G'day!


 


A West Aussie that is a massive metalhead (which is where alot of my challenge titles will most likely be derived from \m/ ), currently studying as Game Design looking into the future for a career in the Indie Games industry. I have a good chunk of weight to lose to be healthy, and almost all my excess weight is on my stomach, quite a specimen of a beer gut actually (albeit mostly a result of rum), which I understand is more unhealthy than the weight itself.


At the age of 23 I now have weight to lose and muscle to gain, this is my goal and is there purely to get my health in check, rather than to look good and achieve strength goals, however I know I will have these goals later, but that is just ACT II, no need to focus on that yet!

H: 6'00"


W: 107kg (2 less than I started my first challenge)

MAIN QUEST: RISE SON OF SODOM


Chapter 2: A Testament ov Fire, Descend to Hell


I have recently travelled from the cesspool that is Sodom, escaping the shadowy, violent streets, into the outlands, ragged plains of dirt, sand and rock. I have duelled many an Outlander, and fled many more. I have escaped my shackling cell of that decrepit place, and have journeyed unto the looming obsidian gates of Hell. It was a journey of strength, willpower and endurance, put I am here now. The next step of my journey is to penetrate the threshold of the gargantuan gates and race down the tunnels and halls to the outer cesspits of Hell. Into the shadowy tunnels of brimstone and rock, I will test my mettle against the Hellspawn and harsh environment, but it is the only way forward for me, and it shall be a journey indeed.


 


I want to bring myself out of old habits and place my self on the path to a healthier lifestyle. More exercise, cleaner diet and a greater overall sense of happiness.


I want to maintain the goals and quests I set in the previous challenge, and build upon them. I also want to further focus on getting my weight in check this time around.


I was able to attain A's across the board last challenge, so this time I would like to focus on making the challenges a bit more difficult and assertive, without being to excessive and grindy.


 


MAIN QUEST OBJECTIVE DELTA: HELLSPAWN BRAWLING


I have fought with many an Outlander on my journey, building my strength up, so that I have a chance of tackling tougher beasts on my journey. However as I descend into this tunnels before me, I will have to take on Hellspawn, rabble they may be, but tough and swift in their brawling. I will have to take them on if I am to build the strength to be able to survive a battle with a demon, for they would easily have me for lunch if I were to reach the outer pits right now. I must attack the tunnels at full speed, for tales suggest that wreaths of flame race through the tunnels, to prevent the Hellspawn from escaping, and I have a long way to go until I can escape the halls of stone and tunnels of brimstone. I have spent much time running from the Outlanders, for many that I stumbled across were raiding parties, and I certainly did not have the strength to take more than one or two at a time. My running and stamina will be tested to breaking point here, and it will be a great thing. For all the progress I make and endurance I gather, the less likely the River Styx will catch me unawares, and cast me to the abyss.


 


I would like to maintain the progress I made with my 'To Bruise a Demon' and 'Running the River Styx' quests I had in the previous challenge. I was successful in getting A's in both of them and so will push myself more this time around. The last challenge got me and my body prepared for getting into exercise routines, and now I must start developing these routines. Also the last challenge I had the loophole of walking instead of jogging and still getting an A, so this time I want to focus on getting out there and jogging. It is a big step for me because I don't much enjoy it, but I certainly don't feel comfortable jogging around the neighbourhood. Progress is what we are after though, so progress is what we shall aim for!


I will also upkeep the group workouts that I do with Nim-aera, Rachy87 and Brentos.


 


A: 150+ workout points.


B: 115+ workout points.


C: 95+ workout points.


D: 85+ workout points.


F: <85 workout points.


 


And how am I assigning these workout points? Well...


For weights; every session that sticks to the routine I have planned out is worth 2 points, every routine that is decent enough, but isn't enough to satisfy my routine, or an acceptable equivalent, is worth 1 points.


For every week I get 5+ points, I get 1 bonus point, if I manage to get a full 8 points, I get a bonus 2 points.


A maximum of 4 sessions a week count towards the score, this is to ensure I have rest days. Therefore if I have at least 2 rest days in a week, I get 1 bonus points.

