Sailor Tsundere's Rebel Ranger Debut!

Oh Fallout Boy. You couldn't have picked a finer time to renter my life and make badass music. So I'm starting over again and feel pretty positive about it. Even though I know it's not 6 Week Challenge time yet, I've already thought out my goals! That said, I'll post here and in the upcoming thread for signup when I can. But, doesn't hurt to have some redundancy (unless moderators don't like this and if so, I sorry!) Here's the play by play of things!

Main Quest: I turn 24 in 4 months. I know it's a young age and I technically have forever to do this but I want to feel comfortable enough in my own skin not to freak out or feel ugly when I do my pin up photoshoot! Also, I'd like to take my weight from 192 pounds (as of 22 August) to 170 pounds. I don't want to do this the crazy way and try to lose 3 pounds per week. If I lose more, great! If not, focus on the fact I will feel healthier and living a happier life! We're going to take this nice and natural: eating better and exercise! With a positive mindset to boot! With that said, here are my main three goals:

  • Read New Lifting Rules for Women and incorporate said things into a gym routine of three times a week for at least an hour. Said routine can include things from the book or from my own research. Workouts should ideally be during the AM hours at the free gym because it's free but hey, as long as I get a workout in of at least an hour, I'm golden.
  • Focus on cooking breakfast everyday. Yes. Every. Day. I plan on outsourcing my lunch and dinner (a healthy outsource that saves money!) but breakfast never gets accomplished. That said, making something as simple as scrambled eggs and a green smoothie to make the day start possibly a little smoother needs to happen. Oh. And it must be made in my kitchen, by my hands, and healthy! No Pop Tarts, limited cereal, and no Chick-Fil-A (death wish)! Fuck it. I'll do it live. I'll do a Whole30 Challenge after the first week of the 6 week challenge and then modify it to my observations. The strikeout button is my friend! 80/20 is the better route for me. It just works better into my life as a whole = )
  • DRINK WATER! 1.5 liters a day. Invest in big cup and running shoes for the bathroom. It's going to get pissy.

Side Quest: Gotta love a good side quest! Mine are as follows:

  • Life Side Quest: Oh yeah. Gonna be saving some hardcore money and go balls deep into the Spending Fast. It's going to be a bumpy ride but I know if others can do it, so can I! SCREW YOU DEBT!
  • Fitness Side Quest: Ignore that elevator. Forget the escalators. Stairs. All day, every day.
  • Mini Quests: I'll be waiting for you!

I just realized I missed out on a few things, let me put them here now!

Thanks a ton! I purchased myself two special water tumblers so no one else can use the, In theory anyway. One stays at my desk at work and the other stays home. This will remind me to drink water.

I will not be starting my Whole30 Challenge until next week due to some complications but I did go out and buy some things yesterday. And I have to clear my already pretty care fridge with my last bits of offending foods!

So the entire beginning of this week has been a challenge and struggle. And just generally a failure. I've been extremely tired (more so than normal), I've been eating terribly (again, not abnormal), and I'm just scrambling. I get to see my family and friends this weekend, which has me excited, and it should recharge me for next week when I start the Whole30 Challenge. Monday morning will be kinda rough since I'll be pretty limited on the food I can consume that's readily available in my house BUT I have eggs and I can totally eat those and some sausage = )

And as soon as I get done with my eye appointment (I've made it my business to make sure I am up-to-date with all my doctor stuff), I'm going straight to the grocery store. I found a recipe for skillet eggs which may just be my staple for the week and I'm gonna try to find a chicken Whole30 crockpot recipe to get me through until the weekend where I will go to a farm and grab myself some real, fresh meats. I will plan out my menus though!

Anyone else doing a Whole30 or have completed one? Tips, pointers, anything? <3

I made it through one whole 30, and lost 17 lbs (which I later gained back, but that is totally not the fault of the whole 30). I made this recipe for Curry Chicken  and loved it. Actually that whole site had amazing food and she is AWESOME! (Funny, bad-ass crossfit paleo chick- what's not to like?) Planning, planning, planning- stock that fridge with eggs and pre-baked sweet potato, maybe bake up a bag of chicken breasts to have on hand for when you just need to grab something to eat. The hardest part for me was making sure that all of the little additions to food, like sauces and seasonings, are soy and sugar free. Also, don't worry about the calories or carbs- at all. If you actually follow the whole 30 plan, it is really hard to overfeed yourself and you probably are gonna come out under no matter what. If you need carbs (or crave sugar) fruit will also be your friend. Good luck, it is hard, but it feels great if you can actually accomplish it.

Status report: So it seems I have lost some bloating which is pretty sweet. I made it through one clean week of Whole30 before I had rice. I didn't beat myself up about it but I did learn in the one week I can actually go without my grains, dairy, sugar, and junk for days at a time. I don't NEED it. Even though right now I'm in a tiny funk and would love a small cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I think instead of holding on to the Whole30, I'll just do 80/20. It gives me less heartache since I am a HUGE proponent of eating and ENJOYING food. I read so often that people felt...caged in during Whole30. I won't let food, whether be unhealthy or "too healthy", control my life. I have to be a big girl and show moderation. If that means Monday - Friday I only eat the healthy stuff to maintain my energy and spirits for the work week, so be it. I'm not gonna binge rage on the weekend and stuff my mouth with ALL THE FOODS but I might enjoy some dairy and grain. Like a little ice cream. Or Chipotle. It's all about moderation, right?

I understand about the Whole 30 "caging" you in, it is really hard. I do recommend you do it at some point, it can really change your relationship with food. That being said, I really don't think it is the best way to start eating paleo, because it is so strict and unforgiving (one slip and you need to start over- really?), I like the 80/20 much better for beginners. I'm glad your adjusting and finding something that will work for you, the best plan in the world is junk if you can't follow it. Good job on realizing that, and changing rather than giving up!

Thanks a ton! I was trying to use this to jump start a Paleo/primal thing but it just...I dunno. I wasn't looking at food like I hated it but I was like, "Geez. This sucks. I accidentally had soy in my tuna. Fuck. Time to start over!" And as one of my favorite phrases goes, ain't nobody got time for that. Not right now anyway. Not while trying to figure out a HAPPY balance for me and food. Like last night I had rice again when I went out with my family and didn't fill one bit of bad about it. Didn't feel restricted either. Today we're grilling out with the kiddos and I know there will be less than healthy food but I'll have it today and pick up on my train tomorrow. It's a balance. Nothing more and nothing less.

I'm still restricting my naughty sugar intake as a whole. Like I purchased sugar free cacao for my baking and besides a child's organic chocolate milk and a little ice cream I had (that I couldn't even finish because I actually didn't like it), I've been staying away. Even from the coffee with cream and sugar calling me this morning. I think the ice cream was the last time I had dairy too. Can't remember when I had legumes. That's three things right there!

I never was able to do a Whole30 either! 80/20 works for me too. Plus I think that makes it easier to just get over it when I eat something non-Paleo, because it's no big deal, just start eating right again immediately. There is no beating oneself up over having a treat now and then, which I think is psychologically more healthy. Anyway, good luck with your challenge - I know I always get really tired and achy when I go through that initial detox of cleaning up my diet. But once you get over the hump, it feels great! Don't quit before the miracle happens, and all that!
