So it's time for a second challenge, and i think for this one i'm going to step it up a gear, story line and everything, so hear goes.

 

It's a cold Monday morning (the 11th of November coincidentally) as i wake from a long nights sleep, the past 6 weeks work have been tough, both mentally and physically. And then suddenly i realize, i'm not at home in my own bed, but in a stone room, cold and damp. And it is at this point i realize I've been taken captive, it is up to me to find a means of escape. I look out of my (i'm assuming) cell window, down i can't even see whats below the building i'm in, can't go that way. Must go up, but my first challenge is to escape this room, and find and kill whoever put me here. Better get to it.

 

 

Main quest.

 

So my main quest is simple, and has two major components: To be able to climb all of the red routes at my local bouldering center (these get changed often, so ill keep improving hopefully), these are grades v3-v5. And to be able to climb a yellow route, v4-v6. This will help tremendously with the escape plan. In order to do this, i am going to need to increase both my strength, and endurance. My motivation for this is simply i want to be in the best shape i've been in my life, and feel more comfortable in my skin. I feel by getting fit and strong enough to do a v5-v6, ill feel that way!

 

Main quest goals:

  1. Climb 3-4 times a week (minimum) , one of which can be the fitness class the center runs. (+0.1 strength and dexterity for every two sessions of climbing).
  2. Try and cycle once a week, (these last 5 or so pounds aren't going to shift themselves). (+0.2 Sta for every bike ride attended).
  3. Eat as clean as possible, my last challenge was pretty good on the paleo side of things, around 90% i think. The only times non paleo were when i stopped at my girlfriends house, and needed some breakfast. (+1 con, if i eat as clean as possible, only one "cheat" per week)-by cheat i mean a sensible cheat- some dark chocolate, one can of diet coke etc.

Life Quests.

 

So earlier in the academic year i rediscovered my love for juggling (diabolo specifically), so for my life quest i am DETERMINED to be able to do two diabolos properly, i've kind of got it sorted atm, but it needs finishing, and to be able to do a two diabolo sprinkler. (+1 con)

 

To catch up on all lecture noted (i'm normally pretty good with this, so this should just be extra motivation) +1 wis

 

So that's about it for my challenge i think, my grading will go as follows:

 

A = all targets achieved that week (unless a good excuse i.e ilness)

B= all but one goals achieved that week, etc etc, my overall grade will be the average of my 6 weekly grades. (i'll take mean and modal, and the lowest of the two will be my grade.)

 

I think weekly along with grades i'll keep the story updated to keep things fun! I think for this challenge i will keep exercise logs of all my climbing sessions to keep me extra motivated!

I'm also going to do press ups, pull ups, squats etc at home, so every ten minutes of revision, go and do some pullup etc, same applied for the tv.

 

 

EDIT: Although i havent done my weekly updates like i promised, i do feel like things went very well! So my grades i think should be:

 

+1 STA as i managed around 6/7 bike rides due to weather
+1 str +1 DEx as i managed 20 climbs in total at my centre
+1 con as i managed my Diabolo trick! woop woop on this one!

 

And although it wasnt a part of my goal for this challenge, i weighed myself on my parents set of bathroom scales (my "constant" ones) and have managed to lose 8lbs whilst managing to tone up too! (+0.5 Con/Cha).

 

Overall for the challenge i think i'll grade myself A-, as although i've hit my goals the food hasnt been as clean as it could have been (only a few setbacks!) looking forward to getting on to my next challenge!!

Yay!  More climbers!  I'm so jealous that you can even have as a goal to be able to climb all of the V3-V5 routes.  I still have to work my butt off for several weeks to get a V3.  I can't wait to read about your climbing adventures.  :)

It took me so long to be able to get into the reds! Just keep climbing and it'l happen! Us climbers need to stick together!

I put extended axles and the giant kits on them. I do some hand grinds that its useful for. Almost had to make a new axle for it because its so wide. I should get some lights for them

I think my ideal super hero would be something like batman but more assassin like than in the recent movies, not sure what i'd call it, but thats the idea i'm going for. Definitley not going to be super slim, my frame is a little too heavy for that, but i want to be as lean as possible, and i think a more assassin orientated version i think. Any ideas on names? Bring on the next six weeks! I might try and design what an outfit would look like!

First climbing session of the challenge went AWESOME! Managed to complete 3 new routes at my climbing centre which ive been struggling with for a few sessions, all around v4. Finished the session of with 5 sets of the campus board (using the balls to climb), so around 5 sets of no feet climbing for about 8 foot! My goal for the rest of the challenge is to be able to do a set using campus rungs! (little bar things, awesome for crimp work), Not a whole session of campus rungs, just once up will be a good goal!

Quick update, the climbing is going awesome, nailed around 6 new climbs this week, over half of the red routes done! Diet is going well too! Good luck to everyone else out there embarking on challenges of their own!

Now inspired to add climbing in the next challenge. Ive always wanted to start, just dont want to pay for the local climbing gym and there are no great places to climb about the area. Good luck to you, Sir!

Diabolo is pretty fantastic as well. There are alot of spinners around here that have them. Im partial to contact juggling myself.

It's worth paying for the climbing gym! i'm paying £40 a month for my climbing gym (don't know how much that is in funny money), and i could get a good ocal gym for around £15 (with bad ass equipment too, no fancy stuff), so it is more expensive, but ALOT more worth it for me! Also juggling is awesome! Always on the look out for fellow jugglers!

Climbing gyms are really expensive here but so more fun than a "normal" gym :D  So it's totally worth it! Climbing outside is nice, but too dependent of the weather, when it just rained and the rock is all slippery my brain just says "no!" and I agree with it :D

Yeah climbing gyms here in Nottingham (England), are little over double for me as a student, but i definitley agree its alot better than weights! And yeah i live right in the centre of England, so some fantastic rocks i could be climbing if i had a car! :(

Feeling a bit mixed tiday, made a few poor diet choices today due to not taking a lunch to Uni so had to buy a sandwich h, and needed change for the bus so had to buy some chocolate to break into a note! Never mind, no time for sulking. The good news: weighed myself in today, and I've lost around 5-6 pounds in the past Month or so which is good! Only 3 pounds ish left to my target weight! So my goals for the rest of the week are:

100% paleo. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt a fast, no meals until dinner. Then the other two days, a 16/8 cycle, I feel quote good with no breakfast, so need to get back into that! And going to attempt to get two bouldering sessions in, and a bike rude Saturday morning if the weather allows!

Grades for the week, going to give myself a c, got out climbing 3 times, one move from doing my first proper v5 which is good progress! Diet hasnt been great though, this next week will be my week!

V5! It seems so far to me :D I just solved one V4 so far and am not sure I'll manage to do it again before long. I can't wait to see that problem solved! And keep on fighting for these 3 pounds, you're on the right track, no sulking, just fighting!

Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, the V5 is so frustrating! The majority of the reds im finishing off (around 1/5th of the ones to go) are at the v4/v5. Going to the fitness class my centre runs tomorrow night, hopefully meet some climber friends!

Off for my third climbing session of the week! Got my eyes set on a couple of climbs (2 v4's and a v5) BRING IT ON!

Climbing is going well, managed to get a new v4 under my belt, and SO close to getting another 2 v5's. So i have one move to go to complete two v5's then another two moves for my third, going to take a few days off, and go back monday for a re match!

Last week at uni before i go home for the christmas holidays! Going to try and get a few v5's down this week, but then i have a month of no climbing, any idea son how to keep my strength up? Any good gym routines?