This means that I can get a maximum of: (4 x 2 points a week) x 6 weeks = 48 points, then; 48 + (2 x 6) = 60 points for completing 4 full sessions every week, then; 60 + (1 x 6) = 66 points for doing every workout and having at least 2 rest days a week.

For group workouts; every group workout gets 2 points. Completely all 6 group workouts gains me 2 bonus points.

This allows for: (6 x 2) + 2 = 14 points.

For cardio; I don't want to limit the points on cardio, as I want that to be the main focus here, but I also want to limit the points on walking, therefore making jogging the primary goal to this quest.

For every 15 minute jogging session I will get 1 points, and for every 15 minutes longer I get an additional 1 point. If any single jogging session goes for more than 40 minutes, I get 1 bonus point, if for some crazy reason I manage to jog for 2 hours, then that session will get an additional 2 points on top. Probably won't do that, but at least it has been defined! :tongue:

For every 90 minute walking session I will get 1 point, and for every 45 minutes above that I will get an additional 1 point. If any single walk reaches or exceeds 3 hours I will get 1 bonus point.

Walking will cap at 10 points per week, and/or 45 points for the whole challenge.

 

This may seem quite convoluted, but it my way of showing the NF community how I am going to keep myself on track.

 

 

 

MAIN QUEST OBJECTIVE EPSILON: CONSUMING THE BEFALLEN

Throughout my journey I have consumed enough blood to sate my thirst, for all the running and duelling is draining, both of dehydration and of power. As I barrel down into the depths, as the heat rises, and my battles with the Hellspawn rage on, my thirst will grow and I will have to continue to sate that thirst. Not only that, but now I am out of food, and there is nowhere I can go for it, I will have to spare the carcasses of the Hellspawn I fell, for nourishment as days pass without a Hellspawn in sight. I will have to be careful in my consumption of flesh and blood, but I must sate the thirst, hunger and power.

 

In the first challenge I maintained a great water consumption per day thanks to my quest objective 'Discard the Holy Water', and I would like to solidify that water consumption as a true habit, as is the aim of these challenges. However, I feel that I need to control two other consumption related things, my portion size and the very occasional, but notable, binge eating. I don't really know how to measure these two in regards to the challenge, but I will attempt a grading system, each time I don't watch what I eat I will remember that, and score myself out of 5 (for each thing, dependent on what I do) at the end of each week.

 

A: 2.0L of water, 55/60+ score.

B: 1.8L of water, 50/60+ score. (This is the water level required for an A in the previous challenge)

C: 1.6L of water, 45/60+ score.

D: 1.4L of water, 40/60+ score. (This requires a 3.5 from both portion size and binge eating scores each week to attain)

F: <1.4L of water, <40/60 score.

 

 

 

MAIN QUEST OBJECTIVE ZETA: REMOVING THE ROT

Throughout these halls and tunnels, is nothing but sebaceous corpses, the sulphourous dust from the brimstone, the rot of all the decaying matter, dirt and slime. As I traverse through them I will be littered with all of it, not to mention my own blood and sweat, and the blood from the Hellspawn I shall slay along the path. If it all lingers on me it will slowly begin to rot my skin and flesh, so I must find the salt pools that boil from the heat beneath, and cleanse my self of this rot. The rot could undo me, and it is the last way I would want to go.

 

I want to get this challenge underway, and off the top of my head I can't think of anything simple enough for myself to aim for this challenge. However Brentos had a quest in his last challenge that involved the brushing of his teeth, and this got me to thinking. Having had cosmetic dental work done, I don't look after my teeth near well enough, and I haven't worn my retainer in a long while. I feel that dental hygiene is important, and for health reasons too. Not only that, but as I am a metal head and have long hair, I admittedly do not take enough care of that either, not overly health important, but if I combine it's maintenance with that of my teeth, as a general sort of thing, I think that is still I good health/diet/fitness quest to set, so thusly, I shall.

Ultimately I would like my hair to be longer, and sit nicer and look shiny more often than it does now, my hair isn't actually that bad, but every now and again I allow knots to get a little bit too far out of control.

