Awe shucks, you made me blush a little bit :-).

Thanks! The good thing about me is I have a really good innate sense of what my body needs and am not shy to take an extra day to just veg out and recover. Appreciate the concern though :-)

Thanks Fluffy! I just sat around my apartment cleaning, drinking tea and carb loading like a demon. Good thing about living in an Italian immigrant city is awesome pasta take out dinners lol. Up and running today though! (Literally, will post about my run after)

13th:

Groceries are definitely running out. Happy it's my day off since my breakfast consisted of a couple English muffins with peanut butter lol. That was small enough though that it didn't affect my run by making me queasy, which was nice. But the run was lacking, my fastest mile was 10 minutes but I had to take a few minutes off in my free form runs and was going at a slower pace than normal. Managed to get one circuit in and my push up app done when I got home but I think that's more than enough for the day.

Going to have a quick lunch then head down to the grocery store and pick up a few things. Looking at making homemade larabars with some dates that have been taking up space.

14th:

Didn't go to the grocery store yesterday, I went on a long date that included a beautiful bike ride before dinner and a couple more beers. Went today though and picked up the ingredients for my homemade larabars. Ended up being too thin since I had to use my blender (no food processor) so I added a package of coconut to give it more body and make it rollable. They're pretty good and I'm looking forward to using them for my run tomorrow.

Learned a big lesson that I do not like radicchio. Like at all. To the point where I can't swallow it because the bitterness makes me gag.

They're pretty much granola or snack bars that are made from 100% unprocessed ingredients. I made them as a good form of snack age for before my runs

Fellow Rebels, I need to share this with you. Why? That's a good question, I could be greedy and keep this wonderful knowledge to myself but in the spirit of Nerd Fitness that doesn't seem fair. So I will share today a recipe that will make your admirers fall ever more in love and your foes cry at their inadequacy. I give you Dirty's puttanesca.

Instead of canned tomatoes use local tomatoes you got yourself. I had two bigger tomatoes getting near the end of their lives that could only be used in a sauce. Everything else is the same and the kind of protein you choose is up to you.

The results, well they are simply *magical*. I made enough for two meals and some extra veggies. Ate both servings.

15th:

Run went well today! Felt great the entire time, did extra calf raises and ran completely though my free form runs. Did one run of my circuit and then stopped since I had to carry my groceries home and do not want to make myself too sore for my shift tomorrow.

Have a pie shell thawing on the counter as I type to make a quiche for the morning (perfect blend of protein and a load of veggies plus a little decadence since I refuse to use whole wheat crusts). Went to the butcher after work to get a pork roast for dinner tomorrow and some bone in chicken breasts to cook up to add to random meals. Will be helpful in making stirfries, sandwiches, salads or pastas. Got bone in since I want to cook it with the skin on top (dried out poultry is the worst) and the bones plus whatever meat I missed while filleting the breast off went into my kitchen sink stock container in my freezer. Any odds and ends or peels off veggies commonly used in stock or any herbs a little past their prime are added. After the container is full I submerge the entire thing with water and make a slow cooker stock. Very simple, makes a fantastic addition to any soup, risotto or stirfry you're making.

My best friends boyfriend has family that lives on a farm in the next town over. When they have a bumper crop they give extra to my best friends family and me. Brought a bag of veggies over for me ^_^

Yum!  That recipe sounds delicious and I like the cooking plans for the weekend!  I'm also a fan of your stock container idea!  I always want to make my own stock, but never feel up to the task after a mass cooking event.  That's a great idea...  Totally filing it away for future use.  :)

 I always want to make my own stock, but never feel up to the task after a mass cooking event.  That's a great idea...  Totally filing it away for future use.  :)

I know! Half the time after I make stock I'm too lazy to do anything else lol. This way is perfect and it uses up scraps that might otherwise go to waste. If you don't add any excess salt, fats or animal products you an also use it in your compost.

