AshPS Fixing What Was Broken

Recommended Posts

Ok,here goes:

MAIN QUEST

I want to take off the added baggage (both literally and figuratively) and add some solid muscle.

My 3 Goals:

1) Teach myself to distinguish the difference between being hungry and being crazy stressed out or sleep deprived. And, to eat quality. Even if that means going to the trouble to fix it "just for myself".

2) Start a lifting program. Have lifted in the past, but it has been over a year ago. (I already know I am a warrior, lol. Didn't even doubt it.)

3) Cut sugar almost completely out of my eating. (Will leave leeway for special occasions-really special occasions. :rolleyes-new: ) I might have trouble giving up the coffee creamer though :nightmare: .

I have 6 kiddos and the significant other is currently not interested in eating healthy or exercise. I have seen it repeated that you should not go this alone if you don't have to. I am so that's why I'm here.

I want to dream as if I will live forever but live as if I could die today. Living intentionally.

SALUTE!

Thought I should add in a grading system, so here goes:

A= all 3 sub goals 6-7 days of the week (BBWW 3-4 days/ rest 3 days)

B= 1 missed day (5 completed days)

C= 2 missed days (4 completed days)

D= 3 missed days (3 completed days)

F2 or less completed days

Update:

Wow, I am really tired right now. In a good way. I got up this morning early enough to get in a workout before the clan roused themselves. Workouts MUST be in the morning- hands down and written in stone. My day is just too insane otherwise.

Since it has been over a year since I last consistently lifted anything heavier than one of the kiddos (small ones mind you) I didn't go into today's workout thinking I would max. As it is, I had no clue what I could handle. I did a round of upper body work and started off with 10 lbs (Hang my head :neglected: ). Well, I was pleased to realize I wasn't as out of it as I thought because that was only about a 40 % effort! Woohoo! It was nice just getting the feel again and focusing solely on form.

I do think that I will move to Steve's beginner workout as my base for awhile. I had chanced upon this Challenge so unexpectedly that I hadn't had time to put all the pieces in place.  I so suck at push ups. So, tomorrow is a rest and Thursday will be my first bout with the beginner workout.

A big YES on cutting the sugar out entirely today and also on the eating only when hungry. But, I think I am dealing with a sugar withdrawal headache that has plagued me ALL DAY. Also did well with keeping hydrated being that me and water have not been the best of friends.

Feeling good about today and am ready to head to bed.

Six kids?!! That is amazing. You are amazing for finding a way.

I have also cut way down on sugar. I found the first two weeks were the hardest, but after that I felt a lot more emotionally stable.

You're doing great!

Definitely attainable goals! :) Any reason in particular that you stopped lifting? I used to, but then I moved and left all my shit behind in storage and still haven't gotten it back.. Haha so bodyweight it is! Plus it's easier for me to find time to drop into pushups vs going to a gym.

Looking forward to hearing how today's workout goes, best of luck!! :)

Hey, glad you came by. That's really funny, we have a storage shed back in OR that has been there for 5 yrs now because it is too much of a hassle to go get it. Can't afford to let it go-think valuables. :nightmare:

The reason I stopped lifting....hmm, that is a bit more complicated. I am a crazy busy person and I guess it partly had to do with the fact that I had no one to help convince me I shouldn't let that get in the way. From the minute my feet hit the floor it is nonstop (literally- I have to hide in the bathroom to get a break :playful: ). I didn't just stop all at once it was more a gradual thing. (ex. I will do that after I (insert a billion other things) today.)

As I mentioned above, I am pretty much going this alone. I was wanting to find a wingman- think you'd be interested? Someone to just check in and keep me on my toes. I'd be willing to return the favor. Accountability groups are great but it helps to have one on one help too.

Workout went WAAAAYYY better than I expected. I'm doing Steve's BBWW. Put 15 on the rows (may sound wimpy to you- but like I said it has been awhile. :playful: ) Though man, I have the shakes bad! :nightmare:  I am only doing I circuit for now until I feel solid in all the moves.

Got yours in today? :playful:

Glad to hear the workout went well! I started doing the BBWW, but decided on doing the Convict Conditioning instead for now, though that could change! Haha And I got my workout in before work this AM, started doing morning instead of afternoon as I find I feel better thru the day, and its easier to motivate!

Absolutely I'll be your Accountibilibuddy. :) So how goes the food situation? Any more issue with the sugar? I'm glad I never got addicted to sugary stuff..just chips! Hahaha Best of luck on the rest of the day! :)

Convict Conditioning? I don't think I've seen that one. How's it going? AM is a must, if it ain't done before the crew gets up the chances get slimmer. And, you are right on both counts.

MUCH appreciated that you accepted! I really think it will hold more importance to answer to one person. Be tough, lol!

Food, food, food. That will be more of a challenge. Paleo is not really an option here unless I'm eating on my own. So, the greater challenge will be to keep meals as clean as possible. I've tried separating my meals in the past and it gets too complicated. So far I'm doing pretty good on that. Protein shakes, boiled eggs, veggies. I have a limited grocery budget so I may eat a lot of the same things. Doesn't bother me.

Still sporting a goodly headache that I think may be from the sugar withdrawals. Or, maybe it comes from NOT trying to watch the crew here eat the "goodies" the hub insists on bringing home EVERY SINGLE NIGHT lately. I have to go chew some gum and read your posts, lol!  :playful:

Never much been a chip person, but they are a staple in this house since the rest inhales them faster than they breathe. :nightmare:

Had a win on all my sub goals for today. Holy cow, my legs are sore though! I will be limping for sure tomorrow. Oddly, that makes me happy. :peaceful:

Hope you had an awesome day! :tyrannosaurus:

Convict conditioning is a book I found out about from reading the bodyweight section. It's a great step by step to get anyone from stage 0 to total body control. So far so good! Just hitting stage one of ten, so it'll take time! :P

How are you with the BBWW? When is your next round with it? :) Soreness is definitely a double edged sword, hey? Its a terrible feeling, but at the same time you have such a wonderful sense of accomplishment!