Ultimately I just want to feel comfortable with the way I treat my teeth, my folks payed for braces for me, so the least I can do is wear that retainer and keep them a little bit straighter, and I would like to be able to eat ice-cream without the concern for that aweful feeling, especially with summer on the doorstep.

 

A: Brushing teeth twice or more a day, wearing retainer every day (with the occasional miss), brushing hair daily, improved overall hygiene and maintenance.

B: Brushing teeth twice a day, wearing retainer five nights a week, brushing hair five times a week, improved dental and hair maintenance.

C: Brushing teeth once a day, wearing retainer thrice a week, brushing hair thrice a week, improved hair maintenance.

D: Brushing teeth once a day, wearing retainer once a week, brushing hair twice a week.

F: No improvement from how I am now.

 

 

 

LIFE QUEST OBJECTIVE: DECIPHERING THE NECRONOMICONS

As I travel through these hallowed halls, and the tunnels that link them, I am bound to stumble across the old tomes of the Underworld's Magisters. These tomes hold knowledge on Hell itself, what lingers within it's bounds, and ancient knowledge of many things, and survival could be dependent on them. That dark magic within the pages will give me strength and will to push passed and vanquish my foes. I must find these Necronomicons and decipher their texts.

 

I am starting back at uni, and I would really like to smash through the work, stay ahead of the curve and just ride the wave out once I have all the assessments done. It would be hard to track this for the quest but I will try and manage it.

 

A: 250% work rate (Try and get through 2.5 weeks worth of work every week, this is ridiculous, but I know me, and I know if I try I can achieve it).

B: 200% work rate 2:1 weeks worth of work a week. (the w words here make that seem like a bit of a tongue twister :tongue:  )

C: 165% work rate 5:3 weeks worth of work a week.

D: 135% work rate 4:3 weeks worth of work a week.

F: Just doing the work as it come or falling behind is a fail on this. This is not about passing or failing, or going to class, it is about getting ahead of class and assignments.

 

 

 

Time to descend into Hell and see where exactly it is that that party awaits! :tongue:

The edit was due to a nerf I did to scoring when I first wrote this up - the weights bonus points - were originally 8+ and a full 12, but it should have been 5+ and a full 8, this is because I originally had the workout points at 3 for a full, proper workout, but nerfed it to 2. I only just noticed... derp.

Can I just say - I have written that first post out twice, as my computer didn't like me when I got more than halfway through.

Then just as I clicked post that time, it did the same thing.

For those interested, I think it is just a result of it still getting the last of the drivers and updates as it is a new PC and there is technically nothing actually wrong with it.

 

All I can say is that I am glad that it successfully posted :D

ah Necronomicon.  When I finished the workout points portion I was like 'uhh...what'.  That seems like a lot to keep tallying up.  I just have my 2-3 workouts each week and it's pass/fail for me each week.  Then take the 6 'grades' and average them. 

 

and...INDY GAMES. What kind do you like?  Not sure if it would be considered indy, but since not NEARLY enough people know about it- I frigging love Torchlight 2.

My only concern is your A grade for objective zeta.

Over brushing your teeth can erode away your gums.

You may want to consider flossing as well

 

Overall it seems like a mammoth chapter ahead of you but knowing you as well as I do, I am sure you could get "A"s all around if you really wanted to

Yeah I can understand that, they are a bit involved, but I like those sorts of things, keeps my mind at work. That is a good idea though, I may use that in another challenge. I am interested to see how I go with the grading system.

My idea behind it was to focus on both weights and cardio, but to make jogging the focus, and to build up to an A over the 6 weeks, as it will be tough to push for such high grades in the first week, but hopefully I will get just enough progess to be doing it habitually in week 6.

 

At the moment I am liking alot of stuff coming through Steam. Been getting back into the Binding of Isaac and the rest of the games in the Potato Sack, as well as Kerbal Space Program and Take on Mars. Anything sciencey, puzzle, strategy related is my flavour at the moment. I think if I get into making anything they would be the kind of things I would aim for, as they have enough depth to be playable, but simple enough for a 1 man project to take on. Torchlight is something I haven't spent much time in, from what I remember it was good fun, but alas I does not have it.

