Glad you had a fun weekend, sorry to hear about your arm, rest up and I hope it will be OK soon!

Sorry for your loss Tateman, it is really tough to lose a friend. I glad you have good memories and thank you for sharing. Good job on pushing though and getting stuff done, it's good to keep occupied.

Plus, that video is really cute, good work on the squats!

Here is the video I recorded today.  First is jumping jacks warm up, then leg swing warmup, and lastly we are watching the kettlebell video.

That's awesome man! <brofist>

Thanks for sharing about your friend. I'm sorry for your loss, but you're doing good to honor his memory like you're doing :)

Sorry to hear about your friend Man of Tate, he sounds like he was an awesome guy.

Nolan looks like he's starting to bang all that stuff pretty decently. Maybe you should try to get him to be a guest columnist for Nerd Fitness. I bet he's excited that he's able to have more and more fun with his father the further you progress just another sign of your pure awesomeness.

I think it's awesome the way you honored your friend.  And that video is not just proof that you have a freakin' cute kid but also that your are being an incredible role model for him.  He'll grow up knowing exercise is fun recreation, not a chore to be dreaded.  As always keep being awesome.

Im sorry for the loss of your friend, he sounds like a good person. I hope that his spirit realizes how much he is loved and missed by his friends. You are such a great person and it's hard to not want to make everyone's life amazing sometimes, but you are doing just that for yourself and John, by being a great role model for your son, and doing the things that John wasn't able to in his memory!

lots of love and hugs and positive thoughts for your day.

With that kind of mileage, you'll be giving me a run for my money! ;)

Firstly, you son is far, far too cute. Seriously. I found myself swinging my arms along with him. How amazing is he?!

Second of all - thank you for sharing with us about your friend. It's ace that you're working out for him. I've lost a few friends of mine along the way, and John sounds like a brilliant person, I'm betting he's looking down on you, considering what an inspiration you are too for 'levelling up your life' like you used to level up on games together :)

RIP, John.

Thanks.  Normally he does more stuff, but he doesn't like it if I am not doing it too.  Hard to film and exercise ;)  Even this morning I was dragging a bit, but i mentioned going outside to workout.  next thing I knew he was next to me trying to move my chair to make me get up.  Shoes were on and he was ready to get our workout going. haha.  Though mostly he like throwing rocks out back and digging in dirt too while I workout.  I think this NF stuff would have fit him pretty good.

Tate, my heart felt your pain for a bit (man that super power is one of the hardest to manage) and i'm truly sad that you lost someone like that.  I love how you honoured him.  And then just as i'm about to shed a few tears for you, Nolan happened.  Your kid is a noonookin - really what an adorable little thing!! Especially those AtG squats, the little man has put me to shame.  Made me want to pull some off right here in my office, despite my dizziness.  You're teaching him that!  YOU!!  Man that's the best acknowledgement of everything you're doing right :)

:)  The good thing is he seems to really like it.  Just more play time with Daddy.

Glad you had a fun weekend, sorry to hear about your arm, rest up and I hope it will be OK soon!

Arm is still a little sore, but seems to mostly be ok.  I debated about posting about my friend, but I think it is good to get it out.  My kid seems to like doing any of the things I am especially if I count out loud.

Yup, I am trying.  I keep pushing forward.  Every day I push forward I feel a lot better.

Oh yeah, he loves that we go out there.  he doesn't always follow along, but I think he has a blast.  It's pretty good for me too except when he throws dirt clumps near me when I am working out ;)

Thanks.  That is one of the big reasons I go outside and do it with him.  I know he just thinks it all play time.  My older son it is harder to try to convince him to get doing things.

Sorry about your friend and your arm.  Jeez.  I lost a friend about a year ago too.  He was a plumber and he didn't secure his gear in the van and he didn't wear a seatbelt.  He hit a patch of ice and the van rolled a few times with all the loose cargo.  Left behind 2 kids. Can't imagine losing my best friend, Orlando- I was a wreck at my plumber friend's wake.  Known Orlando for 22 years now and I'm not even 30.

Uhh today has been not the greatest.  I'd almost think I was getting sick.  Body has been sore all over.  I feel like a old man.  I did ok at bowling tonight, and ok with food though I did have a little bit of potatoes in my dinner.  I just feel drained.  So I decided to just take the night off from workouts or walking.  Maybe my body just needs a little rest.

of course your body needs a little rest.  Like all equipment, they need a break from working sometimes ;)

You're doing amazingly so i don't think one night will wreck anything (probably make you stronger etc).

You've been pretty much all go for two challenges and then this one, you're bound to wear yourself out at some point, at least if you've not been giving yourself decent rest between the challenges. Don't wear yourself out too much, be careful and listen to what your body wants to tell you. I'm sure you'll pull through and come out the other side full of win.

Yeah, that's what I figure.  I think it more for this challenge as I am actually trying workout each day.

I actually rested pretty good I think between the last challenge and this one.  I had some blisters I let heal up a lot during this last challenge.

I probably need to get myself into doing better/more stretching after working out and walking.  Things seem to be going good otherwise.  I've made good progress on the Game of Thrones book.  I am enjoying it quite a bit :)  Food I think I have done well on.  Had a little bit of regular potatoes last night with dinner.  I'll probably have some today too.

Damn, T-man, the tide really came in fast for you. First off, you're an absolute rock for sticking to it through the heartache; lots of people just go catatonic in those kinds of circumstances, but you chose to move forward in spite of it and give more meaning to what you're doing... I don't think I've seen it done better. I salute you.

And as everyone else has said already, your kid is ridiculously cute and totally lucky to have a father like you.

