Main Quest:

To build up a solid foundation of habits to propel me towards my ultimate goal of being a master of my own body weight.
 
Mission #1: Convict Conditioning New Blood program  (+2 STR, +1 DEX, +1 CHA)
  • Two workouts per week, alternating with pushups/leg raises on one day and pullups/squats on the other.
Mission #2: 0 to 1650 swim challenge.  (+3 STA, +1 CON)
  • Had difficulties with this last challenge mostly due to sickness and other unexpected circumstances.
  • Will continue starting at week 3 of the plan.  
Mission #3: Recovery. Lights out by 10pm each night.  (+2 CON, +1 WIS)
  • To support recovery on my workouts and a fresh, clear mind for work and training.
Life Mission: Study Android Development 8 focused hours per week outside of work.  (+2 WIS, +2 CHA)
  • I have long neglected my career training. This will be a first step to getting back where I should be.
  • I will likely have a lot of time to work on this at work, so my goal is based on personal time spent versus an amount of material covered.

Creative mini-challenge. The creative mini-challenge will start on Monday, November 11 and will last the whole challenge (aka 6 weeks). As the name may suggest, you will be asked to do some creative media according to a theme.

Okay, so to start off my challenge, my weight is at about 197 lbs.  I haven't lost anything in the last week or two and I'm so close to my goal weight.  Even though I did not make it part of my challenge this time, I'm going to make a final push to get to that goal weight.  For the next 2-3 weeks I need to be razor sharp on my food choices.  I don't want to stretch this out any more.  My swimming will be critical as well since it will help me to burn considerably more calories each week.  If I can achieve my goal weight by the end of week #3, I will count this as extra credit +1 on my counts for one of my goals (my choice).

I really envy this "perfect swim". Swimming, like running, is something I'm just no good at.

 

Thanks!  Perfect is of course relative.  Perfect in the sense of the parameters I set for it with breaks and breaths and such.  I am far from a great swimmer.  I pretty much stick to freestyle.  I've never learned Butterfly.  I'd love to learn someday, though I'm a bit self-conscious to actually try or take a class.  Also, I'm not a runner either.  I've tried it and never really cared for it.  I don't think I'd ever be or want to be a distance anything (runner, swimmer, etc).  I am building a base for my swimming to swim 1 mile non-stop.  I don't plan to really ever swim much further than that unless I get a lot faster.  I will start doing more intervals and maybe drills.

It is a challenge like any other.  I have a goal to master pull-ups also.  That seems very daunting to me, but I have a plan to progress up to that.  I think too many people focus on the end of where they want to be and get discouraged thinking about how much work and time it will take to get there.  I try not to think to much about how difficult the end goal would be for me right now.  I use it only for direction.  Hopefully I will reach it some day, but if not, I've still brought myself closer and will be in better shape than I am now.

Thanks Ash!  I'm trying.  I think my toughest to maintain is going to be the life goal.  Studying 8 hours per week and not neglecting work, family, or personal responsibilities is going to be tough.  I know I have time that I currently waste and this is very important for me to do so, I WILL DO IT!  I just added another 30 minutes for a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes for this week.  Still a ways to go, but should be able to find time over the weekend.

Are you doing full Horizontal Pulls or are you modifying them to make them easier?  Mine are modified as I indicated with the bar set at about the middle of my chest and my knees bent so that they assist me.

Are you doing full Horizontal Pulls or are you modifying them to make them easier? Mine are modified as I indicated with the bar set at about the middle of my chest and my knees bent so that they assist me.

Mine are unmodified, as far as I can tell. And my table isn't at hip height, it's at mid-level of my upper thighs. I haven't found anything more suitable yet.