Well the dentist did always recommend 2-3 times a day, especially with the braces, but with your concern, that is why I didn't make an A 3 times a day, but a 2+.

Yeah that is part of the stretch, overall hygiene increase. Don't know how well I can floss given the wire that is still on my bottom teeth.

 

Indeed, quite a mountain to climb, but I is gonna give it quite a crack methinks! I will try! :P

More details on Week 1:

 

I was drinking water every day, but each day ranged from 500mL to about 1.5L, which is a fail for the week.

Portion sizing and binge eating were fairly good too to be honest, I actually noticed when I had better portion sizes, and it did feel good to actively do so as well.

Portion sizing for week 1: 4.5/5, binge eating and junk food: 4/5, for a total of 8.5/10 so far.

Besides a few walks I didn't get any points for doing workouts. However points to carry over for this quest so I shall list those a bit further down.

For hair and teeth, I did fairly well, brushing both everyday, and wearing my retainer almost every night, which meant some hectic soreness on a couple of days.

 

Week 1 workouts:

2 walks; 1 100min (1 point), 1 120min (1 point) for 2 points.

1 gig; not technically covered in the point system, but I will classify it as walking, despite being pretty intense; 3 hours, which equates to 4 points.

Week 1 Total: 6 points, not good at all, almost counts as 0 points really.

 

In regards to uni, well I spent most of the week chasing up admin stuff that the uni should have sorted out long before I started my trimester, but instead I had to sort it and then still be held up for an hour from a booked appointment :/ not overly impressed by this, but oh well... Which leaves me without any way to score or track this quest, but starting this week I will be able to.

 

 

 

Week 2 so far:

Day 1: 1.4L  + hair and teeth

Day 2: 1.65L + 1 walk of long enough length - 90min; which equates to 1 point

Day 3: Still underway, but my exercise for the day is done. 1 walk of 90min; 1 point

 

I will have to pick up on the water to get anything but an F for this week, but it's not too far away. Portion sizing and binge eating have been acceptable so far this week too, which means that I should get up a little bit on this.

My workout points are still really low, which is a result of NOT DOING ANY, so I have to really dive in tomorrow, my day off uni, do some weights and go for a jog perhaps :|

Hair and teeth are going okay, looking after my hair is something I need to be more actively thinking about, meaning rather than doing it in a scattered routine-esque manner, actually defining a routine and sticking to it, finding a good treatment for it and using it often. Other than that I should be good for this quest too.

I am getting stuck into uni now, so I haven't got progress to mark, but as I have a week to catch up on and this week to do, it will be next week or the week after before I can really have a chance of getting to that 250% mark.

 

Slow, barely steady, but still early days. Sorry I haven't been on much recently, but hopefully I can dive back in and get more involved, and focus more on my challenge too.

With the rush to start the new challenge, and starting back at uni I went into a tailspin and have struggled to get back on track with all my quests, but as it settles down now, already passed the half-way mark :S , I am hoping to get back on track and at least get some B's.

Week 2 Report:

 

Day 1: 1.4L + hair and teeth

Day 2: 1.65L + 90min walk (1 point)

Day 3: 1.3L + 90min walk (1 point)

Day 4: 1.45L + 145min walk (2 points) + moshing at Lamb of God (which I will just give 2 points [i really should officially define how many points to give for moshing...]) + hair and teeth

Day 5: 1.75L + hair and teeth

Day 6: 1.1L + hair and teeth

Day 7: 1.95L + hair and teeth

 

I feel that I did well with my portion sizing through week 2, I do specifically remember being happy with my self control, so a 5 for that, and binging was good and kept to a minimum, so a 4.5 for that.

 

Hellspawn Brawling: Running Total: 14 points thus far - this equates to a F-, with alot of work I could pull this to a D or a C, but getting an A will be a mountain at this stage.

Consuming the Befallen: Week 2: 1.5L +/-0.25; Running Total: 18/20, which is a D due to the water, but I think I am looking at a C or even B for this, if I can up the water I still have a shot at an A.

