Mir got talked into doing a challenge

Okay so I wasn't sure I was going to do one again, but I miss the community and the accountability. I don't know if I'll be great at posting on other people's stuff because I kind of feel like my life is a clusterfuck right now. Some of that is due to me being really good at beating myself up, but some of it is shit I need to get in order. Because I'm an adult, dammit. I gotta vag up at some point.

 

However, this challenge is not going to be my typical balls-to-the-wall, do everything challenge. Before I get my shit together, I need to get my mental health in order. So, I'm working on healing myself this challenge.

 

Main mission: Get to a place where I am happy and (mentally) healthy (or at least well-adjusted). Make decisions I can be proud of every day (thanks for that, Mom). Become the kind of person I want to be - the kind of person I know I am inside. I am intelligent, funny, fun to be with, driven, ambitious, and intuitive. I am social, empathetic, and I like to help people.  I'm sure there are a lot of other awesome things I could say about myself, but those are what come to mind at the moment.

 

Goal #1: Do at least one thing every week to combat depression.

 

This could be doing an activity even though I don't feel like it (going for a walk, a run, something to get me out of my head - reading, sleeping, playing video games, watching tv/movies, and being on the computer don't count), going to a therapy session (although I have yet to actually get anything set up - not my fault, I'm waiting for callbacks), pretty much anything that might help. Suggestions welcome!

 

Goal #2: Take my meds. Every day.

 

I have gotten better at this but I am not perfect. I need to set up a system where I can take them every day and it does not rely being at work.

 

Goal #3: Do something every week to destress.

 

Again, no video games here. This is more of an organization/to-do/planning kind of thing. Can also be replaced by once-a-week journaling.

 

And that's it.

I love mah nerds. You guys are the best.

 

I should also say that I plan on sticking with the gym. I was back to it for about 4 weeks (after a 6-week break, eek!) and then I got a pinched nerve...and then I got lazy. And once I'm in the routine of the gym, it's not challengey for me to go. And it definitely helps me feel better. Today will be day 3 back and holy hell I am sore. But - I've been here before, when I first started this program, and I made it through. So - yes.

 

Swoledemort - to answer your question, I waffle between agnostic and atheist...so...not really. If I chose to identify with anything, it would probably be some of the Eastern faith stuff - Buddhism, really, although I don't know a *ton* about it so I can't really speak to that.

Oh girl I am so there. I took a few months off going regularly, and now that I'm trying to make gym going a thing again, I hurt allllllll over all the time. But it'll be worth it to get back to the routine and have going to the gym be the default again.

Totally. I'm on 2nd-day DOMS. I have no idea how I'm going to make it to the gym. Hahaha. :)

This is an AWESOME challenge.  You know, life is often best lived when it's not balls to the wall.  Seriously.  There is so much other stuff out there and happy is much more important.

 

And you deserve happy.  You really really do.

In a psych class I took, we discussed Eastern religions and she said something to the effect of, "Many people say these aren't really religions, they're science." And not in a "they can be proven" way, but more in a psychology way. Like stages of stuff or whatever. I can't remember. After she said that, my perspective shifted a little. Anyway, she only said that b/c there was anger in the class that we were 1. covering Eastern religions and 2. NOT covering Christianity. So her answer may have been total BS. But it was weird that we went from covering psychologists, etc. and suddenly there's a whole chapter on religion.

Anyway, yay you're back! Lots of us (you, PH, me, IIPI) chasing our old weight numbers. Not to get there in one challenge, but to focus on the road back. So we'll all walk together!

Yay chasing old PRs! I really want to get back into it so if I am able to come in January I can put up some respectable numbers...instead of the same ones I did in May. That would be...kind of embarrassing.

 

I agree - Eastern religions seem much more based on philosophies and that kind of stuff rather than worshipping some deity. So maybe that's why I identify with them more?
