Great goals!! I guess I'm a bit late commenting on the very beginning of this thread, but oh well.  I'm doing a whole30 too, starting tomorrow.  And I love photography... especially food photography, so if you'd like any tips let me know  :rolleyes-new:

How's your fitbit going AB? Do you find it annoying to wear or not notice it now you've had it for a while?

I'm still thinking of getting one, mainly because I'm interested to know how many steps I do after seeing yours!

Hi Katia :)  Yeah the bikini was quite an awesome thing AND it was smaller than i would normally have thought to buy (not the top of course, but that's a challenge for some other time).

I am so excited about Brazil, but also totally nervous because i'm worried that with so few days between the end of my working year and the trip, i'm going to run out of time to do everything.  As it is i keep remembering and forgetting that i need to get a yellow fever shot.

That is so awesome! How great that you got a smaller size!!!

I think you'll be able to get it all done. Especially since you've been prepping this whole time. It will come together! Although, yeah, please take care of that shot ;)

Glad your goals are going well this first week! I love your story about jogging next to preggers Miss SA—and then going to lift heavy things. HA! So great. Do you think your DOMS were worse because you were really focusing on form? I find that happens to me when I really focus on targeting the muscles I'm supposed to be using in a movement, often times it will hurt in a whole new way!

I use the Fitbit one and love it.  I tuck mine clipped on the inside of my pockets.  I don't think i have even caught it on anything.

AB, you are doing great!  I understand your DOMs issue at work and trying to get around, I actually crawled through the house with my daughter the other day because it was easier than trying to stand up of the floor.....  Isn't it crazy what a difference it makes when your squat movement goes the 'full range of motion'

This is why I'm hesitant about even doing squats.  Between all the threads I've read over the past 7ish months, it seems lots of ppl either do them incorrectly and injure themselves, or they push themselves to the point of this.  I do a couple of bodyweight squats and that's it.

Actually, now that I'm on the subject, my g/f has trouble with her knee popping/hurting when she does squats at zumba.  Anyone else have this happen?  Is there something to do to fix it?

I have a crappy knee. The key to squats for me is to make sure that I get below parallel. That is defined as the crease of the thigh lower than the top of the knee. If you go below parallel the hamstrings are doing the bulk of the work and it takes the shearing forces off the knee. Stopping above parallel puts a shearing force on the knee joint. If she has that weird grinding noise (chondromalaccia) there isn't much to so for that. I have an untreated torn meniscus and I can squat as long as I make sure I got below parallel.

Hope your restful weekend is going great, AB. I'm glad the squat vid I posted helped you out - it's one of the best ones I've seen, too. It really inspired me to get my form worked out! Not to mention, as joedog says above, you gotta get below parallel to get both the benefits and stop injury.

And, thanks to your awesome inspirational W30, I'm nearly through day 3 sugar free. Maybe the longest I've gone, ever. All thanks go to you!!

Keep rocking it, AB!

Nope :( I have it too, after I went to see a bone & joint specialist (bonus points for it being my mother-in-law's place of business) he pretty much told me that I had an arthritic build up that made my knee sound like a washboard being played when I go from bent to extended. I'm still determined that I can squat safely, though. He thinks I'll have a better time with some rehabbing around the joint. If you'd like, I can type up some of the exercises he suggested I try?

And since this is Blaidd's thread :D I can't believe your trip to Brazil is so close! Props for trying Whole30. I haven't gotten that daring yet xD

hehehe.  Today it's 35 days. OMG 35 days!!!!!

Yeah this is my 2nd time round.  It's a little harder, but i'm thoroughly enjoying it.  I did my first one on a complete whim and was petrified but i made it through so well, that i am no longer afraid of trying things that scare me.

hehehe, i would think that Jo is a much better inspiration to go sugar free. i totally sucked at it til i did my first W30 :)

i have moving kneecaps to, but no funny sounds and it doesn't interfere with my squats.

actually if you do a squat properly, it shouldn't injure you too much.  But honestly DOMS should be no reason not to do something and make sure you have proper rest intervals between sets and lifting.

Glad you're looking forward to a relaxing weekend, Blaidd! Hope it's restoring for you!

it was lovely :)

yeah also don't notice mine.

Still have to get the shot but at least i've got it booked :)  thank goodness my normal doctor does them.  I've now got my packing lists all ready and i've noticed that the only thing missing are my maxi dresses, which my aunt has agreed to help me make them the weekend after next.

i love my fitbit.  I wear it on my bra and i don't even notice that i have it on. It's so small i haven't really noticed it since i got it.

doesn't matter how late you join, you're always welcome here :)

Oh i might hit you up on some tips for food photography but that will probably only come at a much later date :)

Ok,

now I'm drooling......this sounds amazing and I will now be adding it to my rotation.

