I'm terrible for having huge amounts of aspirations to the point where I'm ground to a halt by indecision, which I'm sure is something a lot of people here can relate to. I've decided to change that, and wouldn't you know it the first day I come on the rebellion after arriving home the 6 week challenge has started! I'm going to use this opportunity to organise my goals, and hone my body and mind into something I can be hella proud of.

MAIN QUEST

Become proficient at body weight exercises, at least until I'm able to fund gym membership or afford my own weights. Get smarter about nutrition and exercise, and shape my diet into something that will compliment my exercise routine and leave me able to grate cheese on virtually any part of my body.

GOALS

  1. Do the BBWW three times a week, marking my progress and increasing reps with the aim of completing at least one advanced BWW by the end of the challenge.
  2. Substitute unhealthy food with paleo, a step at a time, over the next six weeks.
  3. Be an active member of the nerdfitness community, to keep myself focused and supportive of my brothers and sister in arms.

SIDE QUEST

  • Look around the local area for gyms and martial arts centers that would be affordable
  • Same for swimming pools, go once a week at least.
  • Regularly update my progress on the site.

MOTIVATION

I want to be a Renaissance man, able to take anything this unpredictable world can throw at me with a smile, and take a stand for what I believe in.

Thanks for reading, let's do this.

As you can see I am more into Ancient Greece but I also feel a lot of empathy with Renaissance. I do not like the modern specialization and even if I am of 'letters' I am doing efforts to have enough knowledge of science, a functional body, etc. So, I like your goals: here you have a follower of your progress, sure.

Thanks JessFit! I wouldn't say that I am one already, but I've long thought that modern society's obsession with being overspecialised was silly, and want to be as well-rounded as possible without neglecting my body. Better get to it!

Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes! People laugh at me because I have such a variety of interests but I enjoy it

Excellent, thank you! I'm working on identifying some paleo/primal-friendly snacks to substitute fruit, which is a step in the right direction, but I don't want to go overboard on sugar. One day this week I'm going to sit down and scribble out a few recipes which use similar ingredients and buy them, so I'll have a few options rather than repeating the same meal. Now, it's workout time!

That's where I shared some. Not all Whole30, but the egg cups and apple chips are for sure. I'll try to see what else I can think of and feel free to message me to chat about food stuffs *yum*

I also love Stupid Easy Paleo website for noms, they have some fun stuff to help you from getting bored. I'm not sure exactly how whole30 differs from paleo but I know lots of the food overlap so you can check that out

Your quests are awesome! I thought there would be some X-Men reference to Forge in your goals LoL...

Checkout Anytime Fitness if they have any around your home. It's like 30 a month...go as much as you want anytime you want! It's awesome...The gyms are generally smaller and are not as equipped as La Fitness(No Pool/Hot tub) but will generally give you a great place to go!

Good Luck!

Thank you Jess, I'll definitely be giving some of them a try! Those apple chips sounds delicious...

Sorry if my title was misleading, guys. Bit of a First World Problem with making challenge titles, there are so many and you can't make it a quote too obscure that people won't get it, so I decided to keep it simple. Will upload my workout routine tomorrow, got a bit of a headache so gonna kick back on Arkham City and catch an early night. Peace!

Good snack ideas, JessFit. Thanks, I will use them, too. By the way, I don't see why fruit isn't paleo/primal friendly. I know about sugar/fructose, but they are paleo-carbohydrates.

Daggart, I believe fruit is paleo-friendly, but I'm trying to not eat fruit for all of my snacking seeing as I wanna lost a bit of fat as well as gaining muscle, so things with less sugar content would be good. I will still have something with breakfast though and see how it goes.

ANYWAY. Started Monday, but forgot to jot down my progress like a bit of a dummy, but it was Steve's template minus rows (couldn't find anything suitable for lifting), and I did at least the amount he suggested in his article. Yesterday I flung a load of tonic water bottles and some milk into a bag and used that for rows, so I'm no longer neglecting my arms, yay! Figured I may as well put the results on here instead of making a separate battle log.

Wed. 18th September: (Get) Cut for Bieber!

Squats:

20

20

Push-ups:

10

10

Lunges (each leg):

20

10

Rows:

18

18

Plank:

30 sec.

30 sec.

Jacks:

A bunch to warm up at the start, and

30

30

There it is. Nothing astronomical, but it was a level I managed to do comfortably without leaving myself majorly sore, although surprisingly worn out from doing lunges! Shortened the lunge reps the second time because I was fed up of wobbling when I extended my left leg, and my left leg muscles started aching. Did a weird amount of rows because the bag handle I used was quite long, so instead of kneeling I did it standing up, and wanted to make sure my form was alright before doing it next time. Going out for a walk on rest day today, need to look into finding a pool nearby!

Caramel, very good workout, I agree.

I agree about the fruit, too. I like it because of the vitamins, but it is true that has too much fructose and it isn't cool if you want to lose fat. I like the idea of eggs, and carrots. I suggest a tomato with tuna or sardines. It's yummy.

Hey guys, hope you're all well. Been kind of a lazy week for me, I ended up visiting a friend in another city and didn't do much in the way of formal working out or eat too healthily, which is completely my bad. However, I did go out on several walks among other things while I was there, and I'm actually looking forward to getting back on track as of tomorrow! Going to push myself hard to make up for lost time, see if I can't add to those reps and maybe do another set entirely (that'll teach me). I'm also organising myself in other areas, revamping my CV with the intention of some steely-eyed job hunting next week, so I'm still revved up and good to go!

Feeling the burn today! Haha but I'll tone it down a bit for tomorrow. Gonna try and keep at 3 sets though, it really does make the difference I think and I need to work on my muscular endurance. Stumbled upon a new looking gym pretty close to where I live that's pretty cheap, which is awesome! Will get hooked up after Christmas if all goes well, then I can start Stronglifts, woo!

Whew! Feeling pumped that I did a workout today, got to sleep at like 5am for some stupid reason, and was feeling a bit meh so wasn't going to, but I strapped my hard hat on and now I feel gooood! Funny how hard we try and convince ourselves that exercise isn't good for when we're feeling bad, even though it always makes you feel better!

Wednesday 2nd October

Squats

30, 35, 40

Push-ups

10, 15, 20, 10

Lunges

10, 12, 15

Rows

20, 22, 25

Plank

45, 30, 60

Jacks

30, 40, 50

Managed to keep 3 sets in, which is great, and threw some attempted incline push-ups in at the end. The angle wasn't very steep seeing as I was just doing it leaning off the couch but I'll work on it for next time. Think I might add in another arm-based workout, seeing as they don't seem to be holding up (no pun intended) as much as the rest of me at the moment, and I want to be well balanced.
