Nuala "No-stress" challenge

Nuala

Recommended Posts

My quest this time is something I should have done a long time ago because I'm always sabotaging myself because of that. Stress.

I'm easily stressed, anxious, nervous. I have recently spent days in my flat, turning around doing nothing just because I was stressed up to panic because of some stuff I had to do. That's not fine at all.

So, I want to be stress-free.

Goal #1: determine the source of stress

Goal #2: Find why it's stressing me

Goal #3: find a way to avoid it/ destroy it

Goal #4: Profit?

And I'm starting with my own thread, because writing it up is quite stressing :D

What stresses me today:

- Business opening up under my flat. And they apparently needs to destroy the walls, the floor or maybe the whole building.

Stress level because of the noise: High

Stress level because I can't work like this: Very high

- Upstairs neighbor Chihuaha rat whining and scratching the door

Stress level because of the noise: Really high

Solution #1: Kill the rat and feed it to the person who is destroying the building

Solution #2: Make a can of tea, go analog and take some pen and paper to work and leave the flat to work at my bouldering gym because they have food, beer, good sofa and boulders.

Or solution #3: aka solution #2 + getting rid of the rat. I'm pretty sure it's whining because it's nature heresy and it knows it! He just want to die a decent death instead of a life of suffering!

...

What? Ok.. ok... I'll stick on solution #2 :(

Solution #4:

Have you ever heard of the pied piper of Hamelin? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pied_Piper_of_Hamelin

Step 1: Get a flute

Step 2: Play the flute - rat follows you. Rat will claw its way out of the door because it's so entranced by your flute

Step 3: Well s**t, now the rat is following you! Lead it to the forest or somewhere else

Step 4: Do lots of detours to confuse it so it won't find its way back. Stop at a bookshop on the way, get a copy of the first Harry Potter book. If you don't know

tumblr_mamw0rbkSE1qbsw6yo1_400.gif

then you can get a cassette player and an empty cassette - record your fluting (sp?) on the way to the forest.

Step 5: Enchant your flute (I'm sure the spell is in the book somewhere!) or set up your cassette player - rat will stay where the music is

Step 6: Return home, don't open up the door if the neighbour knocks to ask where on earth that hole in their door came from and where her rat is.

Just trying to get back on my feet. :)

Moving office seems to be the best solution, off to a great start!

Nice goals! I feel ya on the stress thing, though yours sound significantly more intense than mine. I mainly deal with it by ignoring the source, which makes me feel like it's gone away but really just leaves me unprepared and floundering when it actually comes around and I have no choice but to deal with it, so good on ya for figuring out healthy ways to deal.

Also, a climbing gym with food, beer and sofas?!? I must introduce this concept to Canada, it'll be a revolution!

Tell me more about this mythical bouldering gym with food, beer, and comfy sofas?  :)  Why don't I have any of those where I live?

Good luck with the challenge.  Since you're stuck handling all of the guild leader duties on your own, it seems really wise to have a more relaxed challenge.

Ear plugs don't work against a jackhammer, nor against the children that takes 5 minutes to climb the stairs while yelling "YAY" on each steps. ^^' It may be effective against the chihuahua rat though.

Moving my non-existent office may be an option, after all my office consist into my laptop. :P Technically, that's what I did today, I went to the bouldering gym at 11h30, worked without stopping (well except for a short tea break)  until 2h30pm and then went to relax by climbing a few blocs. "few" being climbing for 2 hours and trying for the first time some V4! My hands are dead, I have a new blister under a old blister but heh, it was a good day anyway. I will do that again tomorrow to escape the noise :D

Obax, Nymeria, you are so welcome to visit! We will sit on the sofa and drink all the beer! They seriously have a nice choice. Too bad they don't have any paleo/primal food there. Except delicatessen plates. Yum!

Actual stress level: average. Actually high. My mother just told me that they had to put down one of our dog. She had a bladder cancer and at 13 years old, couldn't be treated.

RIP Sandy, you were a good dog :'(

Sounds like fun!  I'm not sure whether beer + bouldering is a great combo, though.  On one hand, it would quell that little voice that tells me not to make big, dynamic moves when I'm 10 feet off of the ground, and I'd probably be able to solve more routes.  On the other hand, taking a lot of big falls wouldn't be great, either.  ;)

Oh no, sorry about your dog!

I'll never understand why some of you love climbing so much. I'd join you for a beer and maaaybe watch from the ground, but my climbing park adventure was enough for the rest of my life :D

Well, past the hands burning, the blisters and the vertigo, climbing is quite nice. It's like solving a puzzle with your own body, you need strenght, technique, dexterity and the feeling when you finally solve a difficult problem! It's pure Ecstasy!  I won't deny that looking at other people climbing is quite the eye candy too. Not sure why most men are always half naked, but considering the boulderer body shape, I won't complain :D

Oh dear me.... your challenge is "no stress" and you're leading the Assassins without Wolvie?  Damn girl...

Mmmm... drink all the beers!

One day I'll make a "Have some realistic goals" challenge. But not this one :P

I'm sorry for your dog. :(  I know how you feel. *hugs*

On another note, can you work at a cafe?  Or use headphones and play concentration music?

Thanks for the hugs.

The bouldering gym would be a good place to work if my laptop had a battery. Unfortunately it died and I have to stay plugged at all time, making it difficult to move. But I can always go analogic like today. Pen and paper never fails.

We'd just have to make ourselves a new motto: Climb first, then beer. I feel like a nice cold one would be the perfect balm to all my pinchy fingers and blisters.

Also, very sorry to hear about your dog. I know how that feels, it's rough. You have my sympathies.

As for the noisy rat, can you believe how many recipes call for chihuahua?

Agreed, the eye candy is at least half the fun. :P

Well I could totally go for the eyecandy :D

I think if there were climbing walls that worked like treadmills but at a 90 degree angle to the floor, I'd totally try it.

Is there such a thing? If not we should invent it.

Let's call it "The Scarypants-Assassin's Climbing On The Ground Machine"

Weeeeell. I guess you could do it with parkour. But what I mean is a moving climbing wall. You've got all the knobs on there, but instead of going further up, the wall comes down towards you. That way you get the climbing experience without having to climb all the way up - perfect for people like me that would pee their pants hanging from a wall 5m up in the air :D

Well ear plugs were not efficient apparently ...

Actually when you climb you lok up and around... so no fear... it 's only when you have to go down !!!

The only moment i freek out :D

Let's do a parkour !!!
