Steve
Hey Herr,Yeah man, back before launching NF, I got a basic personal trainer certification (AAAI). It was a day's class, and then written and practical test. That was really the beginning of my journey, and since then I've tried to absorb information from as many places as possible. I realized that my strengths were in writing, community building, and being personable (at least I hope that's what I come across as, lol). Most of my training philosophy comes from Mark Rippetoe's stuff, and my personal trainer stuff is a mix of Jason Ferruggia (http://www.jasonferruggia.com), Craig Ballantyne (http://www.craigballantyne.com), crossfit, and my own personal experiences in the gym.Eventually I hope to acquire more certifications and further my knowledge, I just don't have the time now...and until Nerd Fitness is at least paying part of the bills, that probably won't change. So, I'm just going to continue building the site up, cranking out content, and helping as many people as possible and see where that takes me Glad to have ya here man.-Steve Quote Rebel Leader. I post videos of my dog on Instagram, and sometimes even share fitness wisdom. SOMETIMES. Link to comment
kalissa
Hey, I'm at Penn State! (meant to mention that days ago, but got distracted). I just started here last August and you aren't here anymore, but still, small world, huh? Quote Link to comment
HerrFaucher
Very, I was there for four years, but may be making a return (as a trainer) if things turn out well. Are you involved in greek ( like togas and shit, not a misspelling of geek) life at all? Quote Link to comment
kalissa
Nah, my adviser is pretty demanding (she's in charge of my research and is teaching 2 of my 3 classes this semester), so all I really have time for is research and class stuff. Although I wasn't really involved with greek stuff during undergrad either. The only thing I'm involved in here is the Shotokan karate club, although I'm hoping to get to more football games next year (I only got to the Syracuse game last season... but we won, so that was exciting). Were you involved with the greek life? Quote Link to comment
HerrFaucher
Yeah, I was an officer at my house while I was there and played intramural sports/ did the whole greek scene. When did you graduate? Quote Link to comment
kalissa
I graduated last May from UNC. So now I'll be at Penn State for the next 4, 5, 6 years.... maybe forever, depending on how focused my adviser is on having me graduate. Quote Link to comment
HerrFaucher
Oh, I thought you did undergrad at State too for some reason. Are you going to take summer classes? Summers up at State get realllll wild. Quote Link to comment
kalissa
I'm not taking classes, but I'll be here doing research all summer. I've heard that summer is the best time to be here. And people can't stop talking about the arts festival that happens. Quote Link to comment
HerrFaucher
ARTS FESTTTTT. Two words: FUCK YEAH. Hopefully Ill be back up for arts fest this summer, If I am maybe we will run into each other. Hopefully not full speed though, Im kind of heavy. Quote Link to comment
kalissa
Hmm, yeah, that sounds pretty painful. And that seems to be the same reaction everyone gives... even old ladies say "fuck yeah!" when someone mentions arts fest. I guess the enthusiasm is infectious, 'cause now I can't wait!