It's definitely hard when you lack support at home, and even more so when everything tempting is right in reach.. I'm blessed that my wife has decided to come on board finally with the full eating healthy and working out thing! Actually, she did squats yesterday after not doing any for a long while, and she's been sore all day, speaking of the pain we put ourselves thru! Haha

Glad you're having luck with the diet aspect so far though! Lots and lots and lots of water rends to help me when I'm craving, might help, too! And brushing your teeth I've heard can help stop snacking, especially before bed. Don't want to taint the nice clean taste in the mouth! Haha I used to live on gum, so I can definitely relate!

Congrats on the day, and may tomorrow be even better!! :)

Hey Vilkacis!

I will have to take a look at that book, sounds interesting.

My next round on the BBWW is Saturday, every other day to allow for rests-to which I am profusely grateful, lol. :joyous:

Salute to your wife and tell her she has my deepest sympathy. Hah, squats-hate them, love the results. :playful:

Yep, lots and lots of water- lots and lots of teeth brushing (I should have the cleanest teeth known to mankind)- and stocking up on TONS & TONS of gum. :nevreness:

Had a desire to bang my head on my desk tonight though. Hubs came home from work (he works for a major grocery store) & told me of some GREAT (said sarcastically) news. There is a guy who comes in that specializes in cheesecakes (my favorite food). He's created 2 new flavors and informed hubs he was making one of each for us. Bless the man. :nightmare:

He only does this every so often, it made me want to cry. (Just kidding, so don't panic. :playful: ) May seriously have to decide to have one of those VERY special occasions I spoke of.

So, when is you next workout? How many times a week does that program call for?

Wishing you (& your wife) much success!  :peaceful:

Seriously special, for me, is once a week.  Like clockwork.  Because it means I can look at the damned crap all week long and say, "I can have it on Saturday."  On Saturday, I usually wind up with my standard huge portion of ice cream.  But I would give that up for awesome cheesecake :)

Six.  I can barely handle two children and two puppies. You have been nominated for sainthood.

Glad things are going well.  It's not the squates that get me, it's the damned lunges.

The once a week is a good idea, I have done that before. I may leave leeway for that if I find it a really hard week. I'll feel it out as I go.

Seriously, If I could live on cheesecake without weighing as much as my house, I would do it in a heartbeat, lol. :redface-new:

With you on the lunges, lol, in my past life lunges and I avoided each other like the plague. But, this is a "challenge" right? :nevreness:

It's definitely worth a read IMO if trying to advance bodyweight workouts! Good idea on the every other day for working out, its a hell of a tough thing on the body otherwise.. I'm currently doing three times a week, which would make Saturday my next outing as well, though I either need to up the frequency or add difficulty, cause I'm not feeling near sore enough.. haha

Ugh...I hear you on the cheesecake! That's kryptonite, for sure.. but definitely a great idea, wideeyed! If you deprive yourself too long, might end up eating the entire thing! Hahaha So I'd say a small controlled piece is definitely the better option. :) Have you looked into making lowfat/nofat alternatives, to sate the sweet tooth...?

Doing great so far, with one whole week almost done already! Best of luck today, you can do it! :)

Today's Update:

Today was my rest day on the BBWW. I was really glad as my upper thighs were sooooo sore that the measly 2 steps from our foyer (where my desk resides) to the rest of the house began to feel like some kind of evil torture device.  :nightmare: (I began to wonder just how badly I needed to actually leave the foyer, lol!)

FOOD:

I have decided to start keeping a food record here. (1) I know that this is an area that will be key to my success in this. I have heard this saying 'that you can't out train a bad diet" and I fully believe it. (2) I am open to any advice people might have (and my accountability partner) as I go through this process. (3) I figure that if I make a promise to myself to be completely honest in listing everything I eat (or don't) that it will trigger the automatic pause button that will help me to think before I eat.

So, that said here is today's:

Breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs w/ green onion

                   3 pieces of dried kiwi

1 cup of coffee w/ a little creamer

Dinner: Spaghetti, pasta sauce, gr. turkey (portion controlled)

Lots of water & mint gum (lol)

Now I know this doesn't seem like much but first, I got a really late start on the day as hubs had a day off and that always makes my mornings a bit chaotic. Second, I eat when I'm hungry. I don't use the gum to keep me from eating-merely control stress eating. And, today- I needed that. Beyond a good day with my goals- it sucked in so many ways. :numbness:

Day 4 down.

I'll definitely be posting tomorrow morning, no worries there! And that's definitely a great idea on the cheesecake, but I wonder..if you had to go BUY the stuff to make it, then MAKE it, wouldn't that make it twice as difficult? :P

Uh oh.. kudos to you for sticking to the goals even through stress, hells ya for gum! Eating when you're hungry is definitely a better way to eat, for sure! Keeps the calories down, too. Mind you, with what you're eating, looks like your calories are right low already!

I'd say I feel your pain on the leg soreness, but I'm usually walking between 10-12k steps a day at work, so they stretch themselves out most times! Thank god, cause I've had the super sore muscles, and they definitely suck! Hahaha

Congrats again on sticking it to the day, and I look forward to seeing your post after the AM workout! :)

I'm 5'9", and lately it's been Children of Bodom, mostly cause that's what I have on my phone..though I think I may change/add more this weekend, before I forget! :P But typically anything hard and heavy, gets the blood pumping!