Hopefully the weekend has seen you take a well-deserved break, so you're fresh and ready come Monday. Just remember, injuries can escalate quickly so if your arm is still protesting don't push it: find something else to do and let your body really heal. It takes far less time to recover from an initial injury than it does from an injury that never got the chance to fully heal in the first place.

Thanks.  It makes me feel good seeing my kid do that stuff.  Maybe I can get the older one going too.  I sort of took a few days off.  I guess my mind needed it too, I don't know.  I am back working out again :)

I'm going to jump on the band wagon here and say No Worries about a night off.  You body and your mind need to rest and reboot.

Yeah, I actually ended up being off pretty much 3 days total.  1 day I did meet my minimum for walking at least.  Lots of grocery shopping etc.

So the last few days have been... interesting.  I have had thoughts that I am self sabotaging myself all of the sudden.  So I took the 1 day off.  felt pretty good.  Had slept funny the night before, so my neck was aching.  Friday ended up being spend time with the family catching up on tv shows we had recorded.  So overall it was ok.  I was ok with myself taking a second day since it was all spent with my family.  Yesterday, I don't know what was going on.  My plan was to get up and workout, but we decided to go get grocery shopping done.  Which was good.  It at least got me in my minimum walking.  I just could not get myself to go put in a workout after that.  I kept asking myself if I was really self sabotaging myself or what.  So yesterday I did not workout again.  I really didn't do much.  I kept trying to motivate myself to get out there and do the workout.  Instead I just sat around and watched extreme weight loss show.  I still did everything else.  Reading has been great, and food has been fine.  I just couldn't get myself to workout.

This morning though, I did.  Pretty much first thing, I went out and did a workout.  I just figured enough was enough.  I had no excuses.  Nothing was sore anymore, my mind was just trying to be lazy.  So I am feeling really good that I did that already.  Still want to get some walking in today, but I am off to a good start already.

I think sometimes I just can so easily drop back into that funk where I don't want to workout anymore.  I just have to push forward anyway.  i am still losing weight, and am almost caught up to my wife.  When I told her my weight, she told me to shut up ;) haha.  She has lost a couple of pounds recently, so maybe that will motivate her too.

Good to be back on track with all my goals :)

Link to comment

Speaking from experience, you losing the weight will motivate her.  Just make sure (also from experience) not to nag her about her own weight (not saying you are, just putting it out there cause there were times I didn't even realize I was saying something to that effect).  It'll take her longer to drop the weight, but keep encouraging her about her progress and sharing yours.  It's gonna be awesome to watch both your progress and your kiddos :D <brofist>

Oh I never nag.  I just mentioned I weighed myself yesterday, and was at 287lbs :)  So just was like "Oh shut up" like kidding wise.  She has said she has dropped a couple of pounds, and was 285 I think.  She was 213 when she got pregnant with our last kid.  So she is working on getting there too.  A few years ago, she had the lap band surgery.  After having our son, she was never able to have the band as full.  She gets really bad acid re flux.  Even eating a hard boiled egg can give her the reflex.  So we are at the point where she might need to get the band removed.  She is trying to follow what her doctors are laying out for her.  They want to see if they can help to get her weight down, then see if the band can work again.

I'd love to sit her down and just say "Look, do what I am doing now.  Follow this food plan" etc.  I think she needs to find the path that will work for her.  What's working for me now, might not be that great for her.

We will both get there. :)

Hmm, I should try to get her to start checking out the NF boards haha.

Good good!

Oh wow, well yeah I can agree there :)  One step at a time and I hope the losing the weight will help with all that.  I know that it helped me and my wife so far with things like indigestion, etc. (dropping weight)

There's certainly some good ideas out there for eating plan wise, but my wife and I have had the same situation.  I can eat meat and veggies all day long, but she can't handle as much protein.  At least, she couldn't when I first started, but now she's been slowly adjusting and it's working for her.

Hehe, hmm.. you could always point to my thread and be like "Look, Honey, another husband who's got his kiddos working out with him like our son does with me!"  ;)  If you don't mind me asking, does she have a lot of female support?  I know my wife has struggled with that in the past.

Hmm, well she has some co workers that are sort of into it.  They were doing walking and things, but now my wife can't really do that much.  Her knee has gotten really bad, and I think her left knee is bone on bone.  They have been implementing new services at her work, so they have all been extremely swamped and stressed.  It probably will be that way for the rest of the year.

We will have a little time off when I do my spartan race in December.  We are going to spend a few days down at Disneyland and stuff :)

Week 2 Summary:

Well, overall it was a good week except I missed 3 days of exercise.  Still lost weight, and still improved overall on my numbers.  I currently weigh 288lbs.  I saw 287 during the week, but 288 is the official weigh in :)

1)  Track Exercise and food intake

I've been updating my battle log each day with what I eat and my exercise.  So far so good.  A here for the week.

2)  Workout Everyday

Took a hit on this one this week.  I am going with a C this week.  Only 2 days were I didn't at least get my 3 miles per day.  I've got to make sure I get my workouts in these coming weeks.  If I do need off a day, I need to not make it 2 or 3 days.

3)  Intermittent fasting

Going with a A here.  Had a few long fastings, and a few shorter ones.  I haven't been starving in the mornings or anything like that, so it's fine so far.

4)  Read a book!

Getting a A here.  I am in 618 pages read of the Game of Thrones book.  I have been typically reading for more then a hour.  I will probably finish this book this week, and move on to the next one.

5)  Build towards doing a real good form push up.

Since this one is really tied into my #2 goal, I am giving myself a C here as well.  Making progress, but I didn't get out there every day to work on it.

Still doing awesome.  It sucks to fall off the wagon with any of your goals but it just serves as a hard reminder that even the "Great Tate" is human.  The rest of your goals are sailing along nicely and you still lost weight WITHOUT all your workouts.  That rocks!
