Teros
woke up early, had some breakfast, listened to guile's theme accapella(sometimes I question my sanity), and hit the forums. All caught up. phew. Now it's time to stretch, workout, and get cracking on that school essay. Link to comment

Teros
I took some advice and checked out the beginner's stretching guide. After reading the little article, I realized I should do that AFTER the workout, so I did: 10 Tire Ups10 Very Weighted Crunches10 Tire Ups10 Very Weighted Crunches25 x 2 Gravedigger25 x 2 Butter Churn25 x 2 Chop Wood20 x 2 Killswitch10 Tire Ups10 Very Weighted Crunches10 Tire Ups10 Very Weighted Crunches I totally forgot about stretching and took a shower, but as soon as I sat down I saw the video so I did the stretching routine. I have a question though, at :39, am I supposed to be on the balls of my feet? Or are my feet supposed to be flat on the ground? I attempted flat and I couldnt get down that far, but I could when I shifted weight to the front of my foot. Which is correct? I couldn't do the knees to chest while laying down one AT ALL. I just weigh too much. However, all the others were good and I feel better doing them.. I think I'm going to pick a few stretches from my other source and add it to this beginner video. Time for a big hearty lunch and to start working on the essay. I don't want to overwhelm myself, so I'm going to attempt 45 minutes at a time. 45 min, take a break and walk around a bit, play a game for 20 min, then come back for another 45. I'll see how far I get with this. I'm EXTREMELY nervous writing this thing. Link to comment
Swampling
I think the goal is to be able to do it with your feet flat on the ground. But most people will need some time to get there. In my yoga class when we are doing similar exercises, many people put something underneath their heels because they aren't that flexible yet. It will get easier with practice. Tateman
Yeah, I don't think i truly had the tiger blood phase really. It might have just taken longer for me. The last two weeks of the challenge is where I really was feeling that extra spring in my step. That was after the Whole 30 ended, but I kept going. The book does make reference to some people it taking longer too. Tateland.com, Instagram, Fitbit Link to comment
Amandaba
it takes time and practice to do a stretch fully, you just go until you feel it stretch (or pull a little) we don't want pain! wideeyed
Those workouts are looking awesome. On the flexibility, just take it to the point of feeling the stretch. On the squat one, feet should be flat. Work on that first using something to balance with (like a chair), before trying to hug your knees. It is easier on your toes, but it doesn't help with ankle mobility. WildColonialGrrl
Nice video. I have really tight calves and it is just a dream to one day be able to get that low with my heels to the floor. I just keep working at it. With stretching some things will be easier than others and that is just the way of each body, some bits take more work! You seem to be settling into a nice routine now, well done! newcs
Haven't had a chance to read all of your thread but did read the first few pages. Whole 30? Sledgehammer training? I'm impressed. I tried paleo a while back and couldn't hack it. The feeling gross (tired/bloated) just never went away for me. Maybe it's the Portuguese/Irish genes that are just adapted to grains. I'll have to look into the sledgehammer training. I love anything that requires minimal equipment and uses functional movements. Jonesy
The whole30 timeline even says that results do vary and that for some people you need to go longer to feel the same effects. I mean I was not super hungry like you were in the early stages. My appetite has not been there pretty much from the beginning, which is weird to get used to huh! Keep up the great job and you only have a few more days left. Teros
Day 24 -So I have a Dr appointment on the last day of the whole 30. Should be interesting to see what happens. I got a little bit of the essay done, in terms of formualting the outline for it. Now I just need to flesh it out with a big ole' rant and then tidy it up. Got some tips from a social worker on how to write these and certain key words to avoid/use. In other good news, my boss agreed to do a recommendation. And lastly, an activities director for an alzhiemer's unit is going to write one for me. I used to bring my 2 pugs in to the unit for dog therapy so that'll look good too. That's 3/3 letters all going to be written. Finish the essay on thurs when I get some time and I'm good to go. Picked up my transcripts yesterday as well. Phew. Link to comment

Teros
Thanks everyone. Laureleye- there are two pugs. They ARE the therapy. One of them is a bit tubby(30lb) and the other is a peanut(14lb). The tubby one likes to chase those laser pens that you use to play with cats. The tiny one is a lap dog. He loves to snuggle with people. So the tubby one would chase the laser pen around in the middle of the room and all the alzheimer's patients would love it. Meanwhile, I would pass around the tiny one. He would sit on everyone's lap. They would all take turns petting him and he fell asleep a few times. I really miss doing that. Link to comment

Swampling
Super progress with all your recommendation letters! Pug therapy sounds like a great thing! Any chance of you doing it again some day? I have noticed that some animals are really, really careful when they are meeting weak or sick people or small children. It's truly amazing to watch. I used to ride a very spooky horse, he would bolt at any perceived threat (and he perceived a lot of them). One day, after our lesson, I was asked to take a small child with me on a couple of rounds around the arena. The little girl was paralyzed from her waist down, so I had to make really sure that she was safe. You should have seen how careful and calm that spooky guy became all of a sudden. He made sure that we had a safe trip! After the little girl was safely in her mom's arms again, well, that's another story... Teros
Pug therapy sounds like a great thing! Any chance of you doing it again some day? Well the activities director was a friend so I was able to bring them in and it worked out perfectly. However, she got a different job and that same week one of my favorite residents Annie fell down, slipped into a coma, and died. Frank(the tiny one) fell asleep on her lap all the time. So I guess just a bad memory and not having connections with anyone else in the field is why I haven't bothered. Link to comment
