I hit all of my goals yesterday and had enough left over calories to have a nice snack before bed.  My Convict Conditioning practice is coming along very nicely and I think I will be ready to start work sets on Monday.  Biking is getting less painful in my legs, hands, and elsewhere.  I'm feeling better all around.  Not great yet, but I'm noticing a difference.

Now, THAT is sweetness! :triumphant: :triumphant: :triumphant:

Keep that awesomeness going brader! ^_^

1395 Calories

9 Glasses of Water

Hard BIke Ride (pulling toddler son) for 17.5 minutes (~3.3 miles)

Practiced the first four Convict Conditioning movements for 10-20 reps each.  They are feeling really good.  Almost don't have to think about technique, tempo, cadence, or breathing which is right where I want to be before I start doing work sets.  I am on target to start work sets on Monday.

I'm still thinking a lot about whether I want to commit to 3 days per week of swimming for the next challenge.  I'm definitely leaning that way, but the last time I jumped in and tried to kill it on these challenges I spent so much time working on the goals, thinking about it, posting about it, etc., that I neglected a lot of other areas of my life including work.  I can't do that again.  I've already gone a bit overboard when I started to consume the information on Convict Conditioning.  My main goal is to bump up my cardio for the next challenge.  Maybe that means just keeping it generic or maybe I commit to this 0 to 1650 yard swim challenge.  I don't know yet.  sigh

In my defense, previously I had also jumped into using Nerd Fitness and Fitocracy among other things and was trying to lift weights 3 days per week for about 45min - 1hr each time and swimming 2-3 days per week.  This time I'm looking at strength 2 days per week doing bodyweight exercises that I can do at home and a lot of the newness has worn off on Fitocracy and Nerd Fitness.  So maybe it won't be too much.

So I planned yesterday to have plenty of extra Calories available for dinner since Sebastian and I were meeting his Godfather for a baseball game and I wanted to enjoy a beer and maybe a little bit more to eat.  I miscalculated a bit, plus had a second small beer.  So I went over my Calorie goal by about 300.  I'll be taking yesterday as my mulligan for this week.  Not a bad one mind thankfully.  Of course now I need to get through the weekend.

I did get my cardio in and drank about 8 glasses of water yesterday so good there.

I didn't have time to get my CC practice in, but if I am going to start work sets on Monday I should start easing off anyway.

Oh and we think our son may be ready to start some early potty training work.  So that will be fun.  Hopefully he's a fast learner, though at 16 months I'm not going to hold my breath.

Going over calories a little isn't really that big a deal, plus you were probably burning calories jumping around and being excited at the game right?  Ok that is my logic, and I know it's not really valid, but it gets be through. Really though, you're fine, enjoy the evening and don't feel guilty or what was the point of going over anyway? And Yay excited for work sets and potty training! Next week should be interesting

Oh next week will most definitely be interesting.  And I'm not at all feeling guilty, just using my goals as my guide to develop consistency.  I figure I went over so that will by the off day that I built in.  If I only go over by 300, that's nothing and I will still lose weight at that, just not as fast, so definitely not worried about it.

Work asked me to start learning to write software for Android devices (phones, tablets, etc.) which is a big shift from my normal Windows application development.  As one who is addicted to information consumption, it will be a challenge for me to give this training an appropriate amount of time without neglecting anything else, like my family or my diet and exercise commitments.  I'll need to work hard to stay focused.  Work is giving me 8 hours per week on the clock for now to work on this training so that should help.

Missed my goals a little yesterday.  I didn't get my cardio in due to lack of time, but that can be my day off.  I went over on Calories by a little bit, but we went to a fair and you can't go to a fair and not enjoy some of the fair food.  No CC practice yesterday again due to time.  I did drink at least my 6 glasses of water though.

So I need to pull things back together again.  Spent the day at a Church Festival and ate a taco salad.  Not the best choice.  Then went to O'Charley's for dinner and did much worse.  I won't go into the full details, but the Calories I consumed today were embarrassing.  No bike ride either.  We were just not home long enough.  Got my water goal for the day, but that is it.  Back at it tomorrow.  Monday I make my official CC start.

I did pretty well yesterday to finish up the challenge.  I was under my Calorie goal by a lot and enjoyed a nice treat at the end of the night, I drank all the water I needed, and I got my bike ride in.  The bike ride was rough.  I didn't have the energy.  I'm blaming it on the 2-3 days of not eating as well.

Anyway, it is measurement day and here it is:

Weight: 206.  Down 2 lbs this week for a total of 7 lbs for the last two weeks.

Waist at widest: 43" no change from last week. Down 1" for last two weeks

Waist at narrowest: 39"  no change in last two weeks

Thigh: 24.5" Down 0.5" from last week.  No change for last two weeks.

Hips: 41.5"  Down 0.5" from last week.  Down 0.5" for last two weeks.

Thanks Jess and Ash!  It has been a good two weeks for sure.  I'm still going.  Had a good day yesterday with enough left over Calories at the end of the day to enjoy a very modest size Ice Cream with milk when my pregnant wife was craving an Ice Cream.  I enjoyed every bite.

Officially kicked off my Convict Training routine yesterday and it felt great.  A little trouble keeping count of the reps.  I'm sure it had nothing to do with a toddler running around.  I'm still amazed at how much I feel it on these "easy" level 1 exercises.  I don't think I'm ready for the progression standard in either the Wall Push-ups or the Knee Tucks.  I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the tempo/cadence.  I'm using a metronome now to keep consistent tempo so I don't deceive myself.  I'm looking forward to my next CC workout.

I've been reading some of the Assassin's Guild challenges and look forward to being a part of that Guild.  I doubt at 37 that I would ever approach the level of some of them, but I love the idea of mastering my own body weight.  As long as I progress towards that, I will be happy.  I will still be in the Level 1 Challenge since I haven't completed a full challenge yet, but I plan to continue building a solid foundation.

Just remember when the easy stuff seems hard, that everyone starts at the beginning. You'll get there!

Thanks!  I agree.  I'm mostly reporting based on what I experience.  I think many people do these exercises as fast, or nearly as fast, as they can and don't fully control their body throughout.  A 2-1-2 cadence makes things much more difficult than if I go as fast as I can.  I believe the benefits of this will show up as I progress to tougher exercises.  Only time will tell.  My attitude is there though.  Patience and the higher potential for boredom will be the toughest challenges to overcome.

Exact premise of lifting. Which is my focus in the next challenge. It is not about lifting the weight up and down in quick succession, but a slow and solid movement to get the best from the work.

And yet so few do.  Symptom of the current instant gratification culture I guess.

So yesterday was a good day.  Hit my Calorie goal, drank my water, and had a new PR on my bike ride.  3.3 miles in 16.5 minutes while pulling Sebastian who was just weighed at the doctors at a good 27.5 lbs.

I think for a Life goal in this next challenge I'm going to do something to purify my work day because I too easily get side tracked on news, social media, and even things like Nerd Fitness.  I know, "What's wrong with spending time on Nerd Fitness?" right?  Well, unfortunately, I don't think my bosses would see it that way.  So starting now and formally in the next challenge, no more of any of that during my work day...at all.  That's approximately 7am to 4pm, Monday through Friday.

You make a good point.  How about something more along the lines of not allowing these things (e.g. News, Social Media, Fitness, etc.) to have a major impact on work productivity, personal responsibilities, or family.  Any day where I get carried away and something of a higher priority suffers, counts against me.  I'd need to word it better for the challenge, but...