Everything was against my workout today. I was foolish and decided that although it was uncommonly warm outside (32•C ) that I should do my run anyway. Bad idea! Not only did I run .80k less than my last run but also didn't drink enough water so I felt absolutely dreadful on the way back. When I got back I returned to find my roommates puppy had some digestive issues which upon cleaning up left me with just enough time to make a quick pasta dish before my evening shift.

No circuit today but since the puppy is getting neutered on Monday my roommate and I are taking a day trip to Mackinaw Island and doing the biking tourist routes there. I was a bit sore this morning in my shoulders and triceps so I'n going to put my circuit off until tomorrow and do another Zombies 5k mission as well. I normally would just do the circuit after work but it's an evening closing shift tonight with a opening morning one tomorrow. Ugh. Minor setback, I'll rock it tomorrow.

awesome job on your goals so far!  How do you like the zombie app?  I am seriously debating on getting it.

It's the best money I've spent on any form of entertainment in a long time! I absolutely love it, the story line alone is awesome for motivation and I've really increased in my times since getting it. 9 more missions and I'm onto the regular app!!! (currently using the 5k trainer)

Thanks ^_^. Cooking is one of my biggest passions and I really enjoy experimenting with healthy foods at home. I'll definitely keep it up!

Good work on pressing through those challenges and mostly staying with the workouts. Seems like these are the times when it really counts, to stick it out.

Plus, we're past halfway with the challenge! Now we really get to start kicking ass.

20th:

So you know when I posted and said it was a minor setback.... When it rains it pours. I ended up almost forgetting I had a wedding reception to go to for someone at work after my shift was done. My boss gave me a ride (one of the banquet servers is getting married ^_^) but since I didn't have a change of clothes and missed the bus I ended up walking home. Quickly changed, grabbed a card from the nearby Mac's and a tea because with Portuguese boya you know it's going to be a looong night. Didn't get into bed until 5 AM and was up at 7:30AM to get ready for my breakfast shift. The things I do for love <3. I was really happy with my calorie consumption from the snacks and alcohol they had available (only two wine and a small plate of these delicious meat kabobs).

After my 8 hour breakfast shift I was completely kaput and when I woke up between the 14 hour nap I was having I had a tickle in my throat. When I woke up the next morning I was sure, that cold I thought I beat had come back with a vengeance and left me couch ridden for the day. I however did read one of the books I picked up from the library (The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of The Porn Film Industry) and cleaned up the apartment a little for the inspection we had in the morning.

Feeling alright today, taking the day off and doing my run and my circuit in the evening when it's cooler outside. Probably the only Canadian praying for fall lol.

I chose the book because it was fluorescent and I was interested in learning more about the industry. It was actually pretty interesting. Learned a bit more about the Linda Lovelace story, mob presence in filming and distribution and how many stars reacted to the emergence of HIV in the industry in the 80's. Good dinner party info tidbits :-P

And I didn't do Mr.Piper justice but rocked it in my own way :-D

So, yesterday after I left you folks I got a call from my parents. I had told my sister I had 4 days off and she told my parents. I figured my parents would want some time to themselves after their trip to Mexico but my mom wanted me to come home. My dad ended up driving to get me and some groceries. By the time we got into my hometown it was after 9 and I didn't want to have a friendly run in with a neighbourhood bear.

21st:

Made dinner for my folks and we went blueberry picking. Got myself a full basket that has a street value of $30 here, $50 in my city, and up to $75 in Toronto. We got back before dark so I was able to fit in my run before dark. Felt like one of my best runs (probably all that rest!) but sadly without cell reception I didn't get a kilometres ran on my Zombies 5k :-(. Push ups felt great and I can see some definite definition coming in.

Have some skin callipers and will be posting some stats before the weeks out.

Our town area is basically a trail lol. I would have done several laps of our community if I had decided to stay in the area but I did my run in the highway area heading towards us. A lot more traffic so less bear encounter possibility.

I also had two neighbourhood dogs follow me for awhile. It was nice because they listened to me for the most part and I felt like a pack leader (I'm a dork). Looking forward to when I graduate and settle down so I can get a couple puppy's of my own.