Removing the Rot: Teeth once a day, hair only about 3 times, and Nim helped with some hair maintenance, and I dropped off on my retainer wearing, so I have to give a C for this week. I can get myself to an A on this one I think.

Deciphering the Necronomicons: Week 3 of uni, I have kept up with 2 classes - not enough content provided to go ahead, I have gone ahead on the other 2, one I have got to week 6. Haven't tucked into my assessments yet, so I would say I am at about 165% pace at the moment. Which is a C grade.

 

So at the moment I am looking at a D average. Which is not great, but I am only on the precipice of the half way mark, and if I focus a bit more I think I can hit some A's and B's.

Slow start, but it's only half-time, still got the championship quarter to go yet!

Day 1: 0.65L - teeth - 7 hours of walking (hectic indeed - Perth Royal Show - like a carnival effectively - but better and more official) which equates to a fair few points... 8 points in fact (1 for 90 minutes, then 7 x 45 minutes [315min - 5h15m]; 6h45m)

Day 2: 1.05L - teeth

Day 3: 1.6L - hair & teeth - 90min walk (1 point)

Day 4: 1.35L

Day 5: 1.2L - teeth - 90min walk (1 point - which reaches my max. points for walking - 10 points) - weights workout - not a proper routine, so 1 point.

Day 6: still underway - 1 weights workout (I feel so terrible for not picking them up for a month - makes the first challenge feel worthless :(  ) which adds 2 points and a bonus point

 

Workouts looking at 14 points, which doubles weeks 1 and 2 combined, but is still not good enough for a C or even a D.

 

I am trying to get into my water today and tomorrow, but I won't be able to get higher than a C - if a C at all.

I will try and get a weights workout in tomorrow as well, but it is Rachy87's b'day party (high tea) so I will have to organise around that, but I should be able to.

Hair and teeth have not been consistent and frequent enough so I will be low on this.

Binging has been fairly low, despite the chocolate showbags I got, and portion sizing has been good. I won't give myself more than 4 for binging though, because I did buy those showbags.

I have mentioned my current uni work rate already, but I will be working on it today and tomorrow to try and get closer to a 200% rating.

Week 3 Report:

Firstly, I will do my midway post a bit later, have to go to uni soon, so I will just update with how I did.

 

Day 1: 0.65L - teeth - 7 hour walk [8 points]

Day 2: 1.05L - teeth

Day 3: 1.6L - hair & teeth - 90min walk [1 point]

Day 4: 1.35L

Day 5: 1.2L teeth - 90min walk - lesser weights workout [2 points]

Day 6: 1.65L - teeth & hair - weights workout - 30min jog [5 points]

Day 7: 0.7L - teeth

 

Workouts Week 3: 16 points

Workouts Total: 30 points

 

Binging I give myself a 3.5 for getting chocolate showbags, portion sizing was good, so I give myself a 4.5, for a score of 8/10.

 

Hellspawn Brawling: 30 points thus far - this equates to a D-, by putting in a helluva lot more work I can get this up to a C or B, but I will have to break out of my shell and go on those jogs, that this challenge was aimed at...

Consuming the Befallen: 1.2L +/-0.35; Running Total: 25.5/30, which is a D- due to the water, but I think I am looking at a C or even B for this, if I can up the water I still have a shot at an A, just.

Removing the Rot: I dropped off on everything this week, so I have to give a F for this week. I can get myself to an A on this one I think, but only if I really, really push myself for it.

Deciphering the Necronomicons: Week 3 of uni, I have kept up with 2 classes - not enough content provided to go ahead, I have gone ahead on the other 2, one I have got to week 6. I have tackled a couple of assessments so far on this now, so I give myself a C for the week.

 

I am still sitting on a D average, which really is not good enough, and I haven't attacked my workouts much at all this week, so I am not happy with my progress so far at all. Keep working at it I shall, and hopefully I can get some better scores over the coming weeks.

