Vella
OK, so Spiderman has this stuff covered already. Sure.I'm just sayin' - if that radioactive spider comes this way, I've got to be ready. So, if I'm going to take up that mantle if it's ever required of me, I'm going to need some basic skills.I'm going to need to learn some parkour, so I'm sure as heck going to need to get stronger. I'll never be able to use that web-slinging to my advantage if I can't actually climb the buildings when I get there. THEREFORE!Main quest challenges:Practice parkour at least once per week. This includes attending jams when they occur and I'm free to go (excuses for skipping include exams, essay due within 48 hours, sickness requiring a visit to the doctor. Excuses do not include 'I stayed up too late last night', 'I'm tired', or 'I have the sniffles'. Crime waits for no sniffles. Gym at least twice a week, in addition to the above. Workout will be the bodyweight workout from the Nerdfitness strength training handbook thing, and I will continue this workout for the whole challenge before I make any adjustments (barring physical injury, current or imminent). My brain keeps trying to change up my workout because it's freaking out that I'm doing things "wrong". I need to actually stick with something for a while, then figure out what needs to change. Decrease bodyfat percentage to 20 or below. Because it's really difficult to swing over those rooftops while you're carrying a little extra. I am at around 25% now, maybe a little more (calipers are on the way for more precise measurements), so I feel this is doable if I put my mind to it. Maybe. WHO KNOWS WE'RE GIVING IT A SHOT ANYWAY.However, Spiderman doesn't only have his crime-fighting life to think about, and neither should I. I mean, real life has its charms, too. THEREFORE:Life Quest:Finish the first draft of my current novel by the end of the challenge. This is my little nod to the fact that essays stopped me doing NaNoWriMo this year. The novel I'm working on is 43,000 words in as of today, and progress is about to get slower as essays hit (and as much as I like the idea of finishing the novel, I dislike the idea of failing this semester more). So, here's my motivation to get my essays out of the way early, and get the novel finished! And perhaps the most important question of all: What's my motivation?I'm here purely for selfish reasons. I'm not overweight to the point of health problems, I've got no children to be around later in life to see.I'm here because I'm sick of looking in the mirror and wondering why I'm so damned lazy.I'm here because I see all these fit, strong people in books, movies, and so on, and thinking how cool it would be to be able to do some of that stuff ... but never working up the motivation to get in and work for it.I'm here because I cannot wait to rock up for Christmas at the family gathering, put on a swimsuit (Aussie Christmas - beaches are a necessity) and have abs that nobody expected. And I'm here because Spiderman is awesome. 1 Previous challenges: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Link to comment
Cookie351
Dearest Vella, there must be some sort of shared brain thing going on here. I recently (as in yesterday) decided I was going to be Iron Man, and another friend has been Batman for a long time. Spiderwoman would be a most welcome addition XD Let us become superheroes together! 1 Level 2 Mountain Dwarf, Female, Age 20.Training to become Pepper Potts, and on standby to run away with the Doctor.Credit and all rights for my profile picture to pikalacynique on deviantart Link to comment

Batwoman
Oh I have arrived at the right place. Great goals! I'm curious about the parkour. Not sure what that entails exactly. Is it like running with flare? And I will leave with this. 1 I'm a time traveler, but I can only go one way and only a second at a time. Link to comment

Is it like running with flare? And I will leave with this. Hell yeah, Spiderman loves him some party. Parkour is basically what you get when you mix running around the city with an obstacle course. Look it up on YouTube - most of the videos you get are 'tricking' (deliberately doing flips off things), but you'll find a couple where people are just running and jumping over/under/across stuff. There's a good NerdFitness article about beginners' parkour, too Also, I declare that the Nerdfitness League of Superheroes is now a thing! StealingCovert
Hardcore parkour!!! I wouldn't consider you bettering yourself being selfish. I would say it is a noble and great goal to achieve. People who would label you selfish want to bring you down cause they don't work on them time. Good luck! I would however be really interested in pics or video of you doing parkour. If you would be comfy doing so if not best of luck. Zombiekiller25
What is your novel about? I have always wanted to be a writer since I was in grade school but I have always been too afraid to start. Glad to know you have made it so far already. Best of luck on your goals, I believe in you. The last three or four reps is what makes the muscle grow. This area of pain divides the champion from someone else who is not a champion. Vella
This novel is about a kid who gets apprenticed to the Ferryman (you know, dead souls, river to the afterlife kind of stuff), and the girl he meets who just doesn't seem to stay dead. Seriously, though, don't be afraid to start! If you love writing, just go for it. Even if you have to call your first novel a "practice" novel to stop yourself getting overwhelmed Do you know what you'd write about?NerdFitness challenges and NaNoWriMo are great motivators for just getting started with writing. So are writers' forums. There's no such thing as starting too late. Thanks for the luck, and the belief. I never know when I might need some of those. 1 Previous challenges: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Link to comment

Vella
I'm sure if it ever gets published, I'll be aaaaaalll over the Woot Room with it! OK, so here we go. Workouts planned, schedule made, overthinking completed. I've got tonight to write up to 50,000 words (because I like a nice, neat starting point), and then tomorrow, we begin. First workout is Tuesday. Tomorrow, I hand in the first of my November assignments.Come at me, radioactive spider. 1 Previous challenges: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Link to comment

Vella
Oh man, parkour! That is going to be awesome! Aaaandddd you're writing a book?! I can't wait to see your progress, I'm subscribing. Good luck :] Thanks! So my first day got off to a slow start. It's not a workout day, so there's that, but too much tourist-ing and not enough sleep over the weekend meant Vella was not an awake individual this morning, and in fact, did not make her class. This is fine. It's the first class I've missed for that course this semester. I just have to not do it again.I hit 50,000 words last night, so we're starting from a nice, round starting point for the novel. And I've been perfectly on track with diet today - lunch was a slight break from salads with lettuce-leaf wraps filled with my normal salad stuff, plus some tahini. I usually need to eat tahini with honey, but today I discovered capsicum is sweet enough to offset it, and this makes me so happy. Still waiting for bodyfat calipers to take measurements. For the rest of the afternoon, I'm printing off my first essay so I can hand it in, then after my Irish language class, borrowing library books for the next essay, then curling up with my readings, a nice pot of tea, and a movie. I might or might not be watching Treasure Planet. Which might or might not be just about my favourite animated movie ever (although it might or might not be second only to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and How To Train Your Dragon).I'm gonna get judged so hard for this post... Tomorrow is gym day. Updates of me making up for todays lethargy will be posted. Previous challenges: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Link to comment