I hope you have a great weekend and I look forward to maybe seeing some photos from your walk.

yeah the DOMS are so much worse now that i have it right.  My DOMS lasted almost 3 days - lol.

I had a lovely weekend.  I went to my last chiro appointment on Friday and it was lovely - we did spinal alignment and then a sonar - i was a well aligned ragdoll after, but it was fantastic. Jay and I spent the evening watching movies - it was blissful.  Saturday morning i ran some errands and then i went to my aunt, i literally spent the day with them.  I spent alone time with each of my cousins just catching up (the one is writing her high school finals and the other is trying to figure out what he should do about his long distance gf).  My aunt was so impressed with how i'm looking (including how healthy i look) that her and my cousin were very interested in Whole30, so i chatted to them about it and my aunt is going to give it a go - she was diagnosed with an enlarge fatty liver recently so it's a good thing for her. They made sushi for dinner and i made a riceless sushi salad, which everyone landed up wanting too :)  I also made them lunch earlier and taught them that W30 wasn't all as boring as it seems strict.

I spent Sunday morning cleaning (like 2.5hrs of sweaty cleaning). Then went on my photo walk then went to watch the rugby (with Jay).  He doesn't seem to like the idea of me spending long days away from him, lol. Too bad for him.

Week 1 Summary

Quest 1: If you can't run, you can at least walk

I did a few walks, but i could certainly have done more :)

Measurement: 39944 steps

Rating: A

Quest 2: How do you get strong and fit when you don't train

I swam 500m, wogged 20 minutes and managed a 45min lifting session.

Measurement: 3 workouts

Rating: A

Quest 3: Eating it right this time

wegh. i was sooo tempted to have baked goods - not cake or anything but samoosas - and i was tempted to have the sushi too, but had salad instead.  I craved ice cream, but that's about it.  No other yucky feelings or headaches or bloating.  It's the end of week 1, so let's see how the thing goes.

Side Quest: Learn to use my new camera

i learnt about aperture, shutter speed and ISO.  So i went out thinking about all that and took some photos.  These are my favourites.  I only took photo's of flowers (i went to my favourite place - the rose garden). I'll take different types of pics next week.

Sounds like you had yourself a good weekend. Glad to see that Whole30's made such an awesome impact for you that it's bringing other people in. Good stuff.

Great first week! I think your Whole30 is a great inspiration for sugar free. My sugar free challenge still had a lot of crap food in it. W30 is really getting all that nasty stuff cleaned out of your body and learning a new way to think about food. We can either fight about who is the better inspiration (You Are!! No You are!!) or just accept that we both are doing good stuff on getting the crap food gone! (I vote acceptance.)

hehehe, ok we'll go with acceptance, but you inspired me :)

Well done Blaidd.  I almost went with a photo goal this challenge too, just to try to get better at taking pictures :)

yeah definitely give it a go.  I am loving the photo goal, but it's mostly a weekend thing.

Nice pics.  And nice job on the first week.  Sounds like you won some major victories over temptation - that always feels good.  Nice job!   :encouragement:

i hope that these victories begin to negate temptation and they will no longer be tempting :)

Day 8:  Not much to report in way of goals, but it was a good day.  I was busy at work (which i love), i was threatened with bodily harm (jokingly) if i never wear my hair the way it was yesterday and i spent the evening hanging out with Jay.

I made a yummy pork taco salad that i discovered on my last W30 and that we've incorporated into our normal meal plan, because Jay actually really likes it (I'm getting him to eat more veggies, yay).  My zen approach to life is working out for me.

Q1: 5022 steps

Q2: no workout

Q3: Lunch - salad (spinach, pineapple, tomato, cucumber, peppers, olives) + grilled chicken + lamb chop; Supper - Pork Taco Salad

So a pic of my hair from yesterday (oh and no more double chin - yay).

So glad you passed up the temptations and are sticking with the Whole30 again. You've done it before so you know you can do it this time, too. And I love your flower photos! And you're looking really healthy and happy! Brava, Blaidd!

What's the flower top right? I like that one, looks a bit like a snapdragon.

You are so giving with your family, gives me warm and fuzzies so I imagine they love it even more.

*inappropriate wolf whistle* Looking good girl :positive: You're shrinkkkking!!
