Becoming Batgirl

Recommended Posts

I only joined the site a few days ago but I'm up for a challenge.

Main Quest: Lose 80 pounds.  Starting weight is 219 so that would put me at 139.  This goal doesn't have a time limit.

Side Quest #1: Heavy weight lifting 2x per week, weights/cardio circuit 1x per week and cardio at least 2x per week

    A: 30 workouts in 6 weeks

    B: 27 workouts

    C: 24 workouts

    D: 21 workouts

    F: 18 or fewer workouts

Side Quest #2: Consume less than 1800 calories per day (obviously this means I have to count them)

Grading system: Give myself a daily grade and take the average

   A: <1800 calories

   B: >1800 and <1900 calories

   C: >1900 and <2000 calories

   D: >2000

   F: Didn't count calories

Side Quest #3: Give up french fries (seriously they're my favorite food)

Grading: Give myself a weekly grade and take the average

   A: No fries

   F: ate some fries

Life Side Quest: Finish my current sewing projects by the end of October (husband's Star Wars Imperial officer uniform and daughter's homecoming dress)

   A: Finished both projects

   C: Finished one project

   F: Didn't finish anything

Motivation: I want to be fit and healthy and be a good example for my family.  Also I want to rock a Batgirl costume at San Diego Comic Con next year.

Great goals! I will be following you because you are part of the Bat family and we must look out for each other... and Gotham.

I love French Fries too. Unfortunately, they are one of the worst foods for you aside from frying a candy bar (also delicious).

Have you been to SDCC before? I've been wanting to go for a while. I'm just on the other side of the country and flights are so freakin' expensive, but one day hopefully. I would have the same goal too. Walking around in some sweet, sweet Bat gear looking all heroic:)

I'm a time traveler, but I can only go one way and only a second at a time.

I'm from San Diego but this year was my first time going to SDCC.  I live in AZ so it's not a crazy long drive.  I go to local conventions all the time though.  Next one is Tucson Comic Con in November.  My husband and I are going as members of the Court of Owls (relatively new Batman villains if you're not reading Batman.)  They look like this:

Nice challenge, Batgirl.

What are you going to use to track calories? And may I suggest for a first challenge that you worry more about tracking and less about how much? Tracking can be a real help, and by itself can have a "wag the dog" effect. But it is really easy to "forget" to log for a day (or a week) if you have a slip up... and you will have slip ups. Planning for those is the key to success.

Best of luck, can't wait to see how you do this challenge.

If you could see me as I read this post, little hearts would probably be popping out of me. The Court of Owls was an awesome story line and they are great villains. A legion of villains that knows Gotham better than Batman is a brilliant concept. After I read the first volume with the crazy maze section and Batman on the ropes, I could have kissed Scott Snyder. Really great. I've never read Batman issue to issue, but I'm trying to now.

Also, that costume will be AWESOME!

Do you listen to Kevin Smith's Fatman on Batman? It's a podcast devoted to Batman and talking to people that have been involved with Batman. It is amazing.

There is so much I have to read in the Bat Universe. I just picked up Paul Dini/Bruce Timm's Mad Love. I grew up watching the animated series, so anything with those men's names attached to it I have to consume.

Log for the day:

Workout: 45 minutes step aerobics
Food: 1851 calories. A little more than I was shooting for but I didn't have any snack or eat any garbage so I'm calling it a good day

Breakfast: Green Smoothie with spinach, mango, almonds, cocoa and dates

Lunch: Leftover veggie enchiladas (too many calories but crazy delicious)

Snack: Didn't have one because lunch was too many calories

    Dinner: Veggie Pad Thai
Life: I didn't do any sewing today :( I got home late and then I had to cook dinner and eat and pack my lunch for tomorrow

So I think it was a successful first day even though my muscles have been screaming at me all day from yesterday's workout (means I did it right).

During my workout this morning I had one of those moments where my hands were busy and I could feel a bead of sweat rolling down my forehead and I was like, "Please don't go in my eye! Please don't go in my eye! Please don't go in my eye!"

I will absolutely post pictures of my projects when they consist of more than pattern peices on my living room floor.  My husband's costume that I'm working on is for the 501st so there will be many, many pictures.

Also, I know I'm only a day and a half in but other than having sore muscles and feeling a little snackish (not hungry but would like to be munching on something), I'm feeling pretty awesome right now.  I'm feeling more motivated than I've felt in a long time.

Hi Batgirl! You are AMAZING! I love that you already have a grading system in place. Personally when I saw the A-F thing I thought-- A for Awesome, B for above average, C for average, D for substandard and F for failure. You have given me a lot to think about tonight. I live about two hours away from Tucson and had no idea that they had any kind of Comic Con events. Do you have to dress up? I want to start doing this too... but the only comics I have read are the Walking Dead series. I will definitely keep following your thread because I know I can learn something from you. And french fries are evil, just plain evil. Keep up the good fight, okay!

I like numbers.  I'm weird like that.  Tucson comic con is the first weekend in November at the Tucson Convention Center.  I think this will be the fourth year.  Dressing up is not a requirement :) Oh, and it's stupidly cheap.  It's something like $10 for the whole weekend.  I'm in a costuming group called the Justice League AZ and we dress up at conventions, collect money for charity, go to community events, visit hospitals, stuff like that.  It's a lot of fun.

My day was mostly awesome yesterday.

Workout: 45 minute cardio/weight circuit

Food: 1583 calories

Breakfast: Green Smoothie with banana, pineapple, cantaloupe, kale, hemp seeds and silken tofu

Lunch: Hummus and veggie wrap and a plum

    Snack: Hummus and baby carrots

Dinner: Veggie pizza and a big salad

Sewing Projects: Got some pattern pieces cut out.  My husband is crazy tall so I have to make pattern pieces with all the adjustments and then make sure those fit before I can cut out the real thing.

Good luck Batgirl!

Your husband's costume sounds like it will be super fun!

I am sure you will make an awesome batgirl at comiccon. You are never too old to put on a superhero costume. It's magic.
