FluffyRin - Becoming a Better Role Model

Ok, folks.  Last challenge wasn't very optimal.  I had a rough go the last few weeks and now is the time to get back on track.  So this is going to look pretty familiar to those who've followed me before.  :)

Main Quest: Become the Best Pre-Mama I Can

As you know, my husband and I are trying to become parents. My goals are to set myself up for some healthy baby growin' and knock down some bad habits I don't want to pass along to future kids.

Mission 1: Be a Strong Role Model

Last challenge started strong and then died a sad and miserable death.  I don't really want to change it up too much, so goal remains the same: exercise 5 times each week.  With winter coming, I'm going to need to shift my schedules slightly to workout more in the afternoons.  I'm not a fan of running in the dark...

5 Points to be divided amongst STR and STA depending on what I feel improved most.

A: >90%

B: 80-89%

C: 70-79%

D: 60-69%

F: <59%

Mission 2: Be a Healthy Role Model

Towards the end of the last challenge, things got lazy and we started eating out a LOT.  It was hard on the budget and hard on my gut, so this challenge is to reign that back in.  My goal this challenge is to eat in.  That means planning in advance, shopping ahead, and making sure that I'm ready for the week.  I'll give myself two eat-out meals each week (we like to eat breakfast out on the weekends and it gives me one grace meal the rest of the week as well.

+2 WIS, +2 CON

A: <12 meals

B: 13-14 meals

C: 15-16 meals

D:  17-18 meals

F: >19 meals

Mission 3: Model Good Behavior

Towards the end of the challenge, I was really failing on some of the routines I had started to establish.  This is important, so we're giving it another go.

AM: Brush teeth, floss, wash face, sunscreen

PM: Brush teeth, floss, wash face, take vitamins

Each routine will be counted separately (so if I miss my morning routine, I'll still get credit for a PM routine).

+2 CON, +1 CHA (everybody likes a fresh smile better, right?)

A: >90%

B: 80-89%

C: 70-79%

D: 60-69%

F: <59%

Supplemental Mission:

I am stiff, sore, and my neck is all kinds of wacky lately.  So I'm going to make mobility a dedicated goal.  I plan to get 60 minutes of targeted mobility work done each week.
+3 DEX

A: >90%

B: 80-89%

C: 70-79%

D: 60-69%

F: <59%

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity:

but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Week 1 / Day 1 Status:

So, I'm guessing you've all heard about the floods in CO last week.  Needless to say, my hometown was one of the major areas hit, my work was shutdown for a few days, and we were crossing our fingers that the house wouldn't suffer major damage.  We lucked out and never really got major high water around our neighborhood, but the street out to the main road washed away and both my husband's and my primary (and secondary and tertiary) routes to work are all still closed.

Yesterday we also discovered that our basement hadn't come through quite as unscathed as we'd hoped and apparently water has been seeping up through the foundation.  So the morning was a last minute scramble to towel up as much moisture as we could, set up every fan we own, and try to keep the moisture from getting up into the drywall.  Needless to say, in the rush to get things done and out the door (to try and beat the INSANE traffic), I forgot to put dinner in the crockpot.

I've also been instructed to try and make up some of the hours from the office closures last week, so I had a long day at the office, coupled with a nasty commute home and more carpet triage in the evening.  Needless to say, goals kinda took a back seat.

Mission 1 Strong (0/5): Basically never stopped moving until it was time for bed.  Didn't get much in.

Mission 2 Healthy (1 meal): Forgot to start dinner in the morning and really didn't have time in the evening.  Made a quick run for fast food.  :-/

Mission 3 Good Behavior (1/14): Did the bedtime routine.

Supplemental Sleep (1 point): We switched out all the wall outlets over the weekend and installed blackout shades...  I didn't realize that my paranoid hubby had unplugged EVERYTHING (including the alarm clock) from the walls to avoid any fire risk (?!?) and blackout shades meant my usual backup alarm (our dog who gets up at sunrise like clockwork) failed me.  I got up at 6:07 and was in bed by 9:27.  Didn't even read.  Just conked.

Awe, poor Fluffy :(. Sucks, we had flooding in my area a few weeks back and it was pretty terrible. One of the local businesses didn't have flood insurance and their entire basement filled. It's horrid and completely understandable that you didn't do much of anything!

But, you did do your night routine (awesome btw). So, considering what happened I say you're still off to a strong start. Carry on!

Yeah, to be honest, I feel terrible complaining about the little bit of water damage we've had.  It ruined carpet we were planning to replace anyway, but the timing is a little earlier than we'd hoped.  All things considered, I'm ok with how yesterday went.

Ah, life happens. Don't despair. You can get it on track.

Thanks.  :)  I'm geared up to get on track today.

The rain has been INSANE.  The water blew through 100 year flood plains within hours.  Luckily it has been sunny all day today, so hopefully things will start to dry out quickly.

