LostOne1775 Getting Ready for the Marines: Part 1

This challenge is going to be different from my other ones, because I've noticed that I have focused so much on physical goals that I neglected mental and spiritual. As a result I'm at a plateau with my workouts due to my mind putting up a wall I don't want to cross. It's my own personal goal to become the first female Marine sniper, and it won't happen if I make it a habit of giving in to all the negative voices in my head.

 

Achieving the Focus and Iron Will of Batman

Goal 1: CrossFit, H.I.I.T., or Weight Lifting 4x a week: As much as I am focusing on losing weight I cannot afford to neglect my strength. (Str. +3)

A+: 100% Completed with no misses.

A: 95% One or two missed.

B: 85% Only one workout a week.

F: 80% I need a good ass kicker pronto!

 

Goal 2: Meditate three times a day everyday: Meditating or praying will help me to train my mind to focus. Which I really need in order to get over the "wall". (Wis. +3, Char. +2)

A+: Not a meditation missed.

A: One or two missed.

B: A whole day and not a single OHM

F: I suck at this.

 

Goal 3: Study for the ASVAB every other day: I am not where I want to be in Math or the other subjects, I refuse to go into the Marines as a dunce! (Con. +3)

A+: Significantly increase my former ASVAB score from 53.

A: Only a slight increase.

B: No change whatsoever.

F: Anyone got a DUNCE cap?

 

Goal 4: Run and/or sprint everyday: This won't be ironclad, if I need to rest I'll take a day off so I won't risk getting shin splints. (Sta. +3)

A+: No excuses, no problems, just running!

A: Miss one day.

B: Two days missed in a row

F: It had better have been raining all 6 weeks!

 

Life Goal: Decrease down to a size 12: This is achievable, all I have to do is get rid of my butt gut, that's the only thing preventing me from fitting in smaller jeans. (Char. +2)

A+: I'm built like a diva, and I wear a size 12!

A: Can button and zip up.

B: Well I can get them on at least...

F: Wanna see me attempt the 23 clowns in a small car trick with these pants?

 

I'm hoping to finish this challenge with all my goals at A+. Then I would be two steps closer to being the correct weight to sign up for the Marines, plus fitting into smaller stuff will give me a good excuse to get some new clothes!

 

As far as my diet, I am actually doing very well, my sister has been helping me and keeping me accountable about what I eat. Plus, my stomach has now shrunk to the point where two pieces of pizza is to much. And I now hate the feeling of being to heavy after a meal, making most of what I eat at this moment light and healthy.

 

All of this is not just for the Marines right now, I have a Super Spartan race to prepare for!

I'm also glad that you see the mental & spiritual link to the physical side of things (you know I've commented on it more than once on my own threads).  Keep up that momentum, okay!

I have to say, I will be subscribing to this one. The Mental Physical and Spiritual state all coincide; if one is off, it will cause imbalance. I REALLY want to see you own this challenge!

Workout: Walk with my sister, Distance: 2.7 miles  Time: 1: 01 

Ran with the dogs this morning, Distance: 2.5 miles Time: 22.52.26

 

Spartan Abs 1.0        Rounds: 3

1. Burpees: 10   2. Burpee Pullup: 5   3. Burpee Pullup with Knee Raise: 3

4. Crunches: 15   5. Laying Leg Raise: 10   6. Hanging Knee Raise: 5

 

Breakfast: Black bean omelet and apple  Lunch: Green smoothie, banana, and a bit of dark chocolate   Dinner: A leftover pizza 

 

I did all my meditations and I have to say, it's actually gotten quiet in my head. I even took a small nap and it was the best sleep I've ever had!

 

Tomorrow I'm going to switch around my schedule so I can run this trail that's super long. I want to see how many miles it goes :P Also I'm now signed up to Kahn Academy for my math, so I'll be on that tomorrow to. At the end of this week I'll take the ASVAB on a practice test to see how I am so far.

 

I'll post my measurments and...before pics (I DON'T WANNA!) later. :nonchalance:

Aww, thanks, gal!  Ya know, now that I'm looking at the new challenge on the horizon next week, I think I might need to revisit the mental/spiritual side of things again.  I feel worn down (even if I had some great advances in my past two challenges.)

