Minx34 Challenge 2 Take 2!

Hello all!

I'm super stoked for this challenge! This will be my second attempt at my second challenge, since I didn't complete mine during the summer. So here it goes!

My main quest: Lose weight and fit into a size 12. Right now I'm hovering between a size 16 and size 14. Closer to 16.

Here are my 3 missions:

1) Do the Angry Bird workout at least three times a week. STR: 4 STA: 1

2) I will get 8 hours of sleep each night. CON: 3 STA: 1 (Tough since I'm in grad school, but they call it a challenge for a reason :) )

3) I will do intervals on the elliptical at least twice a week STA: 3

And here is my life quest: Journal/write twice a week. I minored in creative non-fiction in undergrad, but I stopped writing. I want to write again and hone my skills. It's good for creativity and self-reflection. WIS: 3

My motivations:

  • I want to be stronger
  • Inspire my parents to be healthy too
  • Motivate others to be healthy, since I am going into the public health field
  • When I come home in December, I want my boyfriend to say "Damn, you're so irresistibly sexy!"

So yup, that's me! Feel free to ask me about anything. And good luck everyone!

What is your fitness level prior to this challenge?  I only ask because when people go from 0 to 60, they get burned out fast and they can't keep up with their own pace.  It's better to pick maybe just the angry birds workout and see how you feel after a couple weeks.  Slow and steady wins the race.  Good luck

Thanks for asking! I haven't worked out in a little over a week, so I'm a little rusty. But from before I'm able to do the Angry Bird work out. I'm in Level 5 of the Squats (I can do 70 shooting for a 100), level 2 of the push ups, Level 1 of the Back exercises (using 25 lb weights, shooting to do 40 pounds before I try inverted pull ups), and I am shooting for level 3 in planks. The elliptical on my rest days isn't so bad, its just making myself get up and do so :) But thank you so much for the advice, I'll keep in mind!

I love that one of your goals is to get enough sleep. I've been doing little else since I finished my post-bac program last month! There will come a day when sleep happens, I promise.

I sure hope so! Post bac, you say? Are you premed? :)

Nah, I can't decide what I am, so I keep going back to school. I've discovered that you can try "certification" post-bac classes that are only a year part time. This was paralegal. I have no clue what I want to do the full masters in yet. Still, a job, classes, and my internship made sleep rare at best!

I got about 8 hours of sleep last night, and an administrator in my school thought of me and gave me a journal today! Going to work out when I get back tonight. So far this challenge is of to a mighty good start :)

Finished my first (Angry Bird) workout of the challenge! Here's how it went:

  • Level 5 Squats: Goal 100 overhead squats in two sets. Did 105 so three stars! I get to graduate on to level 6 at 30 jump squats.
  • Level 2 push ups: Goal 20 push ups in two sets. Ended up doing 8 regular push ups and 12 (nearly vertical) incline push ups. I give myself 1 star because my push ups are never low enough. Whenever I try to go all the way down I collapse, so I have ended up doing push ups half way down. I think I'm going to scale back and work on just doing incline push ups, and then come back to doing regular push ups when I feel like I can go all the way down.
  • Level 1 rows: My original goal was to do 30 one arm rows in two sets with 25 lbs weights, but since I haven't worked out in a while I did 20 lbs again just to see where I'm at. I'm glad I did! It was a struggle to do the full 30 in two sets, so I'm going to do this one again until my form is smoother. Then I'll attempt 25lbs. So 2 stars
  • Level 3 Planks: Goal 3 minutes in two sets. Did 3 sets: 70 seconds, 61 seconds, and 54 seconds. Got to work at doing two sets of 90 seconds! Two stars sine I hit the goal in 3 sets

Okay, now I've to take a bath and rush over to bet to grab my 8 hours of sleep. Good night, people!

super impressive, hope that you got your 8 hours!

Thank you! I sure did! I went to bed at 11:40, and happened to wake up at 6:44. I was like lolwut. Went back to sleep and woke up at 7:40, and felt awesome. I hope I can keep this up!

So originally I was going to take my two rest days during the weekend, but I didn't workout Tuesday or yesterday so I'm going to have to beast it in the weekend. I'm not going to let myself slack off any longer! Elliptical workout and journal entry to come this evening after I study epidemiology.

For my journal entries, I'm doing something different. Instead of the "Dear Journal" stuff, I'm going to do an entry of creative non-fiction prose. If any of you guys have prompts or topic ideas, please post them on this thread! :D

I really liked short stories.  A really cool story came from a writing prompt I had a while back.  We were given a fotune cookie and whatever sentence that was, it had to be in the story.

Another prompt was if you found some music on youtube, clicked 5 related links and whatever song played would be the mood for your story.