Stay dry and safe!  Glad you got in some of your goals with all that craziness going on.  That is dedication!

Haha!  Thanks.  You'd think with a couple extra days to prepare I'd have been on top of this challenge, but alas.  :)  No place to go but up!

We let people slide a bit for natural disasters.  My go-to emergency meal is an omlet - I can make an omlet as fast as I can go get fast food.

lol.  Fair enough.  For a while we had some frozen pre-cooked chicken that we could microwave, but to be honest, I was just mentally spent.  It was as much a comfort/binge move as a practical one...  But food is in the crockpot for tonight and I made enough to use for the next two days.  So tonight is already taken care of.  :)

Well, this sounds like a fun way to start a challenge!! Yikes. Good on you for getting your goals up and starting to work on a few of them. Now that the weather is less biblical, maybe life will stop throwing curveballs at you for the next six weeks.

flossing is so important!  I spent 3 weeks of the last challenge recovering from a gum graft surgery - it was not fun and my challenge never recovered from my recovery (oh well).  flossing - that's an awesome goal.  I considered putting a goal like "rub lotion into my feet at bedtime" because they deserve it with the beating they take with crossfit and C25K.  but I got distracted.  dang.  I might have to go back and edit.

good luck with your carpet and the aftermath of the flooding in your neighborhood.  keep flossing!  gum surgery sucks!!

I lived through the floods in Nashville a couple years ago so I feel your pain. We were lucky and our house didn't suffer, but we were trapped for about a week as our neighborhood is surrounded by a creek and all the roads were washed out. There are still places trying to recover.

Your goals are solid and you can rock it this challenge! :D

I know, right?  If it's not one thing, it will always be another.  Just gotta hope that the rains hold off for a few days so things can actually dry out a bit!

Oh no!  I'm a little concerned that I'm going to have those problems too.  Hopefully good habits will keep things in check.  And I'm a big proponent of editing away!  If the challenge isn't capturing everything you were hoping for, make it happen.  :)

Week 1 / Day 2 Status:

I was fighting a migraine/sinus headache all day, so I almost just said screw it on my workouts.  But I have been feeling so blah since I stopped working out, I just sucked it up and at least did something.  Holy cow have my squats suffered.  I'm back to needing post support again.  :-/

Mission 1 Strong (1/5):  Mini body weight routine:

Squats: 3 x 20

Incline Push-ups: 3 x 15 on the 3rd stair

Single Leg Deads: 3 x 8 (each leg) - was pretty much falling over by the end.

Mission 2 Healthy (1 meal): All meals for the day at home.

Mission 3 Good Behavior (3/14): Did both!

Supplemental Sleep (3 points): Up at 5:42 (snoozed once) and in bed by an embarrassingly early 8:48.  Switched off the lights and asleep by 9:30.

At least you guys are safe and that's all the matters. Poor CU and Boulder it got hit pretty hard. I think running around and pulling out carpet sounds like a workout to me! Long days at the office can definitely screw with cooking a good meal. You've still got half the week left to get on track with everything! Happy to hear you stayed dry.

Thanks!  Yeah, Boulder got hit hard.  I know a lot of people at my work are still absent because they either can't get down out of the mountains or they are still working to recovery their homes.  We definitely got lucky.

Week 1 / Day 3 Status:

Yesterday was a pretty good day.  We did a little more work to get the basement in order but I managed to get the kitchen picked up a bit and got my workout in.

Mission 1 Strong (2/5):  Went for a run.  20 minutes, suffered pretty much the whole way.  And it was painfully slow.  Finished it off with a 0.25 hill... I thought I was going to hurl at the end.  But I finished.  Definitely reminded me why I shouldn't be so flaky about consistent exercise.

Mission 2 Healthy (1 meal): All meals for the day at home again.

Mission 3 Good Behavior (5/14): Did both routines.  Almost forgot my vitamins, but remembered right as I was about to doze off.

Supplemental Sleep (5 points): Up at 5:30 (no snoozes!) and barely made it by jumping in bed by 9:27.  Switched off the lights and asleep by 10:10.

Week 1 / Day 4 Status:

Yesterday was a rest day from working out.  My legs are still sore this morning.  Need to do some extra stretches at my desk, I suppose.

Mission 1 Strong (2/5):  Rested.  Did more work restoring the basement and checked out some replacement flooring options...  We might just bite the bullet and redo the entire basement floors now, rather than putting in some temp flooring to just replace the carpets.  Gotta see what the total costs would be first...

Mission 2 Healthy (2 meals): Got to go out to lunch with one of my girlfriends.  It was delish and not too out of control (both price and health-wise).

Mission 3 Good Behavior (7/14): Did both routines.

Supplemental Sleep (6 points): In bed by 9:30, but didn't sleep well so stayed in bed until 6:05.