 

Great job on your pre-progress!  (get those pics up, at least for yourself, you gotta see this awesome progress you're making, srsly)

Aww, thanks, gal!  Ya know, now that I'm looking at the new challenge on the horizon next week, I think I might need to revisit the mental/spiritual side of things again.  I feel worn down (even if I had some great advances in my past two challenges.)

 

Great job on your pre-progress!  (get those pics up, at least for yourself, you gotta see this awesome progress you're making, srsly)

Yay! You are going to kill this challenge. Good for you for recognizing the need to address your spiritual and mental health as well--everything needs to be in balance!

 

Agree! I firmly believe there is a balance to everything.

Sprained my ankle running with my dogs :( thankfully it wasn't my franken one. But it's swollen up so no more running tomorrow. I'll just work on weight lifting for my upper body and abs tomorrow.

 

Breakfast: Apple, banana, and yogurt with vanilla, honey, cinnamon, and cayenne

Lunch: Turkey wraps, and black bean omelet

Dinner: Slow cooked chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, and a buttermilk biscuit

Had a rest day yesterday due to my ankle, plus my whole body was really hurting. I ended up taking a nap and just reclining and reading Monster Hunter International (Awesome book BTW I highly recommend it, lot's guns and Badass characters!).

 

Today I went for a walk with my sis, distance: 3.7 miles  Time: 1:10

And then did some relaxing Yoga, I wasn't ready to get back to running and lifting yet. But tomorrow for sure!

Have you ever tried Mountain Climbers? I had to do them in boot camp - their go to exercise. It's good for sustained shoulder work and of course legs. They count them in sets of four, like almost everything they made us do! Looks like this -- One-two-three-one: one-two-three-two: one-two-three-three: etc...

Keep at it, Wanna-Be-A-Marine, you'll get there!!

As Promised....did you doubt? ....I am watching.

 

I have an issue with the wording of goal #3.   For all your talk of positive focus your wording gives you away.

 

"Goal 3: Study for the ASVAB every other day: I am terrible at math and the other subjects I'm not any better, I refuse to go into the Marines as a dunce! (Con. +3)"

 

The correct wording would be along the lines of "I am not where I want to be in math and the other subjects"  or "I need to focus on math and improve"  for this is the true state that you are in.  I challenge you to clean up your self talk.

 

As always, stated with love and concern for your well being.

 

I am very happy with the goals of praying and meditating, but you knew that.

Batman is the ultimate Badass! No powers and yet he gets the job done, better than some of the other superheroes in fact! I am with you there on the shudder, math and I don't have a good relationship but I'm going to change that.

I love MC! The one thing I don't like about the plank is that I have to stay still, MC kick my ass and work my entire body got love em! But I have never counted that way, only sets of two. Something else for tomorrow I guess!

Changed it! And your right, I think all my self talk comes from my mom's descriptions of me, she always told me it was embarrassing how terrible I was at math.

 

Glad your here helping me be a better person dude, you really help me out!

 

Today was o.k.. But I spent most of the day helping my sis make dinner. I did finish my meditation though!

 

Workout: A light jog of 1 mile to test my ankle, good news I'm good!

Burpee Ladder: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1  Totally forgot to put on my timer :nonchalance:

 

Breakfast: Black bean omelet  Lunch: Green smoothie and salad  Dinner: Crustless Chicken Pot pie

 

Weight training is tomorrow plus I'll be doing a HIIT for my running and it'll be 2.5 miles.

 

I have been wanting to spend my whole day playing outside with hiking, bar work, exploring with the dogs, etc. Get back to my wild side. Plus I'm tired of staying inside all day, so I won't be checking anything internet related including NF. Just until 6, even then I'll spend and hour and a half on Kahn Academy working on my math skills. The rest of the day will be cleaning, playing, and studying.

 

In order for all that to happen though I have to kick my ass and get up at 5. And not check my stats or e-mails on my phone when I wake up to :angry: This will be part of my meditation, and prayer goal, because I'll be doing a lot of that in order to not hit the internet button!

Goals are looking great, Lost. I am excited to see how you fare this challenge. I will be on here a lot helping the other people who are already keeping you accountable. You are off to a great start. 

 

I know how it is to view yourself through someone else's eyes. Don't let them dictate who you are, though. When you see the difference, you will feel even better about yourself. Keep rocking.