Week 4 Report:

 

Day 1: 2.1L - hair & teeth

Day 2: 0.6L

Day 3: 1.15L - teeth

Day 5: 1.8L - teeth

Day 6: 0.7L

Day 7: 2.1L - teeth

 

Total workout points: 31

 

Pretty bad as far as the workouts go, so that is a bummer.

Binging and portion size were good though, giving me a score of 4.5/5 and 5/5 respectively.

I can't remember which days exactly by I know that I wore my retainer at least twice during this week.

 

Hellspawn Brawling: 31 points so far, we equates to an F. This rules out an A or a B for the challenge completely, which is definitely fair, I haven't been doing exercise much at all. A C is still in range, but so far in week 5 I have been just as bad, so even getting a D will require some effort in the final week.

Consuming the Befallen: 1.35L +/- 0.6; Running total: 35/40, which is a F as a result of the water. I think I can still get an A, but my eating habits are likely to drive my score below 55/60 by the end (I need perfect scores for weeks 5 & 6 to still get an A here, which is unlikely), so I think I can get a B for this one.

Removing the Rot: I'm gonna give myself a D here, simply because I tried to put the effort in and wear my retainer a couple of times. I think for me, I need to find a routine that allows me to focus and remember and habitually do my hair as often as possible.

Deciphering the Necronomicon: I think I am roughly up to date for week 6 on my classes and week 8 on one of them, and I have tackled up to the week 7 assessments. As I am on week 5 I think this makes me on about 140% work rate. Which drops me to a D.

 

I feel that I am currently running on a average. Which isn't good to see, but I can work on it to my scores up to a C average hopefully by the end.

Binging was not good at all, but portion sizing was good this week, I actively ensured I was not eating too much, which is good I think. I give myself a 3/5 and 5/5 respectively this week.

Retainer only once this week...

 

Hellspawn Brawling: 35 points for an F. Yeah. I dunno if I will even make a D for this challenge, mainly because I don't think it is possible to get 50 points in one week, and I don't know if trying to get that in one week is a good idea.

Consuming the Befallen: 1.90L +/-0.3L which is almost an A, but I will give myself a B for this week, especially due to the binge eating. 43/50 in total, which rules an A out entirely for this challenge, but I think mentally I understand my eating habits and have shown that I know how to control my portion size, so it feels like a good win here for me. So long as my eating habits next week are good (both above 3.5 each) I will get a B for this challenge, which definitely feels befitting of my efforts :D

Removing the Rot: Another D for this week. Not enough effort has been put into my hair or my retainer wearing. As I said previously, I think I just need a way to fit it in with my daily routine so that I can fall into habit with it properly.

Deciphering the Necronomicon: I think I am averaging up to week 8 on content and week 9 on assessments overall, and I spent most of today doing essay writing, so I am trying to keep up a fast pace. It is difficult with dry content that I have completely previously at a tertiary level, although comparatively they won't give me credit for. I will give myself a D however, as I really should be poking around weeks 11-12 at this point for an A.

 

This week I have a average, which is obviously not great, but the B I got for my water and eating habits feels good, and feels like a strong lesson to learn with how I intake my food, so I am not too unhappy with that. On the other hand I am extremely unhappy with my lack of exercise, which was a focus of this challenge.

 

Well final week this week, so let's see what I can achieve to finish off this challenge :P

I didn't put the effort it and that's on me, but challenge three will be the important thing now!

 

Hellspawn Brawling: I got less than 60 points, so this is an F.

Consuming the Befallen: In the end my water consumption was almost a good 2.0L but I got about 53/60 for my eating habits, so I give myself a B here.

Removing the Rot: I did put some effort in here for this one, but ultimately it wasn't good enough and a C is all I get.

Deciphering the Necronomicon: I started strong here, but trailed off as the content got stagnant through the middle of the teaching period, then I never picked up pace again. A for me here.

 

All in all this was a D+ average, which is really a fail when you think about it. But from here all I can do is go up, and that is the plan, so on to challenge 3! Ahoy!

Good sir a D isn't a fail because you did improve you life. Sure it wasn't a big improvement nor did it last for as long as you wanted. But YOU DID SOMETHING! So still give yourself a pat on the back.
